We consider the flow of a viscous incompressible fluid in a pipe when the boundary is a deformable shell of Naghdi type. We prove that the corresponding system of partial differential equations has a solution when the deformation of the shell is smooth and small enough. We apply the recently improved version of the 0–1 test for chaos to real experimental time series of laser droplet generation process. In particular two marginal regimes of dripping are considered: spontaneous and forced dripping. We report on two sensitive tests of lepton universality carried out by the 4 LEP experiments at the Z0 pole. From measurements of the τ polarization in e+ e?→τ + τ ?, the ratios of the vector and axial vector coupling constants of the electron and the tau lepton to the weak neutral current are obtained to beg v e /g a e =0.066±0.015 andg V τ /g A τ =0.070±0.009 respectively. A review is given of the StandardSU(5) supergravity model. This model has passed an important check regarding unification of the electro-weak and the strong couplings using high precision LEP data. The resonant Raman scattering of C60 crystallites is monitored as a function of excitation intensity at 514.5 nm. At low intensities, a strong line at 1468 cm–1 is observed. No feature at 1459 cm–1 is observable. With increasing intensities, the 1468 cm–1 line shifts continuously and reversibly to lower frequencies. The mode softening is nonlinearly dependent on the input intensity and is accompanied by a nonlinear increase in the Raman intensity. The spectral changes are discussed in terms of a nonlinear reduction in force constant and increase in bond polarisability as a result of an increased intermolecular delocalisation of the -electron cloud. The nonlinear changes are associated with the nonlinear luminescence and photoconductive response observed in fullerenes and are contrasted to the irreversible phototransformation recently discussed. 相似文献

The effects of six-channel compression and expansion amplification on the intelligibility of nonsense syllables embedded in speech spectrum noise were examined for four hearing-impaired subjects. For one condition (linear) the stimulus was given six-channel amplification with frequency shaping to suit the subject's hearing loss. The other condition (nonlinear) was the same except that low level inputs, to any given channel, received expansion amplification and high level inputs received compression. For each condition, each subject received the nonsense syllables at three different input levels, representing low, average, and high intensity speech. The results of this study, like those of most other studies of multichannel compression, are mainly negative. Nonlinear processing (mainly expansion) of low intensity speech resulted in a significant degradation of speech intelligibility for two subjects and in no improvement for the others. One subject showed a significant improvement in intelligibility for the nonlinearly processed average intensity speech and another subject showed significant improvement for the high intensity input (mainly compression). Clearly, nonlinear processing is beneficial for some subjects, under some listening conditions, but further research is needed to identify the relevent characteristics of such subjects. An acoustic analysis of selected items revealed that the failure of expansion to improve intelligibility was primarily due to the very low intensity consonants /e/ and /k/, in final position, being presented at an even lower intensity in the expansion condition than in the linear condition. Expansion may be worth further investigation with different parameters. Several other problems caused by the multichannel processing were also revealed. These included alteration of spectral shapes and band interaction effects. Ways of overcoming these problems, and of capitalizing on the likely advantages of multichannel amplification, are currently being investigated. 相似文献

The enhancement effect is consistently shown when simultaneously masked stimuli are preceded by the masker alone, with a reduction in the amount of masking relative to when that precursor is absent. One explanation for this effect proposed by Viemeister and Bacon [(1982). J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 71, 1502-1507] is the adaptation of inhibition, which predicts that an enhanced component (the "target") will be effectively more intense within the auditory system than one that has not been enhanced. Forward masking studies have indicated this effect of increased gain; however, other explanations of the enhancement effect have also been suggested. In order to provide an alternative measure of the amount of effective gain for an enhanced target, a subjective binaural centering task was used in which listeners matched the intensities of enhanced and unenhanced 2-kHz tones presented to opposite ears to produce a centered stimulus. The results showed that the enhancement effect produces an effective 4-5 dB increase in the level of the enhanced target. The enhancement effect was also measured using other enhancement paradigms which yielded similar results over a range of levels for the target, supporting an account based on adaptation of inhibition. 相似文献

Swift heavy-ion irradiation of elemental metal nanoparticles (NPs) embedded in amorphous SiO(2) induces a spherical to rodlike shape transformation with the direction of NP elongation aligned to that of the incident ion. Large, once-spherical NPs become progressively more rodlike while small NPs below a critical diameter do not elongate but dissolve in the matrix. We examine this shape transformation for ten metals under a common irradiation condition to achieve mechanistic insight into the transformation process. Subtle differences are apparent including the saturation of the elongated NP width at a minimum sustainable, metal-specific value. Elongated NPs of lesser width are unstable and subject to vaporization. Furthermore, we demonstrate the elongation process is governed by the formation of a molten ion-track in amorphous SiO(2) such that upon saturation the elongated NP width never exceeds the molten ion-track diameter. 相似文献
