We evidence numerically and experimentally that advection can induce spectrotemporal defects in a system presenting a localized structure. Those defects in the spectrum are associated with the breakings induced by the drift of the localized solution. The results are based on simulations and experiments performed on the super-ACO free-electron laser. However, we show that this instability can be generalized using a real Ginzburg-Landau equation with (i) advection and (ii) a finite-size supercritical region.  相似文献

We propose a feedback technique for obtaining stable mode-locked operation in lasers that would normally exhibit Q switching. Using the Haus model with population dynamics, we examine numerically the case in which the intensity is monitored by a slow detector and fed back to the pump power after electronic derivation. This approach allows elimination of Q switching in all situations considered, in particular, in lasers with a long upper-state lifetime.  相似文献

We show that thermal effects can lead to periodic mode hopping in cw optical parametric oscillators (OPOs). This mode hopping may occur as soon as two modes have different intensities at the point where they exchange their stability; this condition is easily fulfilled in OPOs that are triply resonant, or doubly resonant with a weakly resonant pump. We have observed such oscillations experimentally in a type II OPO in both configurations. A simple thermo-optic multimode model reproduces well the experimental regimes. We expect that multimode instabilities based on this mechanism can be observed with various aspects in many experimental setups at high pumping rate.  相似文献

Novel rod–coil–rod ABA triblock copolymers, poly(3‐hexylthiophene)‐block‐poly(ethylene)‐block‐poly(3‐hexylthiophene) (P3HT‐b‐PE‐b‐P3HT) were synthesized by using a combination of a Ru‐catalyzed ring‐opening metathesis polymerization of 1,4‐cyclooctadiene in the presence of a suitable chain transfer agent (CTA) and a Ni‐catalyzed Grignard metathesis polymerization of 5‐chloromagnesio‐2‐bromo‐3‐hexylthiophene followed by hydrogenation. Using this methodology, the molecular weights of the poly(butadiene) (PBD) or the P3HT blocks were controlled by adjusting the initial monomer/CTA or the initial monomer/macroinitiator ratio, respectively. In addition, the triblock structure was confirmed by selective oxidative degradation of the PBD block found in the intermediate P3HT‐b‐PBD‐b‐P3HT copolymer produced in the aforementioned method, followed by analysis of the degradation products. Thermal analysis and atomic force microscopy of P3HT‐b‐PE‐b‐P3HT revealed that the material underwent phase separation in the solid state, a feature which may prove useful for improving charge mobilities within electronic devices. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We give a positive answer to the Berry-Robbins problem for any compact Lie group G, i.e. we show the existence of a smooth W-equivariant map from the space of regular triples in a Cartan subalgebra to the flag manifold G/T . This map is constructed via solutions to Nahm's equations and it is compatible with the S O(3) action, where S O(3) acts on G/T via a regular homomorphism from S U(2) to G. We then generalize this picture to include an arbitrary homomorphism from S U(2) to G. This leads to an interesting geometrical picture which appears to be related to the Springer representation of the Weyl group and the work of Kazhdan and Lusztig on representations of Hecke algebras. Poly[1-(trimethylsilyl)-1-propyne] (PTMSP) has been crosslinked using 3,3′-diazidodiphenylsulfone to improve its solvent resistance and physical stability. This study reports the influence of crosslinking on N2, O2 and CH4 gas permeabilities and fractional free volume (FFV) as a function of time. Crosslinking PTMSP renders it insoluble even in excellent solvents for the uncrosslinked polymer. The gas permeability and FFV of uncrosslinked and crosslinked PTMSP decreased over time, so crosslinking PTMSP does not arrest physical aging. The addition of 10 wt.% polysiloxysilsesquioxanes (POSS) nanoparticles decreased the permeability of PTMSP by 55%, and the permeability and FFV values were stable over time for PTMSP films containing 10 wt.% POSS nanoparticles. The permeability of PTMSP at a given FFV was greater than that of other substituted polyacetylenes, polysulfones or polycarbonates, which is consistent with differences in the arrangement of free volume in these polymers, as probed by positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy (PALS). Ellipsometry was used to characterize physical aging of thin (400 nm) uncrosslinked and crosslinked PTMSP films supported on silicon wafers. The ellipsometry results showed that crosslinking does not markedly slow physical aging of thin PTMSP films.  相似文献
