Syntheses and magnetic properties of Cr2Te3 and CuCr2Te4 nanocrystals

The Cr-based tellurides are attractive material systems for fundamental studies and potential applications. Colloidal syntheses of ferromagnetic Cr(2)Te(3) and CuCr(2)Te(4) nanocrystals with uniform morphology and narrow size distribution are reported together with their detailed magnetic characterisation.     

Syntheses, spectroscopies and structures of molybdenum(VI) complexes with homocitrate

Initial investigations into the possible role of homocitric acid in iron molybdenum cofactor (FeMo-co) of nitrogenase lead us to isolate and characterize two tetrameric molybdate(VI) species. The complexes K2(NH4)2[(MoO2)4O3(R,S-Hhomocit)2].6H2O (1) and K5[(MoO2)4O3(R,S-Hhomocit)2]Cl.5H2O (2) (homocitric acid = H4homocit, C7H10O7) are prepared from the reactions of acyclic homocitric acid and molybdates, which represent the first synthetic structural examples of molybdenum homocitrate complexes. The homocitrate ligand trapped by tetranuclear molybdate coordinates to the molybdenum(VI) atom through alpha-alkoxy and alpha-, beta-carboxy groups. The physical properties, structural parameters, and their possible biological relevances are discussed.     

Near-surface structural phase transition of SrTiO3 studied with zero-field beta-detected nuclear spin relaxation and resonance

We demonstrate that zero-field beta-detected nuclear quadrupole resonance and spin relaxation of low energy (8)Li can be used as a sensitive local probe of structural phase transitions near a surface. We find that the transition near the surface of a SrTiO(3) single crystal occurs at T(c) approximately 150K, i.e., approximately 45K higher than T(c)bulk, and that the tetragonal domains formed below T(c) are randomly oriented.     

Single-longitudinal-mode erbium-doped fiber laser with novel scheme utilizing fiber Bragg grating inside ring cavity

In this paper, we experimentally investigate a single-longitudinal-mode (SLM) S-band erbiumdoped fiber (EDF) laser with dualring scheme using a S-band fiber Bragg grating (FBG) inside the gain cavity to restrict the lasing mode. The proposed laser is constructed by two-ring cavities serving as the mode filters. The FBG inside the proposed laser scheme can retrieve the SLM operation. Moreover, the output performance of the proposed fiber laser is also analyzed and discussed.     

Tensor correlations measured in 3He(e,e' pp)n

We have measured the 3He(e,e' pp)n reaction at an incident energy of 4.7 GeV over a wide kinematic range. We identified spectator correlated pp and pn nucleon pairs by using kinematic cuts and measured their relative and total momentum distributions. This is the first measurement of the ratio of pp to pn pairs as a function of pair total momentum p(tot). For pair relative momenta between 0.3 and 0.5 GeV/c, the ratio is very small at low p(tot) and rises to approximately 0.5 at large p(tot). This shows the dominance of tensor over central correlations at this relative momentum.     

A Gradient Estimate for the Ricci–Kähler Flow

We show that for a complete solution to theRicci–Kähler flow where the curvature, the potential andscalar curvature functions and their gradients are bounded depending ontime, the absolute value of both the scalar curvature and the gradientsquared of a modified potential function are bounded byC/t.     

Anisotropic capillary surfaces with wetting energy

We study the stability of capillary surfaces for anisotropic energies having boundaries supported in horizontal planes. A wetting energy term for the surface to plane interface is included.
