Dwork cohomology and algebraic ${\Cal D}$-modules

Using local cohomology and algebraic -Modules, we generalize a comparison theorem between relative de Rham cohomology and Dwork cohomology due to N. Katz, P. Monsky, A. Adolphson and S. Sperber. Received June 10, 1999 / Published online July 20, 2000     

Hedetniemi's Conjecture and the Retracts of a Product of Graphs

We show that every core graph with a primitive automorphism group has the property that whenever it is a retract of a product of connected graphs, it is a retract of a factor. The example of Kneser graphs shows that the hypothesis that the factors are connected is essential. In the case of complete graphs, our result has already been shown in [4, 17], and it is an instance where Hedetniemi's conjecture is known to hold. In fact, our work is motivated by a reinterpretation of Hedetniemi's conjecture in terms of products and retracts.     

The property and the reals

The property may be generalized by using filters on in a very natural way. We analyze the necessary requirements for a space to have property for a filter . We construct special filters for which has the property, in particular a P-point and a Q-point.

     

Polynômes Harmoniques sur L'Espace du Bruit Blanc

Let denote the space of harmonic polynomial of . We study some properties of on the white noise space. We show that harmonic polynomials are characterized by an invariance property with respect to the S-transform, and that the closure (S)harm of harm in Hida's test-functionnals topology is exactly the kernel of the Gross Laplacian G. Lastly we show that Ker G is strictly contained in the space of functionnals of (S) which remain fixed under S-transform.     

Imaging of the angular-dependent coherent-scatter cross section with analyzer crystal: a Monte Carlo simulation

A nontomography approach for the measurement of angular-dependent coherent-scatter cross section of x rays (E?40-80 keV) is described. It is shown that an analyzer crystal, which is proposed to be used for the sampling of the cross section, simultaneously provides information about the location of the scattering volume inside the object. A numerical simulation demonstrates that this method can be applied for nondestructive analysis of an object's internal structure.     

Isolation and identification of inulooligosaccharides resulting from inulin hydrolysis

In this study, inulooligosaccharides (F_n-type inulin) resulting from the endo-inulinase hydrolysis of globe artichoke inulin were purified and characterized. The aim was to produce F_n oligomer standards with the intention of identifying them in the complex inulin chromatogram. Inulin was extracted from globe artichoke and presented a high average degree of polymerization (DP) of about 80 as determined by high-performance anion exchange chromatography coupled with pulsed amperometric detection (HPAEC-PAD). This inulin was hydrolyzed by a commercial endo-inulinase yielding a product with a very high F_n/GF_n molecule ratio, thus limiting the interference of GF_n during the purification process. High-performance size exclusion chromatography was used to individually isolate and collect each retention peak corresponding to a specific oligomer. The purity of these fractions was checked by HPAEC-PAD and showed that relatively pure molecules were produced. Electrospray ionization mass spectrometry allowed the molecular weight determination of these purified oligomers and ascertained their DP as F₂, F₃ and F₄. These F_2-4 standards were used with glucose, fructose, sucrose and GF_2-4 (commercially available) to spike commercial oligofructose products in order to determine the elution profile in the HPAEC-PAD chromatogram.     

Observation of long-lived muonic hydrogen in the 2S state

The kinetic energy distribution of ground state muonic hydrogen atoms mup(1S) is determined from time-of-flight spectra measured at 4, 16, and 64 hPa H2 room-temperature gas. A 0.9 keV component is discovered and attributed to radiationless deexcitation of long-lived mu p(2S) atoms in collisions with H2 molecules. The analysis reveals a relative population of about 1%, and a pressure-dependent lifetime (e.g., 30.4 +21.4/-9.7 ns at 64 hPa) of the long-lived mu p(2S) population, equivalent to a 2S quench rate in mu p(2S)+H2 collisions of 4.4 +2.1/-1.8 x 10(11) s(-1) at liquid-hydrogen density.     

Toward cocaine esterase therapeutics

Cocaine is among the most reinforcing of all drugs of abuse, yet no effective pharmacotherapy is available. Herein, we report the development and characterization of phage-displayed cocaine esterases with pharmacologically relevant kinetic parameters (kcat/Km approximately 104 M-1 s-1).     

Catalytic asymmetric hydrogenation of N-iminopyridinium ylides: expedient approach to enantioenriched substituted piperidine derivatives

We have developed an efficient catalytic enantioselective hydrogenation of pyridine derivatives. Enhanced reactivity was possible by an optimization of the electronic properties of the catalyst through ligand modification. This methodology shows the particular reactivity of N-iminopyridinium ylides that provides access to substituted piperidines in good enantiomeric excesses.
