Viscous effects in liquid encapsulated liquid bridges 总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
An analytical derivation of the surface deflections and the streamfunctions for the flow inside a liquid encapsulated liquid bridge has been derived using an asymptotic expansion about a small capillary number. The model assumes an initially flat and cylindrical interface under the assumption that the densities of both fluids are equal. To simplify the analysis, the top and bottom walls are assumed to be stress-free and the Reynolds number is assumed to be negligible. Flow is generated either by a moving outer wall (shear-driven flow) or by applying a temperature difference across the top and bottom walls (Marangoni-driven flow). The resulting equations show that for the shear-driven flow, as the viscosity ratio increases, the surface deflections increase monotonically. For the Marangoni-driven flow there exist values of the viscosity ratio where the surface deflections reach a minimum and then switch signs. This investigation shows that it may be possible in more realistic systems to use an outer encapsulating liquid of the proper viscosity ratio to stabilize the liquid–liquid interface during float zone crystal growth. 相似文献

Constructing flow-through reactors for chemiluminescence detection by machining channels into polymer disks has enabled the exploration of new configurations and materials that can improve signal intensity beyond that attainable with the traditional coiled-tubing design. Several approaches to merge reactant solutions were examined: an intersection, chamber or deeper well in the centre of a serpentine configuration flow-cell (directly in front of a photomultiplier tube), or a confluence point outside the detection zone. For several analytically useful, rapid chemiluminescence reactions, the single-inlet flow-cell with external Y-piece was most suitable, but for others (such as KMnO(4)/Mn(II) with morphine, and [Ir(f-ppy)(2)BPS](-) with fluoroquinolones) the dual-inlet configuration provided greater signals. The introduction of central mixing zones with larger widths than the channel reduced the chemiluminescence response. The reversing turns of a serpentine channel promote efficient mixing and greater chemiluminescence intensities than a spiral channel, but increasing the sharpness of the turns created areas of poor solution flow and decreased the chemiluminescence response. Teflon disks impregnated with glass microspheres increased the chemiluminescence signals by 13%-17%, due to the greater reflection of stray light towards the photodetector. 相似文献

The structural, electrical and optical properties of the phase change alloy AgSbSe2 were investigated and compared with its Te-based counterpart AgSbTe2. A huge electrical resistance change of more than four orders of magnitude is probed during the amorphous-to-crystalline
transition, accompanied with high optical contrast and small volume change. Furthermore, recrystallization can be realized
within 10 ns, which could be correlated with the observed low transition temperature and the simple NaCl-type crystalline
structure. These properties indicate that Se-based alloys might be suitable materials for phase change recording, replacing
Te based alloys.

A detailed study of the critical behaviour of the Ising model in 1+1 and 2+1 dimensions is made using an approximate real space renormalization transformation which involves block spins. The critical indices α, β, η, and ν are calculated and compared with previous results, as is the critical couplingy c. Microscopic (p,p′) calculations and polarization charges with large basis shell-model wave functions
Techniques have been developed for performing microscopic model DWBA calculations of inelastic nucleon-nucleus scattering using large basis shell-model wave functions to describe the nuclear states involved. For the case of 138Ba at a bombarding energy of 30 MeV, we obtain good fits to the data by including the exchange amplitude in the DWBA and assuming a state and multipole independent polarization charge. 相似文献

An automatic injection system for the analysis of gas phase smoke has been designed and evaluated using the microprocessor-controlled Hewlett-Packard 5830 gas chromatograph. The cryogenic preconcentration trap was constructed from relatively inexpensive and readily available materials. It was determined that the use of the preconcentration trap, as opposed to condensing the smoke on the head of the cold (-50°C) chromatographic column, significantly enhanced the resolution of the more volatile gas phase components. Data are presented which illustrate the injection system characteristics. In addition, chromatograms of gas phase smoke are presented which demonstrate the effectiveness of this technique. 相似文献
