The antimicrobial effects of the Mexican medicinal plants Guazuma ulmifolia, Justicia spicigera, Opuntia joconostle, O. leucotricha, Parkinsonia aculeata, Phoradendron longifolium, P. serotinum, Psittacanthus calyculatus, Tecoma stans and Teucrium cubense were tested against several human multi-drug resistant pathogens, including three Gram (+) and five Gram (-) bacterial species and three fungal species using the disk-diffusion assay. The cytotoxicity of plant extracts on human cancer cell lines and human normal non-cancerous cells was also evaluated using the MTT assay. Phoradendron longifolium, Teucrium cubense, Opuntia joconostle, Tecoma stans and Guazuma ulmifolia showed potent antimicrobial effects against at least one multidrug-resistant microorganism (inhibition zone > 15 mm). Only Justicia spicigera and Phoradendron serotinum extracts exerted active cytotoxic effects on human breast cancer cells (IC50 < or = 30 microg/mL). The results showed that Guazuma ulmifolia produced potent antimicrobial effects against Candida albicans and Acinetobacter lwoffii, whereas Justicia spicigera and Phoradendron serotinum exerted the highest toxic effects on MCF-7 and HeLa, respectively, which are human cancer cell lines. This work summarizes the manufacturing procedure of Horseradish peroxidase (HRP) based biosensors for the determination of the mycotoxin Ochratoxin A (OTA). The biosensors have been fabricated using the single technology of screen-printing. That is to say, an HRP containing ink has been directly screen-printed onto carbon electrodes, which offers a higher rapidity and simplicity in the manufacturing process of biosensors for OTA determination. The formal redox potential of the Fe(III/II) moiety of HRP has been used to demonstrate the effective loading of enzyme into the ink. The chronoamperometric oxidation current registered has been successfully related to the concentration of OTA in solution from different samples, including beer ones. Under the optimum conditions of the experimental variables, precision in terms of reproducibility and repeatability has been calculated in the concentration range from 23.85 to 203.28 nM. A relative standard deviation for the slopes of 10% (n = 4) was obtained for reproducibility. In the case of repeatability, the biosensor retained a 30% of the initial sensitivity after the third calibration. The average capability of detection for 0.05% probabilities of false positive and negative was 26.77 ± 3.61 nM (α = 0.05 and β = 0.05, n = 3). 相似文献

We initiate a parameterized complexity study of the NP-hard problem to tile a positive integer matrix with rectangles, keeping the number of tiles and their maximum weight small. We show that the problem remains NP-hard even for binary matrices only using 1×1 and 2×2-squares as tiles and provide insight into the influence of naturally occurring parameters on the problem’s complexity. 相似文献

We calculate numerically the localization length critical index within the Chalker-Coddington model of the plateau-plateau transitions in the quantum Hall effect. We report a finite-size scaling analysis using both the traditional power-law corrections to the scaling function and the inverse logarithmic ones, which provided a more stable fit resulting in the localization length critical index ν = 2.616 ± 0.014. We observe an increase of the critical exponent ν with the system size, which is possibly the origin of discrepancies with early results obtained for smaller systems. 相似文献

Using Brownian dynamics simulations, density functional theory, and analytical perturbation theory we study the collapse of a patch of interfacially trapped, micrometer-sized colloidal particles, driven by long-ranged capillary attraction. This attraction is formally analogous to two-dimensional (2D) screened Newtonian gravity with the capillary length λ as the screening length. Whereas the limit λ→∞ corresponds to the global collapse of a self-gravitating fluid, for finite λ[over ^] we predict theoretically and observe in simulations a ringlike density peak at the outer rim of a disclike patch, moving as an inbound shock wave. We report on the experimental observation of speckle formation from a transparent crystal formed by a random distribution of nonlinear domains. The angular distribution of second-harmonic light generated by a transparent strontium barium niobate crystal is measured for different diameters of the fundamental beam and crystal thicknesses. Distinct manifestations of speckle pattern formation are found in these experiments. By using a theoretical Green's function formalism, we explain the reported observations as a result of the linear interference among the second-harmonic waves generated in all directions by each of the nonlinear domains forming the nonlinear crystal. 相似文献

Two different types of calcium fluoride (CaF2) particles were incorporated into a poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) matrix, fine particles (~350 nm), and nanoparticles (~70 nm). Both of them were synthesized by a chemical precipitation method using triethanolamine (TEA) as stabilizer. To obtain the nanoparticles, a greater amount of TEA was added during the synthesis in order to limit their growth. Therefore, unlike the fine particles, nanoparticles contained a greater amount of the stabilizer. Once CaF2 particles were obtained, the composite materials were prepared by melt-blending PET and particles at different filler loadings. The influence of both kinds of particles on the non-isothermal crystallization behavior of PET was investigated by using differential scanning calorimetry and field emission scanning electron microscopy. The Jeziorny-modified Avrami equation was applied to describe the kinetics of the non-isothermal crystallization, and several parameters were analyzed (half-crystallization time, Avrami exponent, and rate constant). According to the results, it is clear that CaF2 particles act as nucleating agents, accelerating the crystallization rate of PET. However, the effect on the crystallization rate was more noticeable with the addition of the fine particles where the surface plays an important role for epitaxial crystallization, while the addition of the nanoparticles with an organic surface coating resulted in a crystallization behavior similar to the observed for PET. 相似文献

Ideologies use for their conservation and propagation persuasive methods of communication: rhetoric. Rhetoric is analyzed from the semiotic and logical‐mathematical points of view. The following hypotheses are established: (1) language L is a self‐explanatory system, mediated by a successive series of systems of cultural conventions, (2) connotative significances of an ideological advertising rhetoric must be known, and (3) the notion of ideological information is a neutral notion that does not imply the valuation of ideology or its conditions of veracity or falsification. Rhetorical figures like metonymy, metaphor, parable analogy, and allegory are defined as relations. Metaphor and parable are order relations. The gas‐phase elimination kinetics of selected ethyl esters of 2‐oxo‐carboxylic acid have been studied over the temperature range of 270–415 °C and pressures of 37–114 Torr. The reactions are homogeneous, unimolecular, and follow a first‐order rate law in a seasoned static reaction vessel, with an added free radical suppressor toluene.
