(Methacryloyl ethylenedioxycarbonyl) benzyl N,N‐diethyldithiocarbamate (HEMA‐E‐In) was synthesized and used as a monomer iniferter to develop a novel, photopatternable grafting technology. This molecule functions as both a methacrylic monomer and a photoiniferter (photoinitiator–transfer agent–terminator). The structure of HEMA‐E‐In was characterized by 1H NMR, Fourier transform infrared, and ultraviolet–visible spectroscopies. In the presence of the monomer iniferter, methyl methacrylate was polymerized by exposure to 365‐nm ultraviolet radiation, confirming the initiation capability of HEMA‐E‐In. After the copolymerization of HEMA‐E‐In into a methacrylate‐based polymer, attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectra revealed that the photoiniferter functionality was present at the surface of this polymeric substrate. Photografting of poly(ethylene glycol) monomethacrylate monomer from the surface caused a significant change in the hydrophobicity of the surface as demonstrated by contact angle measurements. The novel monomer photoiniferter HEMA‐E‐In initiates the polymerization of bulk monomer and provides a reactive functionality that facilitates further initiation and polymer modification by the polymerization of different monomers. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The cucurbit[n]uril (CB[n]) family of macrocycles occupies a prominent role in molecular recognition and self-assembly studies despite the current inability to access specific cucurbit[n]uril homologues, derivatives, and analogues by straightforward tailor-made synthetic procedures. A simple and novel method was developed to successfully synthesize N-succinyl-O-carboxymethylchitosan (NSOCMCS) using N-acylation of chitosan with succinic anhydride. The NSOCMCS structure was characterized by Fourier transform infrared and
1H nuclear magnetic resonance. The aggregation behaviors of NSOCMCS were studied using fluorescence spectroscopy, dynamic light
scattering, and atomic force microscopy techniques. The critical aggregation concentration of NSOCMCS in water was determined
to be 0.2–0.3 mg/ml. The apparent hydrodynamic radium of an NSOCMCS aggregate was dependent on the concentration. The aggregates
demonstrated a much swollen association conformation in aqueous solution. The possible aggregation mechanisms for the NSOCMCS

X‐ray reflectivity has been used to determine the mass uptake of probe molecules in porous thin films supported on thick silicon wafers. The adsorption occurs by capillary condensation when the films are exposed to probe vapor at controlled partial vapor pressures. The probe solvent partial pressure was varied by mixing saturated air and dry air at constant temperature or by changing sample temperature at a constant vapor concentration. Pore size distribution in the films can be calculated from the probe uptake with typical porosimetric approaches such as the application of the Kelvin equation to convert partial pressure into pore size. For illustration, the pore size distribution of three different nanoporous thin films, the primary candidate of ultra‐low‐k interlevel dielectrics in the next generation of integrated circuit chips, was determined with this technique. Phase separation in the formation of hollow particles by suspension polymerization for divinylbenzene/toluene droplets dissolving polystyrene 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Phase-separation behavior within polymerizing divinylbenzene/toluene droplet dissolving polystyrenes (PS) was investigated to clarify the formation mechanism of the hollow polymer particles by suspension polymerization. No hollow particles were obtained at a low content of low-molecular-weight PS where phase separation occurred at high conversion. On the other hand, hollow particles were obtained at a high content of high-molecular-weight PS where phase separation occurred at low conversion. The phase separation in an early stage of the polymerization, which was promoted by the presence of PS and cross-links of polydivinylbenzene, was a key factor for the formation of the hollow structure. 相似文献
