The Second Noether Theorem in the formalism of jet-bundles: Symmetries and degeneration

By means of the jet-bundle formalism, the Second Noether Theorem is formulated for a general first-order Lagrangian field theory with infinitesimal local symmetries. These symmetries are implemented by a linear differential operator acting between the sections of a vector bundle and vector fields on the configuration bundle. The problem of the degeneration of the Lagrangian system is examined from a covariant and an instantaneous (i.e. space+time split) viewpoint. It is shown that in the instantaneous approach the presence of infinitesimal local symmetries leads to degeneration of the theory. Vertical local symmetries are shown to imply degeneration also in the covariant formalism. These results can be extended to higher-order Lagrangians as well.

利用三角形及其九点圆的摄像机标定

提出基于三角形及其九点圆的摄像机标定方法.利用了三角形九点圆中其九个点的特殊性,并且利用透视投影变换保二次曲线不变性,得到其像点在像平面共椭圆,从而可以通过九点的映射关系将透视投影变换的非线性问题线性化.图像分割和角点提取的误差会直接影响标定的精度,在此三角形及其九点圆中的点特别是算法中的关键点三角形顶点和垂心都是三条直线的交点,减小图像分割与提取时造成的误差.DLT方法的不精确就源于图像分割和角点提取的误差,方法克服了DLT方法的不足.张的方法无法保证单应性矩阵的正交性,因此为了保证正交性和提高精度需要优化.与传统方法相比操作简单,应用九点圆定理,仿射变换的引入将透视投影非线性问题线性化,避免了参数之间的非线性方程求解,降低了参数求解的复杂性,因此其定标过程快捷,准确.模板的构造,减少了图像分割和交点提取误差,算法实现保证旋转矩阵的正交性.综合上述分析,理论上表明方法的有效性.同时实验表明,标定方法操作简单,不需要计算机视觉的专业知识,快速,精度高,鲁棒性好.     

Laser pulse fluorometry as a tool in polymer research

A time-resolved fluorescence spectrometer with laser excitation and picosecond time-correlated single photon counting detection is described. The parameter recovery from experimental data is discussed in detail. Correction methods for errors in the time-correlated single photon counting technique are indicated. Applications of this photophysical tool to polymer research are given.     

Effect of Tomato Peel Extract Grown under Drought Stress Condition in a Sarcopenia Model

Tomatoes and their derivates represent an important source of natural biologically active components. The present study aims to investigate the protective effect of tomato peel extracts, grown in normal (RED-Ctr) or in drought stress (RED-Ds) conditions, on an experimental model of sarcopenia. The phenolic profile and total polyphenols content (TPC) of RED-Ctr and RED-Ds were determined by Ultra High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (UHPLC) analyses coupled to electrospray ionization high-resolution mass spectrometry (ESI-HR-MS). Human skeletal muscle myoblasts (HSMM) were differentiated in myotubes, and sarcopenia was induced by dexamethasone (DEXA) treatment. Differentiation and sarcopenia were evaluated by both real-time PCR and immunofluorescent techniques. Data show that myosin heavy chain 2 (MYH2), troponin T (TNNT1), and miogenin (MYOG) were expressed in differentiated myotubes. 5 μg Gallic Acid Equivalent (GAE/mL) of TPC from RED-Ds extract significantly reduced muscle atrophy induced by DEXA. Moreover, Forkhead BoxO1 (FOXO1) expression, involved in cell atrophy, was significantly decreased by RED-Ds extract. The protective effect of tomato peel extracts depended on their qualitative polyphenolic composition, resulting effectively in the in vitro model of sarcopenia.     

Bistability and explosive transients in surface reactions: the role of fluctuations and spatial correlations

We study the dynamics of a class of catalytic surface reactions in which an adsorbed molecule undergoes dissociation giving oxygen, which then rapidly reacts with H adatoms to give water. The reaction-diffusion equations predict bistability and explosive transients similar to those observed in several low-pressure experiments. Kinetic Monte Carlo simulations reveal however that the dynamics can be strongly affected by spontaneous, inhomogeneous fluctuations of composition on the surface. In particular, bifurcation points can be displaced and the explosive character of the transients can be lost, depending on a subtle balance between the rate of reaction and the mobility of the decomposing species. These effects can be quantified on the basis of a stochastic formulation of the dynamics taking into account spatial correlations. This approach allows to better delimit the applicability of the traditional reaction-diffusion modelling in the case of reactions such as the reduction of NO _x or SO _x species on catalytic surfaces.     

Performance studies of a full-length prototype for the CASTOR forward calorimeter at the CMS experiment

The Time-Of-Flight detector (TOF) of the ALICE experiment at the CERN LHC is based on Multi-gap Resistive Plate Chambers (MRPCs). The TOF detector consists of 152928 readout channels covering a total area of 141 m². In this paper the results of the calibration with cosmic-ray data collected during 2009 are presented.     

Testing metric-affine f(R)-gravity by relic scalar gravitational waves

We discuss the emergence of scalar gravitational waves in metric-affine f(R)-gravity. Such a component allows to discriminate between metric and metric-affine theories The intrinsic meaning of this result is that the geodesic structure of the theory can be discriminated. We extend the formalism of cross-correlation analysis, including the additional polarization mode, and calculate the detectable energy density of the spectrum for cosmological relic gravitons. The possible detection of the signal is discussed against the sensitivities of the VIRGO, LIGO and LISA interferometers.
