High intensity pulsed ultrasound, interacting with microbubble contrast agents, is potentially useful for drug delivery, cancer treatment, and tissue ablation, among other applications. To establish the fundamental understanding on the interaction of a microbubble (in an infinite volume of water) with an ultrasound pressure field, a numerical study is performed using the boundary element method. The response of the bubble, in terms of its shape at different times, the maximum bubble radius obtained, the oscillation time, the jet velocity, and its translational movement, is studied. The effect of ultrasound intensity and initial bubble size is examined as well. One important outcome is the determination of the conditions under which a clear jet will be formed in a microbubble in its interaction with a specific sound wave. The high speed jet is crucial for the aforementioned intended applications.  相似文献

Numerical studies have been carried out to investigate the detailed geometrical effects of full three-dimensional aero-intakes on the radiation of the discrete-frequency rotor-stator interaction noise. The near-field acoustic radiation characteristics and the far-field directivity patterns from the scarf and scoop aero-intakes with three different scarf/scoop angles are quantitatively analyzed and compared. The near-field predictions were obtained by solving the linearized Euler equations with computational aeroacoustic techniques consisting of high-order finite difference scheme, non-reflecting boundary conditions, overset grids and parallel computational methods. For the prediction of far-field directivity pattern, the Kirchhoff integral method was applied. By comparing the directivities of discrete-frequency noise radiating from the scarf and the scoop aero-intakes with that from an axisymmetric aero-intake, it is shown that the 7 dB noise reduction at downward peak radiation angle can be achieved by using the scoop aero-intake with scoop angle of 15°, and the 5 dB noise reduction by the scarf aero-intake with the scarf angle of 15°. The scattering of the radiating acoustic wave by the background mean flow around the aero-intakes shifts the peak lobe radiation angle toward ground and increases the amplitude of the acoustic pressure compared with the cases without mean flow effect. Overall, the scoop aero-intake was found to be more effective than the scarf and the axisymmetric aero-intakes in view of the lower noise radiation toward ground.  相似文献

Application of a magnetic field offers an incisive opportunity to tune competing interactions in complex materials. Here we probe field-induced changes in the local structure of DyMn2O5 by using magnetoinfrared spectroscopy. The high tunability of the dielectric constant and ferroelectric polarization with field is well documented in the literature, but the lattice response on the microscopic level remains unknown. In this work, we reveal the dynamic nature of the local structural response to field and analyze it in terms of calculated mode displacements and local lattice distortions.  相似文献

The electrocatalytic CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) can dynamise the carbon cycle by lowering anthropogenic CO2 emissions and sustainably producing valuable fuels and chemical feedstocks. Methanol is arguably the most desirable C1 product of CO2RR, although it typically forms in negligible amounts. In our search for efficient methanol‐producing CO2RR catalysts, we have engineered Ag‐Zn catalysts by pulse‐depositing Zn dendrites onto Ag foams (PD‐Zn/Ag foam). By themselves, Zn and Ag cannot effectively reduce CO2 to CH3OH, while their alloys produce CH3OH with Faradaic efficiencies of approximately 1 %. Interestingly, with nanostructuring PD‐Zn/Ag foam reduces CO2 to CH3OH with Faradaic efficiency and current density values reaching as high as 10.5 % and ?2.7 mA cm?2, respectively. Control experiments and DFT calculations pinpoint strained undercoordinated Zn atoms as the active sites for CO2RR to CH3OH in a reaction pathway mediated by adsorbed CO and formaldehyde. Surprisingly, the stability of the *CHO intermediate does not influence the activity.  相似文献

We designed a minilibrary of 55 small molecule peptidomimetics based on beta-turns of the neurotrophin growth factor polypeptides neurotrophin-3 (NT-3) and nerve growth factor (NGF). Direct binding, binding competition, and biological screens identified agonistic ligands of the ectodomain of the neurotrophin receptors TrkC and TrkA. Agonism is intrinsic to the peptidomimetic ligand (in the absence of neurotrophins), and/or can also be detected as potentiation of neurotrophin action. Remarkably, some peptidomimetics afford both neurotrophic activities of cell survival and neuronal differentiation, while others afford discrete signals leading to either survival or differentiation. The high rate of hits identified suggests that focused minilibraries may be desirable for developing bioactive ligands of cell surface receptors. Small, selective, proteolytically stable ligands with defined biological activity may have therapeutic potential.  相似文献

We show, computationally, that single-walled silicon nanotubes (SiNTs) can adopt a number of distorted tubular structures, representing respective local energy minima, depending on the theory used and the initial models adopted. In particular, "gearlike" structures containing alternating sp(3)-like and sp(2)-like silicon local configurations have been found to be the dominant structural form for SiNTs via density-functional tight-binding molecular dynamics simulations (followed by geometrical optimization using Hartree-Fock or density function theory) at moderate temperatures (below 100 K). The gearlike structures of SiNTs deviate considerably from, and are energetically more stable than, the smooth-walled tubes (the silicon analogues of single-walled carbon nanotubes). They are, however, energetically less favorable than the "string-bean-like" SiNT structures previously derived from semiempirical molecular orbital calculations. The energetics and the structures of gearlike SiNTs are shown to depend primarily on the diameter of the tube, irrespective of the type (zigzag, armchair, or chiral). In contrast, the energy gap is very sensitive to both the diameter and the type of the nanotube.  相似文献

Colloidal photonic crystals were fabricated using polystyrene particles (180 nm) and PMMA particles (450 nm), respectively, with a new and simple self-assembly method without special equipment. SEM images indicate that the prepared samples have ordered structures with few defects. The position of the stop-band scale nicely agrees with the particles' size. The sintering process of the PS photonic crystal film was studied with AFM heating system.  相似文献

Methanolic extracts of paint samples of different composition and age were qualitatively investigated by GC–MS using an on-column injector after off-line methylation or trimethylsilyl derivatisation, and on-line thermally assisted (trans)methylation with tetramethylammonium hydroxide using Curie-point pyrolysis–GC–MS. The combination of these three analytical strategies led to the identification of typical oxidation products of unsaturated fatty acids by interpretation of their mass spectrum. Some of the identified compounds have not been reported before. Both the off-line and on-line GC–MS strategy show series of short-chain fatty (di)acids and C16 and (oxidised) C18 fatty acids. The major advantage of the on-line pyrolysis–GC–MS approach is that chemical work-up is minimal and very quick. With this technique both the carboxylic acid functionalities, and hydroxyl groups are methylated. Young paint films are shown to contain relatively more oxidised C18 fatty acids and less diacids compared to older paints, which is indicative for the on-going oxidation processes within the paint. After trimethylsilylation, monoacylglycerols are detected indicative for hydrolytic processes, which reflect the relative distribution of the most prominent silylated fatty acids present. Relatively more C16 and C18 monoacylglycerols are found in young paints, whereas older paints contain higher amounts of monoacylglycerols of diacids.  相似文献

Chimeric genes coding for prepro region of yeast alpha-factor and anglerfish SRIF were expressed in rat GH3 cells to determine whether yeast signals could regulate hormone processing in mammalian cells. We report that nascent hybrid polypeptides were efficiently targeted to ER, where cleavage of signal peptides and core glycosylation occurred, and were localized mainly in Golgi. These data indicate that prepro region of yeast alpha-factor functions in sorting molecules to secretory pathway in mammalian cells. A hybrid construct with a mutated signal peptide underwent similar ER translocation, whereas such a mutation resulted in defective translocation in yeast (Cheong et al., 1997). This difference may be due to the differences in ER translocation between yeast and mammalian cells, i.e., posttranslational versus cotranslational translocation. Processing and secretion of metabolically labeled hybrid propeptides to mature SRIF peptides were assessed by HPLC. When pulse-labeled cells were chased for up to 2 h, intracellular propeptides disappeared with a half-life of approximately 25 min, showing that approximately 68% of initially synthesized propeptides were secreted constitutively. About 22% of SRIF-related products were proteolytically processed to mature SRIF, of which 38.7% were stored intracellularly with a half-life of approximately 2 h. In addition, immunocytochemical localization showed that a small proportion of SRIF molecules accumulated in secretory vesicles. All these results suggest that yeast prepropeptide could direct hybrid precursors to translocate into ER lumen and transit through secretory pathway to the distal elements of Golgi compartment, but could process and target it less efficiently to downstream in rat endocrine cells.  相似文献
