Lower bounds for densities of uniformly elliptic random variables on Wiener space

 In this article, we generalize the lower bound estimates for uniformly elliptic diffusion processes obtained by Kusuoka and Stroock. We define the concept of uniform elliptic random variable on Wiener space and show that with this definition one can prove a lower bound estimate of Gaussian type for its density. We apply our results to the case of the stochastic heat equation under the hypothesis of unifom ellipticity of the diffusion coefficient. On quartics with three-divisible sets of cusps

 We study the geometry and codes of quartic surfaces with many cusps. We apply Gr?bner bases to find examples of various configurations of cusps on quartics. <Emphasis Type="Italic">I</Emphasis>-projection onto isotonic cones and its applications to maximum likelihood estimation for log-linear models

A frequently occurring problem is to find a probability vector,p∈D, which minimizes theI-divergence between it and a given probability vector π. This is referred to as theI-projection of π ontoD. Darroch and Ratcliff (1972,Ann. Math. Statist.,43, 1470–1480) gave an algorithm whenD is defined by some linear equalities and in this paper, for simplicity of exposition, we propose an iterative procedure whenD is defined by some linear inequalities. We also discuss the relationship betweenI-projection and the maximum likelihood estimation for multinomial distribution. All of the results can be applied to isotonic cone.     

<Emphasis Type="Italic">G</Emphasis>-covering subgroup systems for the classes of supersoluble and nilpotent groups

LetF be a class of groups andG a group. We call a set Σ of subgroups ofG aG-covering subgroup system for the classF (or directly aF-covering subgroup system ofG) ifG ∈F whenever every subgroup in Σ is inF. In this paper, we provide some nontrivial sets of subgroups of a finite groupG which are simultaneouslyG-covering subgroup systems for the classes of supersoluble and nilpotent groups. Decay and regularity for dispersive equations with constant coefficients

This article discusses some smoothing estimates of the initial value problem for dispersive equations with constant coefficients. In particular, it is shown that a certain condition for the principal part of the symbol (see the assumption (1.3) below, which is equivalent to the one “of principal type” in the paper by Ben-Artzi and Devinatz [2]) is necessary and sufficient for the maximal smoothing in space-time. Sets with two associative operations

In this paper we consider duplexes, which are sets with two associative binary operations. Dimonoids in the sense of Loday are examples of duplexes. The set of all permutations carries a structure of a duplex. Our main result asserts that it is a free duplex with an explicitly described set of generators. The proof uses a construction of the free duplex with one generator by planary trees.     

A characterization of certain irreducible symplectic 4-folds

Some remarks on the universal cover of an open K3 surface

 We shall give, in an optimal form, a sufficient numerical condition for the finiteness of the fundamental group of the smooth locus of a normal K3 surface. We shall moreover prove that, if the normal K3 surface is elliptic and the above fundamental group is not finite, then there is a finite covering which is a complex torus. An obstruction to the positivity of relative Yamabe invariants

For a supergroup , we describe an obstruction to the existence of positive scalar curvature metrics with minimal boundary condition on a compact n-dimensional -manifold W with nonempty boundary M, , in terms of the bordism class [M] in the Stolz obstruction group associated to [St2]. In par ticular, when W is a 5-dimensional spin manifold and the -invariant of a connected component of M is nonzero, we prove that W does not admit a positive scalar curvature metric with minimal boundary condition.
