We consider the Prandtl laminar boundary layer which occurs with stationary flow about a blunted cone at an angle of attack. The solution of the Prandtl equations is sought using a finite difference method. It is found that a smooth solution of the problem exists only in the vicinity of the rounded nose of the body, while far from the nose the solutions acquire a singularity; in the problem symmetry plane (on the downwind side) there is a discontinuity of the first derivatives of the velocity components and the density. In the study of the Prandtl boundary layer in the problem of stationary flow about a pointed cone at an angle of attack, it has been shown [1] that the self-similar solution (dependent on two independent variables) of the Prandtl equations has a discontinuity of the first derivatives in the problem symmetry plane (on the downwind side of the cone). The suggestion has been made that in the three-dimensional problem of flow about a blunt cone at an angle of attack the solutions of the Prandtl equations may also be discontinuous. The present study was carried out to clarify the nature of the behavior of the solutions of the three-dimensional Prandtl equations. To this end we considered stationary supersonic flow of an ideal gas past a blunted cone. The results of this study (as well as those of [1]) were obtained using a numerical, finite-difference method. However, an analysis of the numerical results (investigation of the scheme stability, reduction of step size, etc.) shows that the properties of the solutions of the finite-difference equations are not in this case a result of numerical effects, but reflect the behavior of the solutions of the differential equations. Simple methods for evaluating such derivatives along straight and curved directions are described. An investigation has been made in an aerodynamic shock tube, with M=8, of the diffuser starting with variable Reynolds numbers, and its throttle characteristics have been recorded. The results obtained enable conclusions to be made regarding the possibility of investigating diffusers in such types of tubes. In [1] the possibility of, in principle, determining the throat starting of a diffuser in an aerodynamic shock tube, and the time to establish flow in the diffuser channel, which was 300 sec, was measured. This paper is devoted to the further investigation of diffuser operation with variable Reynolds numbers, and to determining the throttle characteristics, in particular, the total pressure reduction coefficient.Moscow. Summary Dilute suspensions of polyoxymethylene crystals inp-xylene have been shown to behave as Bingham Plastic Fluids. The crystals are very thin hexagonal platelets and low concentrations are sufficient to provide a continuous high-voidage matrix which requires the application of a finite stress before deformation occurs. The behaviour of the system has been characterised with respect to changes in shear rate, temperature and concentration of suspended polymer.
Zusammenfassung Es wurde gezeigt, daß sich verdünnte Lösungen von Polyoxymethylen-Kristallen in p-Xylol wie eine Bingham-Flüssigkeit verhalten. Die Kristalle sind sehr dünne hexagonale Plättchen. Niedrige Konzentrationen sind für eine beständige Matrix, die das Aufbringen einer endlichen Spannung erfordert, bevor eine Deformation auftritt, ausreichend. Das Verhalten dieses Systems wurde unter Berücksichtigung von Änderungen der Schergeschwindigkeit, der Temperatur und der Konzentration des suspendierten Polymers charakterisiert.

In this contribution, we model the long-time behaviour of the desorption from an LDPE sheet, using non-Markovian random walks. It is shown that the mass of penetrant in the final stage of desorption decays as t m , where m is proportional to the exponent of the probability distribution (t) t –(1+u), 0 < v < 1. Furthermore, it is shown that this model may lead to the so-called mechanical stretched exponential relaxation, and that Wagner's memory function can be obtained as a special case.Presented at the second conference Recent Developments in Structured Continua, May 23–25, 1990, in Sherbrooke, Québec, Canada  相似文献

The propagation of harmonic waves through a system formed of coaxial tubes filled with incompressible continua is considered as a model of arterial pulse propagation in the craniospinal cavity. The inner tube represents a blood vessel and is modelled as a thin-walled membrane shell. The outer tube is assumed to be rigid to account for the constraint imposed on the vessels by the skull and the vertebrae. We consider two models: in the first model the annulus between the tubes is filled with fluid; in the second model the annulus is filled with a viscoelastic solid separated from the tubes by thin layers of fluid. In both models, the elastic tube is filled with fluid. The motion of the fluid is described by the linearized form of the Navier–Stokes equations, and the motion of the solid by classical elasticity theory. The results show that the wave speed in the system is lower than that for a fluid-filled elastic tube free of any constraint. This is due to the stresses generated to satisfy the condition that the volume in the system has to be conserved. However, the effect of the constraint weakens as the radius of the outer tube is increased, and it should be insignificant for the typical physiological parameter range.  相似文献

The material forces concept has become an elegant tool in continuum mechanics for the calculation of the thermodynamic driving force of a defect. Based on this concept, we have recently shown that inhomogeneities essentially shield or anti-shield crack tips from applied far-field stresses. The goal of this paper is to illustrate this by considering the model example of a crack in a CT-type specimen that contains a bimaterial interface. The crack driving force is calculated as the sum of the far-field driving force and the crack-tip shielding or anti-shielding. Several cases of inhomogeneity in either thermal or elastic properties are considered. Rather simple hand calculations are provided in addition to numerical results to illustrate the advantages of using the material forces concept.  相似文献

A similarity analysis of a nonlinear wave equation in elasticity is studied; in particular, one with anharmonic corrections. The symmetry transformation give rise to exact solutions via the method of invariants. In some cases, graphical figure of the solutions are presented. Furthermore, we consider some cases wherein the velocities of the longitudinal and transversal plane waves are variable. Finally, a brief discussion on how a symmetry analysis on a perturbation of the elasticity equation can be pursued.  相似文献

The fracture strengths and elastic moduli of arc-grown multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were measured by tensile loading inside of a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Eighteen tensile tests were performed on 14 MWCNTs with three of them being tested multiple times (3×, 2×, and 2×, respectively). All the MWCNTs fractured in the “sword-in-sheath” mode. The diameters of the MWCNTs were measured in a transmission electron microscope (TEM), and the outer diameter with an assumed 0.34 nm shell thickness was used to convert measured load-displacement data to stress and strain values. An unusual yielding before fracture was observed in two tensile loading experiments. The 18 outer shell fracture strength values ranged from 10 to 66 GPa, and the 18 Young's modulus values, obtained from a linear fit of the stress–strain data, ranged from 620 to 1,200 GPa, with a mean of 940 GPa. The possible influence of stress concentration at the clamps is discussed.  相似文献
