INVARIANT PROPERTIES OF ABSORPTION PROFILES IN SPORANGIOPHORES OF Phycomyces blakesleeanus UNDER BALANCING BILATERAL ILLUMINATION

Abstract— Absorption spectra and spectra of the refractive indices were separately measured for cytoplasm and vacuole of Phycomyces blakesleeanus in the wavelengths domains 300 to 750 nm and 250 to 750 nm respectively. These data were then used to simulate absorption profiles for different orientations of the photoreceptor for measured action spectra for phototropic balance. The photoreceptor was assumed to be a flavin. Using the reference wavelengths 394, 450 and 507 nm as an example it is shown that the absorption profiles have, independent of the photoreceptor orientation, invariant properties. Under bilateral balancing illumination the symmetry of the absorption profiles is conserved and the total amount of energy absorbed at proximal and distal sides is an invariant under a symmetry transformation front to the rear side.     

Stable collective triaxial rotation in <Superscript>77</Superscript>Kr

Based on the γ -spectroscopic analysis of G.N. Sylvan et al., configuration-dependent cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky calculations have been performed. They describe the nucleus ⁷⁷Kr globally in good agreement with the experimental findings and the expectations derived from single-particle orbitals in a deformed potential. Within these calculations, the unambiguous assignment of a configuration with three protons and five neutrons in the g _9/2 shell to the high-spin Yrast states of negative parity indicates that the nucleus ⁷⁷Kr has stable triaxial deformation and rotates about the intermediate axis. This not only disproves the recent interpretation of an occupation of the d _5/2 orbital being responsible for the strong deformation in this band, but also represents one of the first examples in this mass region for such a rotation.     

Doorway states in the gamma decay-out of the yrast superdeformed band in 59Cu

The decay-out process of the yrast superdeformed band in 59Cu has been investigated. The firm determination of spin, parity, excitation energy, and configuration of the states involved in this process constitutes a unique situation for a detailed understanding of the decay-out mechanism. A theoretical model is introduced that includes a residual interaction and tunneling matrix element between bands, calculated in the configuration-dependent cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky model. This interaction causes the decay to occur via a small number of observed doorway states.     

Vacuum instability and refined limits on the Higgs meson mass

Exact numerical computations of the decay of a metastable vacuum at zero temperature are presented and are used to calculate a lower bound for the Higgs mass. The dependence of the bound on the Weinberg mixing angle and on chiral symmetry breaking is analyzed.
