The aqueous electrochemical behavior of 10 Cr(III) complexes with potentially tri- and hexadentate amino carboxylate ligands is reported and is shown to depend on the composition and spatial arrangement of the donor atom set. Complexes with two amine and four carboxylate donors (N(2)O(4)) and two amine, one aquo, and three carboxylate donors (N(2)O(3)O') in which the N atoms are coordinated cis to one another undergo chemically and electrochemically reversible reduction at ca. -1.4 and ca. -1.2 V vs SCE, respectively. However, complexes with a trans-N(2)O(4) donor atom set, as exemplified by Cr(MIDA)(2)(-) (MIDA(2)(-) = N-methyliminodiacetate), undergo quasi-reversible Cr(III/II) reduction at ca. -1.4 V that is followed by a sequence of reactions which establishes an electrochemical square scheme. The chemical reactions in the scheme involve displacement of a bound carboxylate group following reduction to Cr(II) and its reattachment after reoxidation to Cr(III). This mechanistic sequence is analyzed by digital simulation, and values of formal potentials, transfer coefficients, and chemical and electrochemical rate constants are reported for Cr(MIDA)(2)(-) and its N-ethyl homolog. The difference in electrochemical behavior between cis- and trans-N(2)O(4) complexes is attributed to differences in the Jahn-Teller distortions experienced by these structures upon reduction to Cr(II). It is proposed that simultaneous N-Cr-N bond elongation, which is possible only for trans species, leads to greater strain in the facially coordinated N-alkyliminodiacetate ligand and thus increases the barrier to electron transfer and facilitates Cr-carboxylate bond cleavage after reduction.  相似文献

The production of low-cost cellulase enzyme is a key step in the development of an enzymatic-based process for conversion of lignocellulosic biomass to ethanol. Although abundant information is available on cellulase production, little of this work has examined oxygen transfer. We investigated oxygen transfer during the growth of Trichoderma reesei, a cellulase-producing microorganism, on soluble and insoluble substrates in vessel sizes from 7 to 9000 L. Oxygen uptake rates and volumetric mass transfer coefficients (k La) were determined using mass spectroscopy to measure off gas composition. Experimentally measured k La values were found to compare favorably with a k La correlation available in the literature for a non-Newtonian fermentation broth during the period of heavy cell growth.  相似文献

Two new high-through put techniques, computer tomography X-ray densitometry (CT scan) and pyrolysis molecular beam mass spectrometry (pyMBMS), coupled with quantitative trait loci (QTL) analysis, were tested as a means to overcome the time and cost associated with conventional characterization of biomass feedstock components. Applications of these two techniques were evaluated using hybrid poplar for the CT scan and loblolly pine for the pyMBMS. Segregating progeny from hybrid poplar varied in specific gravity, with individual mean estimates ranging from 0.21–0.41. Progeny from loblolly pine varied in lignin, α cellulose, and mannan contents, with individual mean estimates of lignin content ranging from 28.7–33.1%, α cellulose content from 28.8–43.5% and mannan content from 4.2–10.1%. QTL analysis of the loblolly pine data suggested that eleven QTLs were associated with individual feedstock characteristics and that two QTLs for several feedstock components were linked to the same position on the loblolly pine genetic map. Each QTL individually accounted for 7–13% of the total phenotypic variation in associated loblolly pine feedstock components.  相似文献

We study linear perturbations about a dust filled Bianchi type-I model with the vorticity set to zero. In comparisonto linear perturbations about the Friedmann-Lemaitre Robertson Walker models, modes of perturbations about the Bianchi type-I models are coupled. We find that the tensor that represents the background shear needs to be degenerate in order for the scalar-mode perturbations to decouple from the rest of the flow.  相似文献

The purpose of this work is the formulation of constitutive models for the inelastic material behaviour of single crystals and polycrystals in which geometrically necessary dislocations (GNDs) may develop and influence this behaviour. To this end, we focus on the dependence of the development of such dislocations on the inhomogeneity of the inelastic deformation in the material. More precisely, in the crystal plasticity context, this is a relation between the density of GNDs and the inhomogeneity of inelastic deformation in glide systems. In this work, two models for GND density and its evolution, i.e., a glide-system-based model, and a continuum model, are formulated and investigated. As it turns out, the former of these is consistent with the original two-dimensional GND model of Ashby (Philos. Mag. 21 (1970) 399), and the latter with the more recent model of Dai and Parks (Proceedings of Plasticity ’97, Neat Press, 1997, p. 17). Since both models involve a dependence of the inelastic state of a material point on the (history of the) inhomogeneity of the glide-system inelastic deformation, their incorporation into crystal plasticity modelling necessarily implies a corresponding non-local generalization of this modelling. As it turns out, a natural quantity on which to base such a non-local continuum thermodynamic generalization, i.e., in the context of crystal plasticity, is the glide-system (scalar) slip deformation. In particular, this is accomplished here by treating each such slip deformation as either (1), a generalized “gradient” internal variable, or (2), as a scalar internal degree-of-freedom. Both of these approaches yield a corresponding generalized Ginzburg-Landau- or Cahn-Allen-type field relation for this scalar deformation determined in part by the dependence of the free energy on the dislocation state in the material. In the last part of the work, attention is focused on specific models for the free energy and its dependence on this state. After summarizing and briefly discussing the initial-boundary-value problem resulting from the current approach as well as its algorithmic form suitable for numerical implementation, the work ends with a discussion of additional aspects of the formulation, and in particular the connection of the approach to GND modelling taken here with other approaches.  相似文献

A procedure for identification of malting barley varieties using matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry (MALDI‐TOF MS) of ethanol‐soluble barley proteins (hordeins) is described. The hordeins were first extracted from milled barley grains by several extraction protocols (using different extraction agents and conditions). Hordein extracts were then analyzed directly via MALDI‐TOF MS without any preliminary purification or separation step, and the protein profiles of analyzed hordein extracts were compared in order to find out the most suitable extraction procedure for mass spectrometric analysis. The optimized procedure was successfully applied to identification of 13 malting barley varieties. Our results revealed that the proposed mass spectrometry‐based approach provides characteristic mass patterns of extracted hordeins, which can be advantageously used for barley variety identification. A sensitive micellar electrokinetic chromatography (MEKC) method was developed for the separation and determination of four closely related lantibiotics: gallidermin, cinnamycin, duramycin and nisin. Factors affecting the separation of the lantibiotics such as pH, phosphate buffer concentration, SDS concentration and wavelength for UV detection were investigated. By optimizing these experimental conditions, successful separation was achieved between class 1A lantibiotics (nisin and gallidermin) and class 1B lantibiotics (duramycin and cinnamycin). The four lantibiotics were separated within 12 min in 50 mM phosphate buffer at pH 3.95 ± 0.1 containing 80 mM SDS with UV detection of 214 nm. The LOD (S/N = 3) were 61 ng/mL for gallidermin, 57 ng/mL for cinnamycin, 55 ng/mL for duramycin and 58 ng/mL for nisin. The method was successfully applied to real samples such as fermentation broth, bovine colostrum and predrop beer. This method yielded satisfactory results, with quantitative recoveries of spiked lantibiotics in the three samples ranging from 86.1 to 99.6%.  相似文献

An interrupted noise exposure of sufficient intensity, presented on a daily repeating cycle, produces a threshold shift (TS) following the first day of exposure. TSs measured on subsequent days of the exposure sequence have been shown to decrease relative to the initial TS. This reduction of TS, despite the continuing daily exposure regime, has been called a cochlear toughening effect and the exposures referred to as toughening exposures. Four groups of chinchillas were exposed to one of four different noises presented on an interrupted (6 h/day for 20 days) or noninterrupted (24 h/day for 5 days) schedule. The exposures had equivalent total energy, an overall level of 100 dB(A) SPL, and approximately the same flat, broadband long-term spectrum. The noises differed primarily in their temporal structures; two were Gaussian and two were non-Gausssian, nonstationary. Brainstem auditory evoked potentials were used to estimate hearing thresholds and surface preparation histology was used to determine sensory cell loss. The experimental results presented here show that: (1) Exposures to interrupted high-level, non-Gaussian signals produce a toughening effect comparable to that produced by an equivalent interrupted Gaussian noise. (2) Toughening, whether produced by Gaussian or non-Gaussian noise, results in reduced trauma compared to the equivalent uninterrupted noise, and (3) that both continuous and interrupted non-Gaussian exposures produce more trauma than do energy and spectrally equivalent Gaussian noises. Over the course of the 20-day exposure, the pattern of TS following each day's exposure could exhibit a variety of configurations. These results do not support the equal energy hypothesis as a unifying principal for estimating the potential of a noise exposure to produce hearing loss.  相似文献
