Global attractors for the coupled suspension bridge system with temperature

This paper deals with the long‐term properties of the thermoelastic nonlinear string‐beam system related to the well‐known Lazer–McKenna suspension bridge model (0.1) In particular, no mechanical dissipation occurs in the equations, because the loss of energy is entirely due to thermal effects. The existence of regular global attractors for the associated solution semigroup is proved (without resorting to a bootstrap argument) for time‐independent supplies f,g,h and any . Lebesgue’s dominated convergence theorem in Bishop’s style

We present a constructive proof in Bishop’s style of Lebesgue’s dominated convergence theorem in the abstract setting of ordered uniform spaces. The proof generalises to this setting a classical proof in the framework of uniform lattices presented by Hans Weber in [Uniform lattices. II: order continuity and exhaustivity, Annali di Matematica pura ed applicata, (IV) CLXV (1993) 133-158].     

On the K-stability of complete intersections in polarized manifolds

We consider the problem of existence of constant scalar curvature Kähler metrics on complete intersections of sections of vector bundles. In particular we give general formulas relating the Futaki invariant of such a manifold to the weight of sections defining it and to the Futaki invariant of the ambient manifold. As applications we give a new Mukai–Umemura–Tian like example of Fano 5-fold admitting no Kähler–Einstein metric, and a strong evidence of K-stability of complete intersections in Grassmannians.     

Almost periodic and pseudo-almost periodic solutions to fractional differential and integro-differential equations

We study the existence of almost periodic (resp., pseudo-almost periodic) mild solutions for fractional differential and integro-differential equations in the case when the forcing term belongs to the class of Stepanov almost (resp., Stepanov-like pseudo-almost) periodic functions.     

Fixed point theorems for random pseudo-contractive mappings

Very recently in Fierro et al. (2009) [6], we obtained a general principle to prove the existence of Random Fixed Point Theorems. As a consequence of this, we have been able to obtain various generalizations for pseudo-contractive mappings with rather simple proofs. In addition, while we were deriving these extensions for random operators, some deterministic results arose, which also appear to be new.     

Spectral techniques and soft computing

Soft Computing denotes a set of paradigma related to cognitive modelling, which in the last years have been intensively studied, since important synergy effects among members of this set have been disclosed. Because of this, Soft Computing has emerged as an environment to effectively work with real world complex problems. Fuzzy Logic, Genetic Algorithms and Neural Networks are possibly the best known representatives of Soft Computing. In this paper we show how Spectral Techniques may help to further study these subjects or to improve their performance. The name Spectral Techniques comprises Methods and Applications based on Abstract Harmonic Analysis. A preliminary version of this work was presented at the 5th.
