Stoichiometric copper(I) selenide nanoparticles have been synthesized using the hot injection method. The effects of air exposure on the surface composition, crystal structure, and electronic properties were monitored using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and conductivity measurements. The current-voltage response changes from semiconducting to ohmic, and within a week a 3000-fold increase in conductivity is observed under ambient conditions. The enhanced electronic properties can be explained by the oxidation of Cu(+) and Se(2-) on the nanoparticle surface, ultimately leading to a solid-state conversion of the core from monoclinic Cu(2)Se to cubic Cu(1.8)Se. This behavior is a result of the facile solid-state ionic conductivity of cationic Cu within the crystal and the high susceptibility of the nanoparticle surface to oxidation. This regulated transformation is appealing as one could envision using layers of Cu(2)Se nanoparticles as both semiconducting and conducting domains in optoelectronic devices simply by tuning the electronic properties for each layer through controlled oxidation. 相似文献

This paper reports that gas bubbles can be used to tailor the kinetics of the nucleation and growth of inorganic-nanocrystals in a colloidal synthesis. We conducted a mechanistic study of the synthesis of colloidal iron oxide nanocrystals using gas bubbles generated by boiling solvents or artificial Ar bubbling. We identified that bubbling effects take place through absorbing local latent heat released from the exothermic reactions involved in the nucleation and growth of iron oxide nanocrystals. Our results show that gas bubbles display a stronger effect on the nucleation of iron oxide nanocrystals than on their growth. These results indicate that the nucleation and growth of iron oxide nanocrystals may rely on different types of chemical reactions between the iron-oleate decomposition products: the nucleation relies on the strongly exothermic, multiple-bond formation reactions, whereas the growth of iron oxide nanocrystals may primarily depend upon single-bond formation reactions. The identification of exothermic reactions is further consistent with our results in the synthesis of iron oxide nanocrystals with boiling solvents at reaction temperatures ranging from 290 to 365 °C, by which we determined the reaction enthalpy in the nucleation of iron oxide nanocrystals to be -142 ± 12 kJ/mol. Moreover, our results suggest that a prerequisite for effectively suppressing secondary nucleation in a colloidal synthesis is that the primary nucleation must produce a critical amount of nuclei, and this finding is important for a priori design of colloidal synthesis of monodispersed nanocrystals in general. 相似文献

The reaction of Ni(COD)(2) with two equivalents of the TEMPO radical at 68 °C affords the 16 e(-) "bow-tie" complex Ni(η(2)-TEMPO)(2), 1, in 78% yield. Compound 1 reacts with tert-butyl isocyanide and phenylacetylene at room temperature to yield the 16 e(-) distorted square planar nickel complexes Ni(η(2)-TEMPO)(η(1)-TEMPO)(CN(t)Bu), 2, and Ni(η(2)-TEMPO)(η(1)-TEMPOH)(CCPh), 4, respectively. The facile reactivity of 1 is aided by the transition of the TEMPO ligand from an η(2) to η(1) binding mode. We incorporate ion polarizabilities into the Poisson-Boltzmann equation by modifying the effective dielectric constant and the Boltzmann distribution of ions. The extent of the polarizability effects is controlled by two parameters, γ(1) and γ(2); γ(1) determines the polarization effects in a dilute system and γ(2) regulates the dependence of the polarizability effects on the concentration of ions. For a polarizable ion in an aqueous solution γ(1) ≈ 0.01 and the polarizability effects are negligible. The oxidation of water catalyzed by [Ru(tpy)(bpy)(OH(2))](ClO(4))(2) (1; tpy = 2,2';6',2'-terpyridine; bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine) is evaluated in different acidic media at variable oxidant concentrations. The observed rate of dioxygen evolution catalyzed by 1 is found to be highly dependent on pH and the identity of the acid; e.g., d[O(2)]/dt is progressively faster in H(2)SO(4), CF(3)SO(3)H (HOTf), HClO(4), and HNO(3), respectively. This trend does not track with thermodynamic driving force of the electron-transfer reactions between the terminal oxidant, (NH(4))(2)[Ce(NO(3))(6)] (CAN), and Ru catalyst in each of the acids. The particularly high reactivity in HNO(3) is attributed to the NO(3)(-) anion: (i) enabling relatively fast electron-transfer steps; (ii) participating in a base-assisted concerted atom-proton transfer process that circumvents the formation of high energy intermediates during the O-O bond formation process; and (iii) accelerating the liberation of dioxygen from the catalyst. Consequently, the position of the rate-determining step within the catalytic cycle can be affected by the acid medium. These factors collectively contribute to the position of the rate-determining step within the catalytic cycle being affected by the acid medium. This offering also outlines how other experimental issues (e.g., spontaneous decay of the Ce(IV) species in acidic media; CAN/catalyst molar ratio; types of catalytic probes) can affect the Ce(IV)-driven oxidation of water catalyzed by homogeneous molecular complexes. 相似文献

Acid-catalyzed dehydrations of substituted naphthalene-cis-1,2-dihydrodiols occur with loss of the 1- or 2-OH group to form 2- and 1-naphthols, respectively. Effects of substituents MeO, Me, H, F, Br, I, and CN at 3-, 6-, and 7-positions of the naphthalene ring are consistent with rate-determining formation of β-hydroxynaphthalenium ion (carbocation) intermediates. For reaction of the 1-hydroxyl group the 3-substituents are correlated by the Yukawa-Tsuno relationship with ρ = -4.7 and r = 0.25 or by σ(p) constants with ρ = -4.25; for reaction of the 2-hydroxyl group the 3-substituents are correlated by σ(m) constants with ρ = -8.1. The correlations for the 1-hydroxyl imply a surprisingly weak resonance interaction of +M substituents (MeO, Me) with a carbocation reaction center but are consistent with the corresponding correlation for acid-catalyzed dehydration of 3-substituted benzene-cis-1,2-dihydrodiols for which ρ = -6.9 and r = 0.43. Substituents at the 6- and 7-positions of the naphthalene rings by contrast are correlated by σ(+) with ρ = -3.2 for reaction of the 1-hydroxyl group and ρ = -2.7 for reaction of the 2-hydroxyl group. The unimpaired resonance implied by these substituent effects appears to be inconsistent with a previous explanation of the weak resonance of the 3-substituents in terms of imbalance of charge development and/or nonplanarity of the benzenium ring in the transition state. An alternative possibility is that the adjacent hydroxyl group interferes sterically with conjugation of +M substituents. "Hyperaromaticity" of the arenium ion intermediates does not appear to be a factor influencing this behavior. 相似文献

This is the first comprehensive HX-MS study of a "robust" 2-Cys peroxiredoxin (Prx), namely Salmonella typhimurium AhpC (StAhpC). Prx proteins control intracellular peroxide levels and are abundant antioxidant proteins in eukaryotes, archaea and bacteria. Crystal structural analyses and structure/activity studies of several bacterial and mammalian 2-Cys Prxs have revealed that the activity of 2-Cys Prxs is regulated by redox-dependent oligmerization and a sensitivity of the active site cysteine residue to overoxidation. The propensity to overoxidation is linked to the conformational flexibility of the peroxidatic active site loop. The HX-MS results emphasize the modulation of the conformational motility of the active site loop by disulfide formation. To obtain information on the conformational impact of decamer formation on the active site loop motility, mutants with Thr77 substituted by Ile, a decamer-disrupting mutation or by Val, a decamer-stabilizing mutation, were studied. For the isoleucine mutant, enhanced mobility was observed for regions encompassing the α4 helix located in the dimer-dimer interface and regions surrounding the peroxidatic loop. In contrast, the T77V mutation resulted in an increase in conformational stability in most regions of the protein except for the active site loop and the region encompassing the resolving cysteine. 相似文献

Cellulose fibrils with widths in the nanometer range are nature-based materials with unique and potentially useful features. Most importantly, these novel nanocelluloses open up the strongly expanding fields of sustainable materials and nanocomposites, as well as medical and life-science devices, to the natural polymer cellulose. The nanodimensions of the structural elements result in a high surface area and hence the powerful interaction of these celluloses with surrounding species, such as water, organic and polymeric compounds, nanoparticles, and living cells. This Review assembles the current knowledge on the isolation of microfibrillated cellulose from wood and its application in nanocomposites; the preparation of nanocrystalline cellulose and its use as a reinforcing agent; and the biofabrication of bacterial nanocellulose, as well as its evaluation as a biomaterial for medical implants. 相似文献

A number of nickel based materials are investigated as potential oxygen evolution catalysts under conditions close to those met in modern, high current density alkaline water electrolysers. Microelectrodes are used to avoid distortion of voltammetric data by IR drop even at the high current densities employed in such water electrolysers. High surface area nickel metal oxides prepared by cathodic deposition and mixed oxides prepared by thermal methods are considered. A mixed Ni/Fe oxide is the preferred electrocatalyst. The influence of hydroxide ion concentration and temperature on the voltammetry is defined. Preliminary stability tests in a zero gap cell with an OH(-) conducting membrane show no significant increase in overpotential during 10 days operation in 4 M NaOH electrolyte at a current density of 1 A cm(-2) at 333 K. 相似文献
