Pulsed gas lenses

The concept of a pulsed gas lens is proposed. Potential applications are envisaged and preliminary experiments with pulsed ray refraction are reported.     

Oxyanion derivatives of cuprate superconductors superconducting 123 phosphates

While YSr₂Cu₃O₇ cannot be prepared under ambient conditions, partial substitution of the phosphate group for copper, as in YSr₂Cu_2.8(PO₄)_0.2O_y, stabilizes this phase in the orthorhombic structure, but the material is not superconducting. Superconductivity in YSr₂Cu_2.8(PO₄)_0.2O_y is obtained by increasing the hole concentration through partial substitution of Y by Ca, as in Y_0.7Ca_0.3Sr₂Cu_2.8(PO₄)_0.2O_y (T_c≈40 K). By incorporating the phosphate group in orthorhombic YBaSrCu₃O ₇, a stable tetragonal derivative of the formula YBaSrCu_2.8(PO₄)_0.2O_y (T_c≈ 47 K) has been prepared; the T_c increases to 70 K by partial substitution of Y by Ca as in Y_0.7Ca_0.3BaSrCu_2.8(PO₄)_0.2O_y.     

Confinement of electrons and ions in a combined trap with the potential for antihydrogen production

Experiments with electrons and ions in a combined trap are reported. The unique capability to confine particles with opposite charge and very different mass simultaneously in the same spatial region makes the combined trap a promising device for future synthesis of antihydrogen.     

Optimal Domains for <Emphasis Type="Italic">L</Emphasis><Superscript>0</Superscript>-valued Operators Via Stochastic Measures

We study extension of operators T: E→ L⁰([0, 1]), where E is an F–function space and L⁰([0, 1]) the space of measurable functions with the topology of convergence in measure, to domains larger than E, and we study the properties of such domains. The main tool is the integration of scalar functions with respect to stochastic measures and the corresponding spaces of integrable functions. Randomized UMD Banach spaces and decoupling inequalities for stochastic integrals

In this paper we prove the equivalence of decoupling inequalities for stochastic integrals and one-sided randomized versions of the UMD property of a Banach space as introduced by Garling.

     

An Interval-Parameter Fuzzy Approach for Multiobjective Linear Programming Under Uncertainty

An interval-parameter fuzzy linear programming method (IFMOLP) is proposed in this study for multiple objective decision-making under uncertainty. As a hybrid of interval-parameter and fuzzy methodologies, the IFMOLP incorporates interval-parameter linear programming and fuzzy multiobjective programming approaches to form an integrated optimization system. The method inherits advantages of interval-parameter programming, and allows uncertainties and decision-makers’ aspirations to be effectively communicated into its programming processes and resulting solutions. Membership functions for both objectives and constraints are formulated to reflect uncertainties in different system components and their interrelationships. An interactive solution procedure has been developed based on solution approaches of the interval-parameter and fuzzy programming techniques, plus necessary measures for handling the multiobjective feature. A didactic example is provided in the paper to illustrate the detailed solution process. Possibilities of further improvements by seeking Pareto optimum and incorporating flexible preference within constraints are also discussed.     

Frame Wavelets with Compact Supports for L^2（R^n）

The construction of frame wavelets with compact supports is a meaningful problem in wavelet analysis. In particular, it is a hard work to construct the frame wavelets with explicit analytic forms. For a given n × n real expansive matrix A, the frame-sets with respect to A are a family of sets in R^n. Based on the frame-sets, a class of high-dimensional frame wavelets with analytic forms are constructed, which can be non-bandlimited, or even compactly supported. As an application, the construction is illustrated by several examples, in which some new frame wavelets with compact supports are constructed. Moreover, since the main result of this paper is about general dilation matrices, in the examples we present a family of frame wavelets associated with some non-integer dilation matrices that is meaningful in computational geometry.     

Mössbauer study of nanodimensional nickel ferrite – mechanochemical synthesis and catalytic properties

Iron–nickel spinel oxide NiFe₂O₄ nanoparticles have been prepared by the combination of chemical precipitation and subsequent mechanical milling. For comparison, their analogue obtained by thermal synthesis is also studied. Phase composition and structural properties of iron–nickel oxides are investigated by X-ray diffraction and Mössbauer spectroscopy. Their catalytic behavior in methanol decomposition to CO and methane is tested. An influence of the preparation method on the reduction and catalytic properties of iron–nickel samples is established.     

Decoupling Problem for Systems of Quasi-Linear pde’s

The necessary and sufficient conditions for the decoupling of a quasi-linear system of partial differential equations into k non-interacting subsystems are derived. Several necessary conditions for the decoupling are found and applied to the Benney system.     

Hilbert algebras as implicative partial semilattices

The infimum of elements a and b of a Hilbert algebra are said to be the compatible meet of a and b, if the elements a and b are compatible in a certain strict sense. The subject of the paper will be Hilbert algebras equipped with the compatible meet operation, which normally is partial. A partial lower semilattice is shown to be a reduct of such an expanded Hilbert algebra i ?both algebras have the same ?lters.An expanded Hilbert algebra is actually an implicative partial semilattice (i.e., a relative subalgebra of an implicative semilattice),and conversely.The implication in an implicative partial semilattice is characterised in terms of ?lters of the underlying partial semilattice.
