Gibbs sampling also known as Glauber dynamics is a popular technique for sampling high dimensional distributions defined on graphs. Of special interest is the behavior of Gibbs sampling on the Erd?s–Rényi random graph G(n, d/n), where each edge is chosen independently with probability d/n and d is fixed. While the average degree in G(n, d/n) is d(1?o(1)), it contains many nodes of degree of order (log n) / (log log n). The existence of nodes of almost logarithmic degrees implies that for many natural distributions defined on G(n, d/n) such as uniform coloring (with a constant number of colors) or the Ising model at any fixed inverse temperature β, the mixing time of Gibbs sampling is at least n 1+Ω(1 / log log n) with high probability. High degree nodes pose a technical challenge in proving polynomial time mixing of the dynamics for many models including coloring. Almost all known sufficient conditions in terms of number of colors needed for rapid mixing of Gibbs samplers are stated in terms of the maximum degree of the underlying graph. In this work we consider sampling q-colorings and show that for every d < ∞ there exists q(d) < ∞ such that for all qq(d) the mixing time of the Gibbs sampling on G(n, d/n) is polynomial in n with high probability. Our results are the first polynomial time mixing results proven for the coloring model on G(n, d/n) for d > 1 where the number of colors does not depend on n. They also provide a rare example where one can prove a polynomial time mixing of Gibbs sampler in a situation where the actual mixing time is slower than npolylog(n). In previous work we have shown that similar results hold for the ferromagnetic Ising model. However, the proof for the Ising model crucially relied on monotonicity arguments and the “Weitz tree”, both of which have no counterparts in the coloring setting. Our proof presented here exploits in novel ways the local treelike structure of Erd?s–Rényi random graphs, block dynamics, spatial decay properties and coupling arguments. Our results give the first polynomial-time algorithm to approximately sample colorings on G(n, d/n) with a constant number of colors. They extend to much more general families of graphs which are sparse in some average sense and to much more general interactions. In particular, they apply to any graph for which there exists an α > 0 such that every vertex v of the graph has a neighborhood N(v) of radius O(log n) in which the induced sub-graph is the union of a tree and at most O(1) edges and where each simple path Γ of length O(log n) satisfies ${\sum_{u \in \Gamma}\sum_{v \neq u}\alpha^{d(u,v)} = O({\rm log} n)}$ . The results also generalize to the hard-core model at low fugacity and to general models of soft constraints at high temperatures.  相似文献

Draw planes in ℝ3 that are orthogonal to the x axis, and intersect the x axis at the points of a Poisson process with intensity λ; similarly, draw planes orthogonal to the y and z axes using independent Poisson processes (with the same intensity). Taken together, these planes naturally define a randomly stretched rectangular lattice. Consider bond percolation on this lattice where each edge of length 𝓁 is open with probability e−𝓁, and these events are independent given the edge lengths. We show that this model exhibits a phase transition: for large enough λ there is an infinite open cluster a.s., and for small λ all open clusters are finite a.s. We prove this result using the method of paths with exponential intersection tails, which is not applicable in two dimensions. The question whether the analogous process in the plane exhibits a phase transition is open. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Random Struct. Alg., 16, 333–343, 2000  相似文献

A periodic tree Tn consists of full n-level copies of a finite tree T. The tree Tn is labeled by random bits. The root label is chosen randomly, and the probability of two adjacent vertices to have the same label is 1−ϵ. This model simulates noisy propagation of a bit from the root, and has significance both in communication theory and in biology. Our aim is to find an algorithm which decides for every set of values of the boundary bits of T, if the root is more probable to be 0 or 1. We want to use this algorithm recursively to reconstruct the value of the root of Tn with a probability bounded away from ½ for all n. In this paper we find for all T, the values of ϵ for which such a reconstruction is possible. We then compare the ϵ values for recursive and nonrecursive algorithms. Finally, we discuss some problems concerning generalizations of this model. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Random Struct. Alg., 13, 81–97, 1998  相似文献

We study a problem related to coin flipping, coding theory, and noise sensitivity. Consider a source of truly random bits x ∈ {0, 1}n, and k parties, who have noisy version of the source bits yi ∈ {0, 1}n, when for all i and j, it holds that P [y = xj] = 1 ? ?, independently for all i and j. That is, each party sees each bit correctly with probability 1 ? ?, and incorrectly (flipped) with probability ?, independently for all bits and all parties. The parties, who cannot communicate, wish to agree beforehand on balanced functions fi: {0, 1}n → {0, 1} such that P [f1(y1) = … = fk(yk)] is maximized. In other words, each party wants to toss a fair coin so that the probability that all parties have the same coin is maximized. The function fi may be thought of as an error correcting procedure for the source x. When k = 2,3, no error correction is possible, as the optimal protocol is given by fi(yi) = y. On the other hand, for large values of k, better protocols exist. We study general properties of the optimal protocols and the asymptotic behavior of the problem with respect to k, n, and ?. Our analysis uses tools from probability, discrete Fourier analysis, convexity, and discrete symmetrization. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Random Struct. Alg., 2005  相似文献

Gaussian noise stability results have recently played an important role in proving results in hardness of approximation in computer science and in the study of voting schemes in social choice. We prove a new Gaussian noise stability result generalizing an isoperimetric result by Borell on the heat kernel and derive as applications:

The Entropy/Influence conjecture, raised by Friedgut and Kalai (1996) [9], seeks to relate two different measures of concentration of the Fourier coefficients of a Boolean function. Roughly saying, it claims that if the Fourier spectrum is “smeared out”, then the Fourier coefficients are concentrated on “high” levels. In this note we generalize the conjecture to biased product measures on the discrete cube.  相似文献

We consider the Ising model with inverse temperature β and without external field on sequences of graphs G n which converge locally to the k-regular tree. We show that for such graphs the Ising measure locally weakly converges to the symmetric mixture of the Ising model with + boundary conditions and the ? boundary conditions on the k-regular tree with inverse temperature β. In the case where the graphs G n are expanders we derive a more detailed understanding by showing convergence of the Ising measure conditional on positive magnetization (sum of spins) to the + measure on the tree.  相似文献
