Polarization-selective switching in holographically formed polymer dispersed liquid crystals

We have developed an optical stack of holographically formed polymer dispersed liquid-crystal (H-PDLC) devices that is fully operational with nonpolarized light sources. The device consists of two H-PDLC transmission gratings separated by a passive polarization rotator that can output a diffracted s-polarized, p-polarized, or s- and p-polarized beam simultaneously.     

Optical Behavior of ZnS:Cu Microcrystals Embedded in Porous Silica Gels

Emission and excitation spectra of ZnS:Cu microcrystals trapped in porous silica xerogels are presented. This system is characterized by intense, long-lived green emission at room temperature. It was observed that this emission was greatly reduced after compressing the xerogel samples.     

Galilei-invariant higher-order equations of burgers and korteweg-de vries types

We describe nonlinear Galilei-invariant higher-order equations of Burgers and Korteweg-de Vries types. We study symmetry properties of these equations and construct new nonlinear extensions for the Galilei algebra AG(1, 1).     

Wear resistance of cured epoxy-novolac compositions

It has been established that changing the elasticity of rigid crosslinked epoxy-novolac block copolymers changes the friction mechanism and wear characteristics. The optimal conditions for obtaining block copolymers with the greatest wear resistance have been determined. The results of testing epoxy novolacs in neutral and alkaline media are presented.Leningrad Lensovet Technological Institute. The Sura-EISCAT-WIND Experiments: Ionospheric Influence on the Response of a Decameter Interferometer with a Superlong Baseline

Results of the 1999 experiments on receiving radio-frequency signals from the SURA and EISCAT facilities on the WIND spacecraft at 5475 kHz are presented. Power and frequency distortions imposed by near-Earth plasmas on the response of SURA-EISCAT, an active decameter radio interferometer with a superlong baseline of 2000 km, are studied. Quasi-oscillatory variations in the intensity of the received radiation with a period of several tenths of a second and the corresponding maximum in the intensity fluctuation spectrum are observed during synchronized operation of the facilities under both quiet and perturbed geophysical conditions including the occurrence of mid-latitude F spread. Variations in the mean frequency of the spectral line both because of the motion of the spacecraft and the large-scale traveling ionospheric disturbances are detected. The obtained results are compared with the modern theoretical concept of propagation of short radio waves in a randomly irregular ionospheric plasma. The possibility to realize the limiting angular resolution of a ground-based decameter interferometer with a superlong baseline for observations of discrete space radio sources is discussed.
