Indirect fluorometric determination of diclofenac sodium.

A simple and easy method of analysis for diclofenac sodium is reported. A spectrofluorometric method for the microdetermination of diclofenac sodium has been developed through its reaction with cerium(IV) in an acidic solution and measurement of the fluorescence of the Ce(III) ions produced. Under the optimum experimental conditions for the oxidation reaction, 1.0 M H2SO4 with 90 min of heating time (100 degrees C), the range of application is 124.3-600 ng mL(-1) and the limit of detection is 72.7 ng mL(-1). The proposed method was applied to the determination of diclofenac sodium in pharmaceutical tablets. The results of the analysis show a good agreement with those obtained by the official USP 27 HPLC method.     

Limit cycles and Lie symmetries

Given a planar vector field U which generates the Lie symmetry of some other vector field X, we prove a new criterion to control the stability of the periodic orbits of U. The problem is linked to a classical problem proposed by A.T. Winfree in the seventies about the existence of isochrons of limit cycles (the question suggested by the study of biological clocks), already answered by Guckenheimer using a different terminology. We apply our criterion to give upper bounds of the number of limit cycles for some families of vector fields as well as to provide a class of vector fields with a prescribed number of hyperbolic limit cycles. Finally we show how this procedure solves the problem of the hyperbolicity of periodic orbits in problems where other criteria, like the classical one of the divergence, fail.     

Inclusive\bar K^{0*} (892) andK 0*(892) production on silicon by 200 GeVK − andπ −

The production of the neutralK ^? (892) resonances by 200 GeVK ^? andπ ^? has been studied over the kinematic range 0.0<x _f<1.0 andp _t ² <5.0 GeV². Longitudinal and transverse momentum distributions are presented. In addition the decay angular distributions inK ^? fragmentation to \(\bar K^{0*} \) have been investigated.     

A highly specific polyclonal antiserum to the environmental contaminant 1,1,1-trichloro-2,2-bis-(4-chlorophenyl)-ethane (p,p′-DDT)

A very selective polyclonal antiserum against 1,1,1-trichloro-2,2-bis-(4-chlorophenyl)-ethane (p,p′-DDT) was obtained by a careful choice of the haptenic structure (2,2-bis(4-chlorophenyl)-ethanol hemisuccinate). This hapten was conjugated to BSA to prepare the immunogen. The effects of different types of solid phases on the equilibrium reaction between the hapten on solid phase and the polyclonal antiserum were evaluated to obtain a fine tuning of the antiserum performances in terms of specificity for p,p′-DDT and sensitivity to low levels of this pesticide. The calibration curves obtained show that it is possible to set up a sensitive assay for p,p′-DDT, employing a p,p′-dichlorodiphenylacetic acid-based solid phase, with a detection limit of 0.12 ng/mL and a working range of about 0.21–40 ng/mL. Selectivity towards several p,p′-DDT-related substances was good (o,p-DDT 17%, p,p′-DDD 1.2% o,p-DDD 6.3%, p,p′-DDE 6.7%).     

Simultaneous determination of Cd(II), Cu(II) and Pb(II) in surface waters by solid phase extraction and flow injection analysis with spectrophotometric detection

A method for heavy metal monitoring using spectrophotometric detection is presented. Traces of Cu(II), Pb(II) and Cd(II) at the low microg l(-1) level can be determined simultaneously after both selective removal of metal interferences and preconcentration using 'extraction chromatographic resins'. Lewatit TP807'84, which contains di(2,4,4-trimethylpentyl)phosphinic acid as active component, was used as solid adsorbent. Two minicolumns containing this resin were used: one at pH 3.2 for the removal of interferences, such as Zn(II) and Fe(III), and the other at pH 5.5 for the selective preconcentration of the target analytes. Spectrophotometric determination used FIA methodology with sulfarsazene as chromogenic reagent and partial least-squares multivariate calibration. The method was successfully applied to the analysis of surface waters from the Llobregat river and ground water samples from wells in the Guadiamar basin. Accuracy, expressed in terms of recoveries, was in the range 80-120% and relative standard deviations were below 10%.     

Lifetimes of charged and neutralD mesons

We have measured the lifetimes of hadronically produced charged and neutralD mesons using silicon microstrip detectors and an active silicon target in the NA32 spectrometer at the CERN SPS. We obtainτ _D± = (10.9± _1.5 ^1.9 )·10^?13s andτ _D ^(?)10 = (4.2±0.5)·10^?13s based on 59 and 90 fully reconstructed decays respectively, giving a ratioτ _D±/τ _D ^(?)10 of 2.6 ±0.5.     

Automorphism groups of compact planar Klein surfaces

By a compact Klein surface X, we shall mean a compact surface together with a dianalytic structure on X [1]. A dianalytic homeomorphism of X onto itself will be called an automorphism of X, and we call the automorphism group of X, the full group of automorphisms of X.In this paper we calculate all groups that are the automorphism group of a compact planar Klein surface of algebraic genus p2. As a consequence of the equivalence between compact bordered Klein surfaces and real algebraic curves, we calculate all groups that are the automorphism group of an M-real algebraic curve. Some results on automorphism groups of Riemann surfaces of M-curves were obtained by Natanzon in [14].Partially supported by CAICYT (2280/83)     

S-Shaped composition dependence of excess thermodynamic quantities for cyclohexane mixtures with globular alkanes

Expansion coefficients , isothermal compressibilities, thermal pressure coefficients and heat capacities have been measured at 25°C for the cyclohexane+trans-decalin system. An S-shaped composition dependence, positivelnegative for highllow cyclohexane compositions is found for C _p ^E dV ^E /dT and the thermal expansion contribution to C _p ^E namely VT. The thermal motion contribution to C _p ^E , namely C _v is close to zero. The positive excursion of these mixing quantities at high cyclohexane content is anomalous. Correspondingly, the mixing quantity-VT deviates strongly in this region from the predicted equality with H ^E . The literature and this work show that all these excess quantities behave similarly for cyclohexane mixed with cyclooctane, methylcyclohexane and some highly branched alkanes. The unusual composition dependence of the thermodynamic quantities is consistent with order occurring when any large alkane molecule of globular shape is added to cyclohexane. This is speculatively associated with an interference by the globular alkane with the relatively free rotation of cyclohexane molecules.
