Consider a graph obtained by taking an edge disjoint union of k complete bipartite graphs. Alon, Saks, and Seymour conjectured that such graphs have chromatic number at most k+1. This well known conjecture remained open for almost twenty years. In this paper, we construct a counterexample to this conjecture and discuss several related problems in combinatorial geometry and communication complexity.  相似文献

In the present studies, a simple rapid ultra performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) method with UV detection for the simultaneous determination of cortisol, cortisone and 6β-hydroxycortisol in human urine was developed. The three analytes and the internal standard dexamethasone were separated on a Waters Acquity UPLC-Tunable UV system with an Acquity UPLC BEH C18 column (50 × 2.1 mm ID, 1.7 μm) using a gradient elution of methanol and water (containing 0.01% formic acid) with a run time of 7 min. The method was accurate and precise, over the ranges of 5–200 ng mL−1 for cortisol, and 10–1,000 ng mL−1 for both cortisone and 6β-hydroxycortisol, and showed good linearity (r 2 > 0.999). This method was applied for the measurement of cortisol, cortisone and 6β-hydroxycortisol in samples collected over different periods as a tool to assess the activity of CYP3A and 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 2 enzymes.

Bio-derived materials could play an important role in future sustainable green and health technologies. This work reports the synthesis of a unique egg white-based bio-derived material showing excellent stiffness and ductility by polymerizing it with primary amine-based chemical compounds to form strong covalent bonds. As shown by both experiments and theoretical simulations, the amine-based molecules introduce strong bonds between amine ends and carboxylic ends of albumen amino acids resulting in an elastic modulus of ~4 GPa, a fracture strength of ~2 MPa and a high ductility of 40%. The distributed and interconnected network of interfaces between the hard albumen and the soft amine compounds gives the structure its unique combination of high stiffness and plasticity. A range of in-situ local and bulk mechanical tests as well as molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, reveal a significant interfacial stretching during deformation and a micro-crack diversion leading to an increased in ductility and toughness. The structure also shows a self-stiffening behavior under dynamic loading and a strength-induced aging suggesting adaptive mechanical behavior. This egg white-derived material could also be developed for bio-compatible and bio-medical applications.  相似文献

A new algorithm is presented for finding the global minimum, and other low-lying minima, of a potential energy surface (PES) of biological molecules. The algorithm synergetically combines three well-known global optimization methods: the diffusion equation method (DEM), which involves smoothing the PES; a simulated annealing (SA) algorithm; and evolutionary programming (EP), whose population-oriented approach allows for a parallel search over different regions of the PES. Tests on five peptides having between 6 and 9 residues show that the code implementing the new combined algorithm is efficient and is found to outperform the constituent methods, DEM and SA. Results of the algorithm, in the gas phase and with the GBSA implicit solvent model, are compared with crystallographic data for the test peptides; good accord is found in all cases. Also, for all but one of the examples, our hybrid algorithm finds a minimum deeper than those obtained by a very extensive scan. TINKERs implementation of the OPLS-AA force field is employed for the structure prediction. The results show that the new algorithm is a powerful structure predictor, when a reliable potential function is available. Our implementation of the algorithm is time-efficient, and requires only modest computational resources. Work is underway on applications of the new algorithm to structural prediction of proteins and other biological macro-molecules.  相似文献

A series of cyanide-bridged complexes that combine a low-valent photoacceptor rhenium(I) metal center with an electroactive midvalent rhenium(V) complex were prepared. The synthesis involved the preparation of novel asymmetric rhenium(V) oxo compounds, cis-Re(V)O(CN)(acac(2)en) (1) and cis-Re(V)O(CN)(acac(2)pn) (2), formed by reacting trans-[Re(V)O(OH(2))(acac(2)en)]Cl or trans-Re(V)O(acac(2)pn)Cl with [NBu(4)][CN]. The μ-bridged cyanide mixed-oxidation Re(V)-Re(I) complexes were prepared by incubating the asymmetric complexes, 1 or 2, with fac-[Re(I)(bipy)(CO)(3)][OTf] to yield cis-[Re(V)O(acac(2)en)(μ-CN-1κC:2κN)-fac-Re(I)(bipy)(CO)(3)][PF(6)] (3) and [cis-Re(V)O(acac(2)pn)(μ-CN-1κC:2κN)-fac-Re(I)(bipy)(CO)(3)][PF(6)] (4), respectively.  相似文献

A reliable and sensitive method for determination simultaneously of monomethylmercury (MeHg) and monoethylmercury (EtHg) in various types of foods by gas chromatography inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (GC-ICP/MS) was developed and validated. Samples were digested with pancreatin and then hydrochloric acid. MeHg and EtHg in the extract were derivatized in an aqueous buffer with sodium tetraphenylborate. After phase separation, the extract was directly transferred to analysis. The analyses were conducted by GC-ICP/MS with monopropylmercury chloride (PrHgCl) as surrogate standard. Concentrations of 254±5.1, 13.7±0.69 and 162±6.2 μg Hg kg(-1) (one standard deviation, n=3) were obtained for MeHg in NIST SRM 1947 (Superior Lake fish), SRM 1566b (oyster tissue) and NRC Tort-2 (lobster Hepatopancreas), respectively. These are in good agreement with the certified values of 233±10, 13.2±0.7 and 152±13 μg Hg kg(-1) (as 95% confidence interval), respectively. The method detection limits (3σ) for MeHg and EtHg are 0.3 μg Hg kg(-1). The method detection limit was estimated by using a 0.5 g of subsample, sufficiently low for the risk assessment of MeHg and EtHg in foods. The spiked recoveries of MeHg and EtHg in different food matrices were between 87 and 117% and the RSDs were less than 15%. When isotopic dilution mass spectrometry (IDMS) analysis was performed with a commercial available (201)Hg-enriched monomethylmercury (Me(201)Hg) solution as internal standard, concentrations of 244±13.4, 13.9±0.25 and 161±1.3 μg Hg kg(-1) were obtained for MeHg in NIST SRM 1947, SRM 1566b and NRC Tort-2, respectively. It shown clearly that IDMS analysis got improvement in precision and accuracy, however, EtHg cannot be analyze simultaneously and the cost of analysis is higher.  相似文献
