In the present paper the BELL and TOUCHARD partition polynomials have been used in expressing certain probabilities in finite fluctuation problems in random walks. The study of these probabilities is simplified by using properties of these polynomials.  相似文献

The distribution with probability function p k(n, , ) = A n, k(, )/(+ )[p], k = 0, 1, 2, ..., n, where the parameters and are positive real numbers, A n, k (, ) is the generalized Eulerian number and ( + )[n] = ( + )( + +1) ... ( + +n – 1), introduced and discussed by Janardan (1988, Ann. Inst. Statist. Math., 40, 439–450), is further studied. The probability generating function of the generalized Eulerian distribution is expressed by a generalized Eulerian polynomial which, when expanded suitably, provides the factorial moments in closed form in terms of non-central Stirling numbers. Further, it is shown that the generalized Eulerian distribution is unimodal and asymptotically normal.  相似文献

In this article we introduce two new concepts, those of a τ-CS and a s-τ-CS module, which are both torsion-theoretic analogues of CS modules. We investigate their relationship with the familiar concepts of τ-injective, τ-simple and τ-uniform modules and compare them with τ-complemented (τ-injective) modules, which were considered by other authors as torsion-theoretic analogues of CS modules. We are interested in decomposing a relatively CS module into indecomposable submodules, and in determining when a direct sum of relatively CS modules is relatively CS. This paper forms part of the Ph.D. thesis of the first author, written under the supervision of the second author.
