Electrochemical Recovery of Silver from Lead Alloys in Chloride Melts

Electrochemical separation of lead-silver alloys into the constituents by thin-layer electrolysis in molten electrolytes, with bismuth as metal separator, is studied. It is proposed to determine the extent of component recovery by potentiometry.     

On the problem of calculating the optical film parameters from the measured transmission spectra

The procedure for calculating the dispersion of the refractive and absorption indices and thickness of an optical film, based on measurements of spectral dependence of the transmittance, is described. The film parameters are calculated using a solution of the approximation problem. The effect of the film model on the calculated values of the refractive and absorption indices is analyzed.     

On the connection of the superposition and homogeneous-solutions methods in wave propagation problems in a semi-infinite rigidly-clamped elastic layer

The process of harmonic wave propagation is investigated in a semi-infinite rigidly-clamped elastic layer. An analytic solution of the problem is obtained by the superposition method. The wave field expansion in the form of a normal mode series for a corresponding infinite waveguide is established. Continuum Limit of the Volterra Model, Separation of Variables and Non-Standard Realizations of the Virasoro Poisson Bracket

The classical Volterra model, equipped with the Faddeev-Takhtajan Poisson bracket provides a lattice version of the Virasoro algebra. The Volterra model being integrable, we can express the dynamical variables in terms of the so-called separated variables. Taking the continuum limit of these formulae, we obtain the Virasoro generators written as determinants of infinite matrices, the elements of which are constructed with a set of points lying on an infinite genus Riemann surface. The coordinates of these points are separated variables for an infinite set of Poisson commuting quantities including L ₀. The scaling limit of the eigenvector can also be calculated explicitly, so that the associated Schroedinger equation is in fact exactly solvable.     

Energy losses of dipoles traveling relative to a moving medium

We consider the radiation from nonoscillating dipoles traveling with constant velocity directed parallel or antiparallel to the velocity of a homogeneous transparent moving medium. It is assumed that the medium in its rest frame is isotropic and has no spatial dispersion. We obtain expressions for the radiative energy losses and estimate the polarization energy losses of electric and magnetic dipoles of different orientations. In particular, it is shown that the energy loss of a source is negative if it moves in the direction of the medium motion and the source velocity is less than the medium velocity. Interlaboratory comparisons and improvements of methods for acid number determination in used motor oils

The results of two interlaboratory comparisons of acid number determinations in used motor oils are discussed. It is shown that the comparability of the measurement results is not as good as that required by known standards for petroleum products. The problem is motor oil contaminants which accumulated during use, and which are the source of a matrix effect in the acid number determination. The standard methods’ drawbacks are analyzed and some improvements are proposed. Repeatability and accuracy of the improved methods are evaluated. Reaction of methyl bromopropiolate with diamines as a method of synthesis of imidazolidine derivatives

The effect of Erbium concentration on the optical spectrum of Erbium-doped fiber laser

We report an experimental observation of the influence of concentration of Er³⁺ ions in an Erbiumdoped silica fiber on the spectral characteristics of an erbium fiber laser. Our basic conclusion is that an increase of erbium concentration in the fiber results in the laser optical spectrum narrowing. We also discuss possible mechanisms responsible for this effect.
