Insertion reactions of isocyanides with platinumcarbon σ-bonded complexes

[Pt(C₁₀H₁₂OCH₃)(PPh₃)Cl] reacts readily with isocyanides by displacement of the coordinated olefinic end of the organic moiety followed by insertion of the isocyanide into the metalcarbon σ-bond. The reaction between the methoxydienyl complex [Pt(C₁₀H₁₂OCH₃)Cl]₂ and cyclohexyl isocyanide involves chloride bridge-splitting to give [Pt(C₁₀H₁₂OCH₃)(C₆H₁₁NC)Cl], followed by olefin displacement and finally isocyanide insertion. The imino derivative produced in this latter reaction has a trans-isocyanide configuration.The chemical properties of these new isocyanide complexes are discussed in terms of relative trans influences, coordinating abilities, and electrophilic characters in comparison with the CO analogues.     

Trying to catch the elusive A and more. Reactions initiated by b-quarks and the Higgs sector of the MSSM

We study the cross sections for the production of neneural, intermediate mass Higgs boson in the process pp→ tq′φ, pp→tW⁻φ and pp→bZ⁰φ in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (φ = H⁰, h⁰ and A⁰) at Supercollider energies. The additional heavy particles (t, W, Z) in the final state can be used for tagging purposes, increasing the signal to background ratio. These reactions are dominated by bg and bg fusion. Their relevance for Higgs particle searches is discussed taking into account the expected efficiencies and purities for b-tagging. We find that, for tan β = 30, the cross sections for pp → bZ⁰φ are larger than 14 pb, over the whole intemediate range of M_A⁰, for A⁰ and at least one of the other two Higgses. Therefore this reaction is an excellent candidate for the discovery of one or more MSSM Higgs particles.     

On-line preconcentration and ICP determination for trace metal analysis

The use of a closed-loop on-line enrichment procedure in combination with an ICP plasma emission spectrometer has been developed for the analysis of trace metal ions, such as Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn. The procedure utilizes a preconcentration column filled with an anion exchange resin and 8-hydroxy-7-iodoquinoline-5-sulphonic acid is added to the sample prior to preconcentration. Details on the optimization of pretreatment and instrumental conditions are described. Results obtained for the analysis of river water and antarctic seawater are reported.Presented in part at the 1989 European Winter Conference on Plasma Spectrochemistry, Reutte, Austria
