Symmetry of extremal functions for the Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequalities

We study the symmetry property of extremal functions to a family of weighted Sobolev inequalities due to Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg. By using the moving plane method, we prove that all non-radial extremal functions are axially symmetric with respect to a line passing through the origin.

     

Real-root property of the spectral polynomial of the Treibich–Verdier potential and related problems

We study the spectral polynomial of the Treibich–Verdier potential. Such spectral polynomial, which is a generalization of the classical Lamé polynomial, plays fundamental roles in both the finite-gap theory and the ODE theory of Heun's equation. In this paper, we prove that all the roots of such spectral polynomial are real and distinct under some assumptions. The proof uses the classical concept of Sturm sequence and isomonodromic theories. We also prove an analogous result for a polynomial associated with a generalized Lamé equation, where we apply a new approach based on the viewpoint of the monodromy data.     

Non-Abelian Multiple Vortices in Supersymmetric Field Theory

In this paper, we consider a system of non-Abelian multiple vortex equations governing coupled SU(N) and U(1) gauge and Higgs fields which may be embedded in a supersymmetric field theory framework. When the underlying domain is doubly periodic, we prove the existence and uniqueness of an n-vortex solution under a necessary and sufficient condition explicitly relating the domain size to the vortex number n and the Higgs boson masses. When the underlying domain is the full plane, we use a constructive approach to establish the existence and uniqueness of an n-vortex solution.

Multiplicity for Self-Dual Condensate Solutions in the Maxwell-Chern-Simons O(3) Sigma Model

In this paper, we study multiple existence of solutions of an elliptic system on a flat torus arising from the self-dual Maxwell-Chern-Simons O(3) sigma model. Using the Leray-Schauder degree, we find an explicit range of κ and q for which we have at least two vortex-antivortex solutions. For vortex solutions, we provide a complete picture of the range of κ and q for multiple existence of solutions.
