Interactions between arc discharge single-walled carbon nanotubes within polymer composites have been well documented. Here hybrid systems of the conjugated organic polymer poly(p-phenylene vinylene-co-2,5-dioctyloxy-m-phenylene vinylene) (PmPV) and HiPco SWNTs are explored using UV/vis/NIR and Raman spectroscopy at 514.5 and 632.8 nm to determine specific interactions. An examination of the radial breathing modes at 514.5 nm shows similar tube diameters of 1.28 and 1.35 nm selected for both the arc discharge and HiPco composites. The corresponding G lines of both composites show no specific type of tubes being selected. At 514.5 nm, the G line of the HiPco composite (1% mass fraction) shows contributions from semiconducing and metallic tubes, and the arc discharge composite (1% mass fraction) is dominated by semiconducting nanotubes. At 632.8 nm, the G line of the HiPco composite (1% mass fraction) is dominated by semiconducting tubes, and the arc discharge composite (1% mass fraction) shows strong contributions from metallic tubes. This finding is a strong indication that the selection process is dependent on tube diameter rather than backbone structure. The solubility limits of both composites are determined by investigating the G lines of both composites and have been found to be greater than 1% mass fraction by weight for the arc discharge composite and greater than 0.1% mass fraction by weight for the HiPco composite.  相似文献

Professional development for teachers has become a key component for reform in teaching, learning, and curriculum change. This report describes a model of professional development designed to improve the skills and knowledge of teams of special education and regular education teachers in science, mathematics, and technology instruction. The comprehensive model included summer and academic year content and methodology-focused workshops and summer “practician” experiences. It was designed to link those factors impacting teacher practices and interventions with teachers' beliefs in instruction. The training component for teachers included opportunities for collaborative teaching, upgrading knowledge of math and science subject matter, and identifying, integrating, and practicing alternative approaches for teaching science and math that address the needs of special education students, with a focus on techniques for adapting instruction to specific disabilities. The program led to development of coping skills and persistence in the teaching of science and math for all students. As a result, strong efficacy expectations have been developed through repeated experiences of success with children in a classroom environment. Remaining issues still to be addressed include classroom management, teaching in a heterogeneous classroom, and further improvement of content expertise of teachers.  相似文献

We report octave-spanning super-continuum generation in a silica photonic crystal fiber (PCF) pumped by a compact, efficient, mode-locked all-normal dispersion Yb:fiber laser. The laser achieved 45% optical-to-optical efficiency by using an optimized resonator design, producing chirped 750 fs pulses with a repetition rate of 386 MHz and an average power of 605 mW. The chirped pulses were compressed to 110 fs with a loss of only 4% by using multiple reflections on a pair of Gires-Tournois interferometer mirrors, yielding an average power of up to 580 mW. The corresponding peak power was 13.7 kW and produced a super-continuum spectrum spanning from 696-1392 nm.  相似文献

Muon spin relaxation (μSR) data taken at LAMPF on ac-axis oriented fine powder sample of YBa2Cu3O7−δ (YBCO) embedded in epoxy are analyzed for relaxation rate anisotropy. Clear differences beyond simple magnetic field penetration depth anisotropy are observed forBc andB c. The low-temperature anisotropy ratio is consistent with oriented ceramic data. Small crystallite size and anisotropic flux pinning characteristics are suggested as the fundamental cause of the additional effects.  相似文献

The standard method of soft X‐ray beamline calibration at the N K‐edge uses the ν = 0 peak transition of gas‐phase N2. Interstitial N2 gas trapped or formed within widely available solid‐state ammonium‐ and amine‐containing salts can be used for this purpose, bypassing gas‐phase measurements. Evidence from non‐nitrogen‐containing compounds (KH2PO4) and from He‐purged ammonium salts suggest that production of N2 gas is through beam‐induced decomposition. Compounds with nitrate or nitrite as anions produce coincident features and are not suitable for this calibration method.  相似文献

A helical step‐ladder polyarylene incorporating chiral (R)‐2,2′‐dioctoxy‐1,1′‐binaphthyl units was synthesized for the first time. The first step involved the preparation of a precursor poly(arylene ketone) via a palladium‐mediated Suzuki‐type cross‐coupling reaction with the aid of microwave heating. Two polymer‐analog reaction steps, the reduction of the keto groups to tertiary alcohol functionalities and subsequent intramolecular Friedel–Crafts cyclization, gave a step‐ladder polymer ( 6 ) in good yields with reasonable mean average molecular weights greater than 13,000. The regioselective cyclization pattern in the α position of the naphthalene core was confirmed by a comparison of the NMR data of the polymer with those of the corresponding model ladder oligomers, 12 and 13 , and also a single‐crystal structure of 13 . The optical spectra of the oligomers and polymers indicated that there was little electronic interaction across the binaphthyl units. The circular dichroism spectrum of 6 exhibited a strong bisignate Cotton effect in the π–π* absorption region of the planar chromophores, which reflected the strong exciton coupling within the helical polymer chain. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of five cyano(arylcarbamoyl) phosphorus ylides 2 and five cyano(arylthiocarbamoyl) phosphorus ylides 3 are prepared and fully characterized. Pyrolytic reaction products of a representative example of each type obtained by flash vacuum pyrolysis technique show that they undergo thermal extrusion of Ph3PO or Ph3PS. Kinetic study of the gas‐phase pyrolysis of each ylide by static method shows that these reactions are unimolecular and first order with no significant substituent effect, but the thiocarbamoyl ylides 3 react 40–65 times more rapidly than their carbamoyl analogues 2 . © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. An explicit recurrence relation is derived for the matching polynomial of the general benzene chain Bn. A table is given for chains of length up to 6. Explicit formulae are then obtained for the first five coefficients of the matching polynomial of Bn. The object of this study was to compare the accuracy and validity of stereology as a method for determining whole temporal lobe volume with the more established technique of semi-automated thresholding and tracing. Ten, fixed, post-mortem human brains, were imaged using a three dimensional (3D) acquisition protocol. The volume of the left temporal lobe, dissected from each brain, was determined by fluid displacement. Each volume was compared to measurements obtained from magnetic resonance images (MRI) of the post-mortem brain using each of the two segmentation methods. Post-acquisition processing was performed using MEASURE software. Three investigators performed each measurement three times using each method, yielding a total of 180 measurements. Stereology took, on average, half the time of thresholding/tracing. Using a clinically acceptable variation for 95% of repeat measures; both intra-observer and inter-observer variation were acceptable for each technique. However, validity, as demonstrated by graphs of agreement against water displacement showed that the "limits of agreement" using stereology were within the acceptable range, while those using the thresholding/tracing technique were not. Quantitative estimates of variation and a graphical representation of the limits of agreement show that stereology is at least as precise as the thresholding/tracing method but is superior in terms of speed and validity. This has broad implications for published estimates of brain region volumes in human diseases such as epilepsy, dementia and other neurodegenerative disorders.  相似文献
