Associated consistency and values for TU games

In the framework of the solution theory for cooperative transferable utility games, Hamiache axiomatized the well-known Shapley value as the unique one-point solution verifying the inessential game property, continuity, and associated consistency. The purpose of this paper is to extend Hamiache’s axiomatization to the class of efficient, symmetric, and linear values, of which the Shapley value is the most important representative. For this enlarged class of values, explicit relationships to the Shapley value are exploited in order to axiomatize such values with reference to a slightly adapted inessential game property, continuity, and a similar associated consistency. The latter axiom requires that the solutions of the initial game and its associated game (with the same player set, but a different characteristic function) coincide.     

The Synthesis and Characterization of Some New Thioether-Imidazole Containing Ligands

Procedures are described involving a convenient condensation of 4(5)-hydroxymethylimidazole or 5-methyl-4-hydroxymethyliraidazole with several thiols. The main step, the condensation reaction in refluxing acetic acid, is essentially the same for all ligands.     

A note on the inclusion of the kernel in the core of the bilateral assignment game

Initial structure and growth dynamics of YBa(2)Cu(3)O(7-delta) during pulsed laser deposition

The initial heteroepitaxial growth of YBa{2}Cu{3}O{7-delta} films on SrTiO3(001) substrates during pulsed laser deposition shows a growth-mode transition and a change of growth unit. The growth starts with two blocks, each two-thirds the size of the complete unit cell. The first of these blocks grows in a step-flow fashion, whereas the second grows in the layer-by-layer mode. Subsequent deposition occurs layer-by-layer of complete unit cells. These results suggest that the surface diffusion in the heteroepitaxial case is strongly influenced by the competition with formation energies, which is important for the fabrication of heteroepitaxial devices on the unit cell scale.     

Chiral separation of amino-alcohols using extractant impregnated resins

The performance of extractant impregnated resin (EIR) technology for chiral separation of amino-alcohols has been investigated. Phenylglycinol was selected as an archetype model enantiomer and azophenolic crown ether was used as a versatile enantioselective extractant. 1-Phenyloctane was selected as a suitable solvent for this application because of its very low solubility in water. The extraction system was first evaluated by liquid-liquid equilibrium experiments. It was shown that crown ether dissolved in 1-phenyloctane has an intrinsic selectivity of 11.5. However, due to very low solubility of phenylglycinol in 1-phenyloctane, the overall capacity of the crown ether solution in 1-phenyloctane is limited. The extractant solution was immobilized in macroporous polypropylene particles. Competitive sorption isotherms were obtained from batch experiments and successfully described with a predictive model based on the complexation constants and partitioning ratios, either obtained from literature or from independent experiments. The equilibrium selectivity of these EIRs approaches the intrinsic selectivity for low phenylglycinol concentrations. The dynamic behaviour and stability of the system were examined in column experiments. Breakthrough profiles as well as the elution curves of the R enantiomer are less sharp than those of the S enantiomer proving that the R enantiomer is strongly retained on the column. Separation of phenylglycinol enantiomers is favoured by using lower feed flow rates. The column was regenerated by water with only atmospheric carbon dioxide dissolved which proved to be sufficient. After several cycles the breakthrough profiles remain unchanged suggesting that these EIRs will be sufficiently stable.

Novel integrated optic intensity modulator based on mode coupling

Abstract

The analysis, design, realization, and measurements of a novel intensity modulator are reported. The operating principle is based on mode coupling between a passive low-loss SiON waveguide and an electro-optic high-loss polymer waveguiding structure. Matching the waveguides is critical and results in severe demands for the technology. Extended simulations by the Coupled Mode Theory, the Leaky Wave Model, and Finite Difference Beam Propagation Method resulted in the design of several modulator structures. After realization, modulation could be demonstrated at 632 nm and at 1523 nm using lossy waveguiding modes and surface plasmon modes.     

Adsorption of [14C] phenytoin in a gas chromatographic system

The labelled drug [¹⁴C] phenytoin was injected into an all-glass chromatographic system to determine adsorption on various system parts. It appeared that 10 to 20% of the amount injected did not elute. Severity of adsorption as measured from lasting radioactivity was not anticipated from peak shape or calibration curves.
