We describe full multiple-scattering calculations of localized surface photonic states set up by lithographically designed nanostructures made of a finite number of dielectric pads deposited on a planar surface. The method is based on a numerical solution of the dyadic Dyson's equation. When the pads are arranged to form a closed circle, we find field patterns that look like the electronic charge density recently observed above quantum corrals. We propose two experimental techniques that could be used to observe these electromagnetic modes in direct space. 相似文献

This paper reports the experimental observation, at optical frequencies, of the electromagnetic local density of states established by nanostructures corresponding to the recently introduced concept of optical corral [G. Colas des Francs et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 86, 4950 (2001)]. The images obtained by a scanning near-field optical microscope under specific operational conditions are found in agreement with the theoretical maps of the optical local density of states. A clear functionality of detection by the scanning near-field optical microscope is thereby identified since the theoretical maps are computed without including any specific tip model. 相似文献

Hydrogenation of the vanadyloctaethylporphyrin VO(OEP), is a reversible reaction which may occur without a catalyst. The thermodynamic data have been deduced from experiments performed in a batch reactor. Both Ho and So are positive; this can be explained by the aromatic character of chlorin, the reaction product. From a kinetic point of view, the rate order relative to H2 is equal to one.

The 2-pyridinecarbaldehyde isonicotinoyl hydrazone (HPCIH) family of ligands are typically tridentate N,N,O chelators that exhibit very high in vitro activity in mobilizing intracellular Fe and are promising candidates for the treatment of Fe overload diseases. Complexation of ferrous perchlorate with HPCIH in MeCN solution gives the expected six-coordinate complex Fe(II)(PCIH)(2). However, complexation of Fe(II) with 2-pyridinecarbaldehyde picolinoyl hydrazone (HPCPH, an isomer of HPCIH) under the same conditions leads to spontaneous assembly of an unprecedented asymmetric, mixed-ligand dinuclear triple helical complex Fe(II)(2)(PCPH)(2)(PPH), where PPH(2-) is the dianion of bis(picolinoyl)hydrazine. The X-ray crystal structure of this complex shows that each ligand binds simultaneously to both metal centres in a bidentate fashion. The dinuclear complex exhibits two well separated and totally reversible Fe(III/II) redox couples as shown by cyclic voltammetry in MeCN solution. 相似文献

The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) is involved in the dissemination of nationally traceable standards to which measurements
of air quality, occupational exposure and air pollution source emissions, and natural gas analyses, can be referenced. This
has required the development of national primary gas standards using absolute gravimetric and other techniques, and the development
of dynamic calibration techniques for gaseous species which would be unstable in high-pressure cylinders. The methodology
used for preparing gas standards gravimetrically is described, together with the rigorous quality assurance measurements and
consistency checks which are used to demonstrate their accuracy and stability. The uncertainty budget assigned to these standards
will also be summarised. NPL primary standards are used to certify traceable 'secondary' gas standards which are disseminated
so as to ensure the accuracy of gas analysis measurements. Examples of the applications of these secondary standards are presented.
The gas standards are employed in proficiency testing of industrial stack-testing organisations, and results of the initial
rounds are presented. NPL gas standards are also now being used as the basis of the United Kingdom Environment Agency's new
type-approval and certification scheme for continuous industrial stack-emission analysers. A recent important international
initiative, in the field of gas analyses, is the agreement by national standards laboratories across the world to demonstrate
the equivalence of their calibrations, by means of key comparisons between them. These worldwide key comparisons are complemented
in Europe through the EUROMET initiative which seeks to establish the equivalence and comparability of calibration standards
held at national standards laboratories across Europe. Examples of these intercomparisons are presented.

The X‐ray crystal structures are reported of four novel and potentially O,N,S‐tridentate donor ligands that demonstrate antitumour activity. These ligands are 1‐[(4‐methylthiosemicarbazono)methyl]‐2‐naphthol, C13H13N3OS, (III), 1‐[(4‐ethylthiosemicarbazono)methyl]‐2‐naphthol, C14H15N3OS, (IV), 1‐[(4‐phenylthiosemicarbazono)methyl]‐2‐naphthol, C18H15N3OS, (V), and 1‐[(4,4‐dimethylthiosemicarbazono)methyl]‐2‐naphthol dimethyl sulfoxide solvate, C14H15N3OS·C2H6OS, (VI). These chelators are N4‐substituted thiosemicarbazones, each based on the same parent aldehyde, namely 2‐zhydroxynaphthalene‐1‐carboxaldehyde isonicotinoylhydrazone. Conformational variations within this series are discussed in relation to the optimum conformation for metal‐ion binding. 相似文献
