Prochiral alkenes, aldehydes, and ketones constitute the most frequently used starting materials for enantioselective organic syntheses. Protocols often involve chiral binding agents or Lewis acids that can give two diastereomeric adducts, the ratios of which are measures of chiral recognition. With π adducts, the diastereomers differ in the enantioface of the C?C or O?C group bound to the Lewis acid. This review provides the first comprehensive analysis of such equilibria and related binding phenomena with chiral transition metal Lewis acids. An extensive body of data from the authors' laboratory for complexes of the pyramidal rhenium fragment [(η5?C5H5)Re(No)(PPh3)]+ ( I ) affords particular insight. Literature data for other complexes are also summarized. A general model for chiral recognition based upon the relative steric properties of four quadrants is presented. This enables binding selectivities to be individually and rationally optimized for different classes of ligands. Electronic effects are also identified and correlated with specific structural properties. Relationships between binding equilibria, reactivity, and product configurations are discussed.  相似文献

The synthesis and characterization of cationic platinum complexes of the type [(R(2)PC(2)H(4)PR(2))PtMe(OEt(2))]BAr(F) (R = Cy, Et) are reported. These electrophilic platinum cations are found to react quantitatively with arenes (benzene, toluene) at room temperature by undergoing intermolecular C-H activation with concomitant C-C coupling to generate complexes of the type [[Pt(R(2)PC(2)H(4)PR(2))](2)(mu-eta(3):eta(3)-biaryl)][BAr(F)](2). The dianionic biaryl ligands in these compounds exhibit a rare mu-eta(3):eta(3)-bis-allyl bonding mode and can be removed from the complex with stoichiometric oxidants to generate the free biaryl and [(R(2)PC(2)H(4)PR(2))Pt(mu-X)](2)[BAr(F)](2) (R = Cy, Et; X = Cl, I). The cationic platinum complexes [(R(2)PC(2)H(4)PR(2))PtMe(OEt(2))]BAr(F) (R = Cy, Et) are also quite reactive with water, forming the bridging hydroxide complexes [(R(2)PC(2)H(4)PR(2))Pt(mu-OH)](2)[BAr(F)](2) (R = Cy, Et). A possible mechanism is proposed for the C-C coupling reaction based upon the structures of these bridging biphenyl complexes, which provides a new perspective for the related palladium-catalyzed oxidative coupling of arenes to form biaryls.  相似文献

(Methacryloyl ethylenedioxycarbonyl) benzyl N,N‐diethyldithiocarbamate (HEMA‐E‐In) was synthesized and used as a monomer iniferter to develop a novel, photopatternable grafting technology. This molecule functions as both a methacrylic monomer and a photoiniferter (photoinitiator–transfer agent–terminator). The structure of HEMA‐E‐In was characterized by 1H NMR, Fourier transform infrared, and ultraviolet–visible spectroscopies. In the presence of the monomer iniferter, methyl methacrylate was polymerized by exposure to 365‐nm ultraviolet radiation, confirming the initiation capability of HEMA‐E‐In. After the copolymerization of HEMA‐E‐In into a methacrylate‐based polymer, attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectra revealed that the photoiniferter functionality was present at the surface of this polymeric substrate. Photografting of poly(ethylene glycol) monomethacrylate monomer from the surface caused a significant change in the hydrophobicity of the surface as demonstrated by contact angle measurements. The novel monomer photoiniferter HEMA‐E‐In initiates the polymerization of bulk monomer and provides a reactive functionality that facilitates further initiation and polymer modification by the polymerization of different monomers. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Abstract— A labile intermediate in the photolytic rearrangement of the antibacterial drug, metronidazole, was identified by isolating the product of photolysis of metronidazole benzoate in methanol. The intermediate, 1-hydroxyethyl-2-methyl-4-hydroxyimino-5-oxo-imidazole, was shown to act as a bidentate chelating agent for copper(II) ions, whereas metronidazole forms a weak monodentate complex. The intermediate may be relevant to the bioactivation mechanism of metronidazole.  相似文献

The formation of the compound RSnX(acac)2 (acac = 2,4-pentanedionato) by reaction of bis(2,4-pentanedionato)tin(II) on a halide RX with R = CH3, C2H5, C4H9, C6H5, CH2I, (C6H5)3SnCH2, (C2H5)3SnCH2 and X = I, Br has been studied by polarography. At 25°C, it is in fact an equilibrium whose constant has been measured. The intermediate formation of the ion-pair [RSn(acac)2+X?] has allowed us to explain the experimental results.  相似文献

We investigate the influence of confinement on the steady state microstructure of emulsions sheared between parallel plates, in a regime where the average droplet dimension is comparable to the gap width between the confining walls. Utilizing droplet velocimetry, we find that the droplets can organize into discrete layers under the influence of shear. The number of layers decreases from two (at relatively higher shear rates) to one (at lower shear rates), as the drops grow slightly larger due to coalescence. We argue that the layering and overall composition profile may be controlled by the interplay of droplet collisions (which can cause separation of droplet centers in the velocity gradient direction), droplet migration toward the centerline (due to wall effects), and droplet packing constraints. We also study the effects of mixture composition on droplet microstructure, and summarize these results in the form of a morphology diagram in the parameter space of mass fraction and shear rate. We find that formation of strings of the suspended phase (reported earlier by our group in flow-visualization studies on confined emulsions) is observed over a broad composition window. We also find a stable (nontransient) morphology wherein the droplets are arranged in highly ordered pearl-necklace chain structures.  相似文献
