The purpose of this paper is to seek utility functions satisfying a weak condition which guarantees that the utility optimum always belongs to the compromise set. This set is a special subset of the attainable or feasible set, which is generated through the application of the well-known operational research approach called compromise programming. It is shown that there are large families of utility functions satisfying this condition, thus reinforcing the value of compromise programming as a good surrogate of the traditional utility optimum.Thanks are due to the reviewers for their helpful suggestions. The environmental contamination of transuranics following the Palomares accident in 1966 (Southern Spain) has been continuous monitored on land and scientific programs are still running. The study of the land to sea transfer of the contamination started in 1986, focussed on the depositional history recorded in marine sediments. At the continental shelf, south of the mouth of the Almanzora river, enhanced levels of plutonium and americium were found which could be related to the accident. Additional analysis of marine sediments, collected far from the impact point, showed the presence of a hot particle. The study of the chronology of this sediment core and the isotopic ratios are given in this paper to assess the origin and pathway of the particle. The route of this particle was found to be the aerial transfer at the time of the accident. 相似文献

The work described here concerns a challenge of general interest in supramolecular chemistry: the achievement of chiral helical organizations with controlled structures. This work provides a strategy to obtain supramolecular polymers in which a chiral helical conformation has been induced by a noncovalent association, that is, through hydrogen bonding. Polycatenar 2,4,6-triarylamino-1,3,5-triazines, which organize into columnar mesophases and are susceptible to H-bonding interactions, were chosen as a starting point to build up the chiral supramolecular structure. The stacking of these mesogens has been forced to wind in a helical way by means of H-bond association with (R)-3-methyladipic acid, within the mesophase. The optically active columnar organization has been studied in depth by optical microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray diffraction, and circular dichroism. Formation of stable complexes between the triazine units and (R)-3-methyladipic acid has also been investigated by means of NMR diffusion-ordered spectroscopy (DOSY) experiments in chloroform. 相似文献

The physical and chemical factors that allow DNA to perform its functions in the cell have been studied for several decades. Recent advances in the synthesis and manipulation of DNA have allowed this field to move ahead especially rapidly during the past fifteen years. One of the most common chemical approaches to the study of interactions involving DNA has been the use of DNA base analogues in which functional groups are added, deleted, blocked, or rearranged. Here we describe a different strategy, in which the polar natural DNA bases are replaced by nonpolar aromatic molecules of the same size and shape. This allows the evaluation of polar interactions (such as hydrogen bonding) with little or no interference from steric effects. We have used these nonpolar nucleoside isosteres as probes of noncovalent interactions such as DNA base pairing and protein - DNA recognition. We have found that, while base-pairing selectivity does depend on Watson - Crick hydrogen bonding in the natural pairs, it is possible to design new bases that pair selectively and stably in the absence of hydrogen bonds. In addition, studies have been carried out with DNA polymerase enzymes to investigate the importance of Watson - Crick hydrogen bonding in enzymatic DNA replication. Surprisingly, this hydrogen bonding is not necessary for efficient enzymatic synthesis of a base pair, and significant levels of selectivity can arise from steric effects alone. These results may have significant impact both on the study of basic biomolecular interactions and in the design of new, functionally active biomolecules. 相似文献

A method suitable for the determination of eight biogenic amines (histamine, tyramine, phenylethylamine, tryptamine, cadaverine, putrescine, spermidine and spermine) in wines has been developed. The method involves derivatization of the amines by treatment with dabsyl chloride, after which the derivates were analysed by reversed-phase liquid chromatography with gradient elution and spectrophotometric detection at 446 nm. Different variables affecting separation were optimized. Validation of the method included calibration experiments, the addition of standards amines for the determination of recovery and repeatability tests. Good linearity of the responses was obtained up to 500 microg l(-1), except for putrescine (up to 2100 microg l(-1)). The detection limits ranged between 10 and 60 microg l(-1) for standard solutions. The method was successfully applied to the analysis of five Spanish wines. 相似文献

Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), supported by hot stage microscopy, IR spectroscopy and X-ray powder diffractometry,
was used to investigate the characteristics of the solid phases of mefenamic, niflumic, and flufenamic acids and of paracetamol,
before and after equilibration with saturated solutions in different solvents. Mixtures of Lewis base (dioxane and ethyl acetate)
and amphiprotic solvents (ethanol and water) were prepared for evaluating the influence of both nature and polarity of the
solvents. Solid-state analysis performed on the original samples (commercial products) made it possible to establish that
paracetamol, mefenamic acid and flufenamic acid were in their respective Form I. No polymorphic modifications are known for
niflumic acid. Paracetamol, niflumic and mefenamic acids did not show any change after equilibration with the various solvents
or solvent mixtures, regardless of their different chemical nature. In contrast, DSC, IR and X-ray analyses revealed the partial
recrystallization of flufenamic acid into its polymorphic Form III in solid phases at equilibrium with ethanol, ethyl acetate
and their blends, as well as in dioxane-water mixtures containing 30 to 100% dioxane and in ethanol-water mixtures with a
water content less than 50%.
