Pd2(dba)3/Xantphos-catalyzed cross-coupling of thiols and aryl bromides/triflates

The cross-coupling of aliphatic and aromatic thiols and aryl bromides/triflates mediated by a Pd₂(dba)₃/Xantphos catalytic system in refluxing xylene (140 °C) affords the corresponding aryl thioethers in good to excellent yields.     

Superoxide dismutase-like activity of cobalt(II) complexes based on a sugar platform

A SOD-like activity evaluated by a modified McCord-Fridovich test was evidenced for two Co(II) complexes built from "glycoligands" using a sugar platform derived from d-galactose and D-galactal and functionalized by three 2-picolyl groups.     

Multivariate Hazard Rates under Random Censorship

The data consists of multivariate failure times under right random censorship. By the kernel smoothing technique, convolutions of cumulative multivariate hazard functions suggest estimators of the so-called multivariate hazard functions. We establish strong i.i.d. representations and uniform bounds of the remainder terms on some compact sets of the underlying space. Thus asymptotic normality and uniform consistency on such sets are obtained. The asymptotic mean squared error gives an optimal bandwidth by the plug-in method. Simulations assess the performance of our estimators.     

Goodness-of-fit tests for copulas

This paper defines two distribution free goodness-of-fit test statistics for copulas. It states their asymptotic distributions under some composite parametric assumptions in an independent identically distributed framework. A short simulation study is provided to assess their power performances.     

Electrochemical functionalization of carbon surfaces by aromatic azide or alkyne molecules: a versatile platform for click chemistry

The electrochemical reduction of phenylazide or phenylacetylene diazonium salts leads to the grafting of azido or ethynyl groups onto the surface of carbon electrodes. In the presence of copper(I) catalyst, these azide- or alkyne-modified surfaces react efficiently and rapidly with compounds bearing an acetylene or azide function, thus forming a covalent 1,2,3-triazole linkage by means of click chemistry. This was illustrated with the surface coupling of ferrocenes functionalized with an ethynyl or azido group and the biomolecule biotin terminated by an acetylene group.     

Synthesis of a tricyclic tetraazatriacetic ligand for gadolinium(III) as potential contrast agent for MRI

A tricyclic tetraazatriacetic compound, which is a rigidified derivative of PCTA12 ligand with a cyclohexylene bridge replacing an ethylene one, was prepared. Two synthetic routes have been investigated, both of them implying a common functionalized triamine intermediate. Whatever the route, four synthetic steps were necessary to obtain the target tricyclic ligand. The more effective one (Route B) led to the desired compound in 19% overall yield from the triamine intermediate. The corresponding gadolinium complex of 1/1 stoichiometry was then prepared in order to evaluate it as potential contrast agent for MRI.     

Characterization of major and minor alk(en)ylresorcinols from mango (Mangifera indica L.) peels by high-performance liquid chromatography/atmospheric pressure chemical ionization mass spectrometry

5-Alkyl- and 5-alkenylresorcinols, as well as their hydroxylated derivatives, were extracted from mango (Mangifera indica L.) peels, purified on polyamide and characterized by high-performance liquid chromatography/atmospheric pressure chemical ionization mass spectrometry (HPLC/APcI-MS) for the first time. Among the 15 compounds analyzed, 3 major and 12 minor C(15)-, C(17)-, and C(19)-substituted resorcinols and related analogues, showing varying degrees of unsaturation, were characterized by their specific fragmentation patterns in collision-induced dissociation experiments. This marks the first report on the occurrence of mono-, di-, and triunsaturated C(15)-homologues, saturated and triunsaturated C(17)-homologues, and mono- and diunsaturated C(19)-homologues in mango peels. Additionally, several hydroxylated C(15)- and C(17)-homologues, also not yet described in mango, and a C(14)-monoene, unique because of its even-numbered side chain, were tentatively identified on the basis of their fragmentation patterns. The results obtained in the present study indicate that HPLC-DAD-APcI-MS(n), combined with the newly developed solid-phase extraction, is a powerful tool for the analysis of alk(en)ylresorcinols and could therefore be used for their determination in various matrices.
