The Extensions of the Generalized Quadrangle of Order (3, 9)

It is shown that there is only one extension of GQ(3, 9) namely the one admitting the sporadic simple groupMcLas a flag-transitive automorphism group. The proof depends on a computer calculation.     

Open bosonic string amplitudes

The theory of the partially U (1) compactified scalar massless field on the domain on the compact Riemann surface with Nambu-Goto action is defined. The partition function is determined completely by a choice of the finite-dimensional approximations. The correlation functions are the correctly defined objects of the theory. The averages of the correlation function asymptotic values provide the amplitudes. Ising model on the generalized Bruhat-Tits tree

The partition function and the correlation functions of the Ising model on the generalized Bruhat-Tits tree are calculated. We computed also the averages of these correlation functions when the corresponding vertices are attached to the boundary of the generalized Bruhat-Tits tree.     

A one-step synthesis of a poly(iptycene) through an unusual Diels-Alder cyclization/dechlorination of tetrachloropentacene

We have discovered the first reaction of a substituted pentacene molecule as a dienophile. A surprisingly clean Diels-Alder self-coupling of Cl4Pn leads to a novel ladder polymer, poly(iptycene), which can be converted to a conducting carbon at relatively low temperature (600-900 degrees C). Theoretical calculations of the former reaction suggest a biradical asymmetric mechanism, despite highly symmetric reactants.

Glaser Coupling of Substituted Anthracene Diynes on a Non-metallic Surface at the Vapor-Solid Interface

The direct polymerization via irreversible C-C coupling on inert substrates will give access to new low-dimensional advanced functional materials and simplify their industrial fabrication. In this work, we present our initial results in the application of Glaser coupling to the direct on-surface polymerization of a model diacetylene compound at the solid-vapor interface. The self-assembly of the monomer and polymerization products was characterized using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). In addition, selected optical properties and the electronic structure of all compounds were investigated.     

Molecular assembly of rubrene on a metal/metal oxide nanotemplate

We investigated the adsorption properties and self-assembly of rubrene molecules on the copper oxide nanotemplate formed by high-temperature exposure of Cu(110) to molecular oxygen. Using high-resolution scanning tunneling microscopy under ultrahigh-vacuum conditions, we observed a complex variety of self-assembled motifs, driven by competing effects such as the chemical affinity between the organic molecule and the surface, surface coverage, and spatial confinement of the rubrene molecules within the rows of the template.
