A comparative study, at both the macroscopic and microscopic level, of skin photosensitivity caused by four isomeric forms of benzoporphyrin derivative (BPD) has been carried out, and compared to effects of Photofrin. Animals injected intravenously with BPD analogues and exposed to light 3 h later showed extensive photosensitivity. Animals receiving the monoacid derivatives of BPD (BPD-MA and BPD-MB) showed markedly more photosensitivity than those receiving the diacid derivatives (BPD-DA and BPD-DB). Animals receiving BPD analogues which were exposed to light 24 h or more later showed only minimal reactivity. Histological examination of biopsies taken after photosensitizer injection and light exposure showed extensive changes in epidermis and dermis, including epidermal erosion, degranulation of the stratum granulosum, spongiosis, depletion in cellularity and mast cell degranulation. These changes were noted to be similar to changes caused by Photofrin.  相似文献

Abstract— Monochromatic red light generated by a tunable dye laser is currently being utilized for the treatment of solid tumors with hematoporphyrin derivative (HpD) photoradiation therapy (PRT). Experiments were performed using mammalian cells to determine the most efficient wavelength of red light (620 to 640 nm range) for HpD induced cellular photoinactivation. Decrease in the clonogenic potential of Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells was examined following both short (I h) and extended (12 h) HpD incubation times. Maximal photosensitization was observed with wavelengths ranging from 630 to 632.5 nm and the action spectra for cell killing matched the absorption spectra for HpD bound to cells. Similar observations were obtained following both short and extended HpD-cell incubation times. The potential relevance of these results as they relate to clinical HpD PRT are discussed.  相似文献

Feral Hogs (Sus scrofa) are an invasive species that have occupied the Great Smoky Mountains National Park since the early 1900s. Recent studies on vegetation, mast, and harvest history were important for our work. Using these data, a model with discrete time and space was formulated to represent the feral hog dynamics in the Park. Management strategies and key characteristics of the population were investigated. The model uses observed mast variation to help govern population dynamics and results indicate that Park control efforts have limited the growth of the population.  相似文献

The principle of magnetic levitation is demonstrated using a large magnetic field gradient to elevate a polycrystalline sample of dodecyloxycyanobiphenyl against gravity. Additionally, a nematic droplet of pentylcyanobiphenyl clinging to a vertically oriented wire is elevated against gravity. The contact angle and length of the droplet are extracted from the droplet shape in the context of a gravitation-free model.  相似文献

Abstract Following a catastrophic disturbance, forest managers may choose to perform a salvage harvest to recoup timber losses. When the disturbance process evolves stochastically, a unique option value arises associated with the salvage harvest decision. This option value represents the value of postponing a salvage harvest to gain more information about the disturbance process. This paper uses a real options approach to determine how much of a forested area must be infested to trigger a salvage harvest when the forest provides both timber and nontimber values. Analytical results indicate slower rates of forest recovery will optimally delay a salvage harvest while forested areas with large timber values and where nontimber values are more sensitive to the presence of dead and dying trees should be harvested more immediately. The model is applied to a mountain pine beetle outbreak in Idaho's Sawtooth National Forest using readily available aerial detection survey data.  相似文献
