Improved dimensional stability of Nafion membrane modified using a layer by layer self-assembly of biophilic polymers

The modification of perfluorinated proton exchange membranes (e.g. Nafion) utilizing a layer by layer (LbL) electrostatic assembly of oppositely charged biophilic polymers such as poly-l-lysine as positive layer and dsDNA as a negative layer is developed to protect the interface between the catalyst layer and the membrane in a low temperature fuel cell. Various physicochemical measurements including water uptake, proton conductivity and surface tension were investigated for both the as-received Nafion and the biopolymeric LbL modified Nafion. The smaller water contact angle and the less swelling characteristics of the biopolymer modified Nafion membrane was founded compared to that of as-received Nafion. This clearly indicates that the more hydrophilic surface of biopolymeric layers on Nafion plays an important role in the enhanced dimensional stability. In addition, a potential hypothesis explaining the higher proton conductivity from the LbL biopolymeric film coated Nafion is suggested.     

Existence and uniqueness of solutions of reaction–convection equations with non-Lipschitz nonlinearity

In this work we study single balance law _ut+∇⋅Φ(u)=f(u)$u_t+\mathrm{\nabla }\cdot \Phi (u)=f(u)$ with bounded initial value, and find that there may exist maximal and minimal solutions, if f(u)$f(u)$ is not Lipschitz continuous at u=0$u=0$. We also show that comparison principle is valid for such solutions, and the solutions may blow up or not under certain conditions. It is determined by the strength of source supply, as well as the competition between the source and flux.     

An ε-Minimax Theorem for Bi-Lower-Semicontinuous Set-Valued Mappings

In this article, an approximate minimax theorem for bi-lower-semicontinuous set-valued mapping was proved, relationships between semicontinuous set-valued mappings are discussed and the existence of approximate maxmin was given. The minimax theorem in this article is the first minimax theorem that doesn’t require the set-valued mappings to be continuous.     

B0 ? ffB^0 \to \phi\phi decay in perturbative QCD approach

The rare decay can occur only via the penguin annihilation topology in the standard model. We calculate this channel in the perturbative QCD approach. The predicted branching ratio is very small: around 10^-8. We also give the polarization fractions, which show that the transverse polarization contribution is comparable to the longitudinal one, due to a big transverse contribution from factorizable diagrams. The small branching ratio in SM makes it sensitive to any new physics contributions.Received: 29 January 2005, Published online: 28 April 2005     

Influence of atomic densities on propagation property for ultrashort pulses in a two-level medium

The influence of atomic densities on the propagation property for ultrashort pulses in a two-level atom (TLA) medium is investigated. With higher atomic densities, the self-induced transparency (SIT) cannot be recovered even for 2π ultrashort pulses. New features such as pulse splitting, red-shift and blue-shift of the corresponding spectra arise, and the component of central frequency gradually disappears.     

Enhanced Karush–Kuhn–Tucker condition and weaker constraint qualifications

In this paper we study necessary optimality conditions for nonsmooth optimization problems with equality, inequality and abstract set constraints. We derive the enhanced Fritz John condition which contains some new information even in the smooth case than the classical enhanced Fritz John condition. From this enhanced Fritz John condition we derive the enhanced Karush–Kuhn–Tucker condition and introduce the associated pseudonormality and quasinormality condition. We prove that either pseudonormality or quasinormality with regularity on the constraint functions and the set constraint implies the existence of a local error bound. Finally we give a tighter upper estimate for the Fréchet subdifferential and the limiting subdifferential of the value function in terms of quasinormal multipliers which is usually a smaller set than the set of classical normal multipliers. In particular we show that the value function of a perturbed problem is Lipschitz continuous under the perturbed quasinormality condition which is much weaker than the classical normality condition.     

微波消解ICP-MS测定鲜竹笋中7种微量元素

建立同时检测鲜竹笋中铬、铜、锌、砷、镉、汞、铅等7种元素的分析方法。竹笋样品在硝酸介质中经微波消解,用电感耦合等离子体质谱(ICP-MS)检测,全定量法采集数据。校准曲线线性良好,相关系数在0.9937—1.0000之间;检出限为0.005—0.202μg/L;加标回收率在88.96%—110.5%;精密度RSD小于6.09%;国家标准样品西红柿叶(GSBZ51001-94)中几种元素的测定值都在标准范围内。该方法具有灵敏、可靠、快速、准确等优点,适用于竹笋中微量元素的分析测定。     

Nonlinear optical switching matrix

We show that nonlinear directional couplers with variable coupling coefficients can be used to compose a special kind of switching matrix. The switching matrix can be controlled by the signal itself or by a strong pump. Light routing is realized by adjustment of the power of the signal or the pump. Because light routing is based on the optical Kerr effect, ultrafast routing is possible.     

Hypersurfaces with isometric Reeb flow in complex hyperbolic two-plane Grassmannians

We classify the real hypersurfaces with isometric Reeb flow in complex hyperbolic two-plane Grassmannians _SU2,m/S(_U2⋅_Um)${\mathit{SU}}_{2,m}/S(U_2\cdot U_m)$, m?2$m?2$. Each can be described as a tube over a totally geodesic _SU2,m−1/S(_U2⋅_Um−1)${\mathit{SU}}_{2,m-1}/S(U_2\cdot U_{m-1})$ in _SU2,m/S(_U2⋅_Um)${\mathit{SU}}_{2,m}/S(U_2\cdot U_m)$ or a horosphere whose center at infinity is singular.     

Existence and attractivity of time periodic solutions for Nicholson's blowflies model with nonlinear diffusion

This paper is concerned with the existence and attractivity of time periodic solutions for one‐dimensional Nicholson's blowflies model with nonlinear diffusion. By constructing some suitable Lyapunov functionals and combining with Leray–Schauder fixed point theorem, we establish the existence of nonnegative time periodic solutions. Using the method of upper and lower solutions and its associated monotone iterations, we obtain the existence of the attractor for this model. Copyright © 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
