The results of computer simulations of phase separation kinetics in a binary alloy quenched from a high temperature are analyzed in detail, using the ideas of Lifshitz and Slyozov. The alloy was modeled by a three-dimensional Ising model with Kawasaki dynamics. The temperature after quenching was 0.59T c, whereT c is the critical temperature, and the concentration of minority atoms was=0.075, which is about five times their largest possible single-phase equilibrium concentration at that temperature. The time interval covered by our analysis goes from about 1000 to 6000 attempted interchanges per site. The size distribution of small clusters of minority atoms is fitted approximately byc 1(1-)3 w(t),c 1 (1–)4 Q l w(t)l(2l10); wherec l is the concentration of clusters of sizel;Q 2,...,Q 10 are known constants, the cluster partition functions;t is the time; andw(t)=0.015(1+7.17t –1/3). Psychophysical estimates of cochlear function suggest that normal-hearing listeners exhibit a compressive basilar-membrane (BM) response. Listeners with moderate to severe sensorineural hearing loss may exhibit a linearized BM response along with reduced gain, suggesting the loss of an active cochlear mechanism. This study investigated how the BM response changes with increasing hearing loss by comparing psychophysical measures of BM compression and gain for normal-hearing listeners with those for listeners who have mild to moderate sensorineural hearing loss. Data were collected from 16 normal-hearing listeners and 12 ears from 9 hearing-impaired listeners. The forward masker level required to mask a fixed low-level, 4000-Hz signal was measured as a function of the masker-signal interval using a masker frequency of either 2200 or 4000 Hz. These plots are known as temporal masking curves (TMCs). BM response functions derived from the TMCs showed a systematic reduction in gain with degree of hearing loss. Contrary to current thinking, however, no clear relationship was found between maximum compression and absolute threshold.  相似文献

This report presents a new library of organometallic iridium(III) compounds of the type [Cp*IrCl(L)] (Cp*=pentamethylcyclopentadienyl and L=a functionalized β-ketoiminato ligand) showing moderate to high cytotoxicity against a range of cancer cell lines. All compounds show increased activity towards colorectal cancer, with preferential activity observed against the immortalized p53-null colorectal cell line, HCT116 p53-/-, with sensitivity factors (SF) up to 26.7. Additionally, the compounds have excellent selectivity for cancerous cells when tested against normal cell types, with selectivity ratios (SR) up to 35.6, contrary to that of cisplatin, which is neither selective nor specific for cancerous cells (SF=0.43 and SR=0.7–2.3). This work provides a preliminary understanding of the cytotoxicity of iridium compounds in the absence of p53 and has potential applications in treatment of cancers for which the p53 gene is absent or mutant.  相似文献

Distortion of nominally planar phthalocyanine macrocycles affects the excited state dynamics in that most of the excited-state energy decays through internal conversion. A click-type annulation reaction on a perfluorophthalocyanine platform appending a seven-membered ring to the β-positions on one or more of the isoindoles distorts the macrocycle and modulates solubility. The distorted derivative enables photoacoustic imaging, photothermal effects, and strong surface-enhanced resonance Raman signals.  相似文献

The human KDM7 subfamily histone H3 Nϵ-methyl lysine demethylases PHF8 (KDM7B) and KIAA1718 (KDM7A) have different substrate selectivities and are linked to genetic diseases and cancer. We describe experimentally based computational studies revealing that flexibility of the region linking the PHD finger and JmjC domains in PHF8 and KIAA1718 regulates interdomain interactions, the nature of correlated motions, and ultimately H3 binding and demethylation site selectivity. F279S an X-linked mental retardation mutation in PHF8 is involved in correlated motions with the iron ligands and second sphere residues. The calculations reveal key roles of a flexible protein environment in productive formation of enzyme-substrate complexes and suggest targeting the flexible KDM7 linker region is of interest from a medicinal chemistry perspective.  相似文献

Photochemical oxidative cyclodehydrogenation reactions are a versatile class of aromatic ring‐forming reactions. They are tolerant to functional group substitution and heteroatom inclusion, so can be used to form a diverse range of extended polyaromatic systems by fusing existing ring substituents. However, despite their undoubted synthetic utility, there are no existing models—computational or heuristic—that predict the outcome of photocyclisation reactions across all possible classes of reactants. This can be traced back to the fact that “negative” results are rarely published in the synthetic literature and the lack of a general conceptual framework for understanding how photoexcitation affects reactivity. In this work, we address both of these issues. We present experimental data for a series of aromatically substituted pyrroles and indoles, and show that quantifying induced atomic forces upon photoexcitation provides a powerful predictive model for determining whether a given reactant will photoplanarise and hence proceed to photocyclised product under appropriate reaction conditions. The propensity of a molecule to photoplanarise is related to localised changes in charge distribution around the putative forming ring upon photoexcitation. This is promoted by asymmetry in molecular structures and/or charge distributions, inclusion of heteroatoms and ethylene bridging and well‐separated or isolated photocyclisation sites.  相似文献

Using high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and electron energy-loss spectroscopy, we show that beryllium oxide crystallizes in the planar hexagonal structure in a graphene liquid cell by a wet-chemistry approach. These liquid cells can feature van-der-Waals pressures up to 1 GPa, producing a miniaturized high-pressure container for the crystallization in solution. The thickness of as-received crystals is beyond the thermodynamic ultra-thin limit above which the wurtzite phase is energetically more favorable according to the theoretical prediction. The crystallization of the planar phase is ascribed to the near-free-standing condition afforded by the graphene surface. Our calculations show that the energy barrier of the phase transition is responsible for the observed thickness beyond the previously predicted limit. These findings open a new door for exploring aqueous-solution approaches of more metal-oxide semiconductors with exotic phase structures and properties in graphene-encapsulated confined cells.  相似文献

We have been puzzled by the involvement of weak organic and inorganic bases in the synthesis of metal–N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complexes. Such bases are insufficiently strong to permit the presumed required deprotonation of the azolium salt (the carbene precursor) prior to metal binding. Experimental and computational studies provide support for a base-assisted concerted process that does not require free NHC formation. The synthetic protocol was found applicable to a number of transition-metal- and main-group-centered NHC compounds and could become the synthetic route of choice to form M–NHC bonds.  相似文献
