Equilibrium distributions of stochastic networks without detailed balance

We present results for the determination of the equilibrium microstate probability distribution of a class of strongly interacting systems obeying stochastic dynamics but without the necessity of detailed balance. The specific case of Ising systems is highlighted, with applications to non-symmetric synaptic neural networks and more general recurrent Boolean networks.     

Exact solutions of a nonlinear sigma-model in a curved space and the theory of magnetically ordered media with variable saturation magnetization

Stationary solitons are found to occur in two-dimensional media with a variable saturation magnetization whose square is a harmonic function of the coordinates. It is shown in this case that the Landau-Lifshits equation can be reduced to the integrable O(3) sigma-model in curved space. Some properties of the solutions obtained are discussed. A note on dephasing and pair-breaking

It is shown that the dephasing which suppresses the weak localization correction to the conductivity has the same physical origin than pair-breaking in superconductors and thus-following de Gennes-may be expressed in terms of the correlation function of the operator for time reversal.     

Unoccupied electronic states of epitaxial iron layers on Cu(100)

Inverse photoemission spectra were taken for thin epitaxial iron films on Cu(100). For a film thickness of eight monolayers the observed electronic states are characteristic for a fcc(100) surface. Thed-bands of iron show a ferromagnetic exchange splitting of 1.1 eV, considerably smaller than the bulk value of 1.8 eV, which we observe for film thicknesses above 18 monolayers.     

Input control in nonnegative matrix equations

In this paper we consider the nonnegative matrix system c_iA+u_iB=c_i+1 where the nonnegative matrix A is allowed to vary, within bounds. The cone control problem is to find a nonnegative matrix B such that if C_i is a nonnegative vector in a specified cone, then there is a nonnegative vector u_i such that c_i+1 is in that cone. We extend this problem to input control by finding a B such that the cone, generated by the rows of B, is as small as possible. Thus, the percent distribution of ∣u_iB∣ through the states of the sustem by u_iB is either constant or varies little.     

Phase diagram of multilayer magnetic structures

Multilayer ferromagnet-layered antiferromagnet (Fe/Cr) structures frustrated because of roughness of interlayer boundaries were studied by mathematical modeling methods. The phase diagram of a three-layer system (plotted as film thickness versus the degree of roughness of the interfaces) was obtained, and the order parameter distributions in each phase were determined. The character of phase transitions in this system was studied. The applicability range of the Slonczewski magnetic proximity model was determined.
