We describe complex variations in resistance of a Co/Cu multilayer, generated by injection of an adjustable dc current density ( approximately 10(9) A/cm(2)) via a point contact. We attribute these variations to coupling of current-induced spin waves to lattice vibrations, leading especially to current-driven resonant excitations of phonons. We propose a simple model to explain the observed structured behavior of the variations as a function of the applied current and magnetic field. 相似文献

We present measurements on the trapping of 0-3 eV electrons in H2O ice films covered with a submonolayer of N2 molecules. At the energy of the N-2((2)Pi(g)) shape resonance, the absolute cross section for electron trapping in ice is approximately 5.5 x 10(-16) cm(2), similar to that for vibrational excitations of gaseous N2 via the resonance. This result, indicating that nearly all electrons from autoionization of N-2((2)Pi(g)) are transferred to electron traps in ice, is explained by superinelastic electron transfer from N-2((2)Pi(g)) into preexisting traps in polar ice, leaving N2 in high vibrational excited states. 相似文献

We discuss different sources of hadron correlations in relativistic heavy ion collisions. We show that correlations among partons in a quasithermal medium can lead to the correlated emission of hadrons by quark recombination and argue that this mechanism offers a plausible explanation for the dihadron correlations in the few GeV/c momentum range observed in Au+Au collisions at the BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. 相似文献

Brillouin and Raman spectroscopy were performed on B2O3 glass compressed to 57 GPa at 273 K. Upon compression the sound velocities increase smoothly and the boroxol ring Raman mode vanishes by 11 GPa. Upon decompression the sound velocities follow a different path and at 3 GPa a discontinuity of 3 km/s in V(p) and 2 km/s in V(s) returns the velocities to the values seen on compression. After the transition, the boroxol ring Raman mode reappears. A second pressure cycle produces the same behavior, suggesting the 3 GPa transition occurs between vitreous polymorphs with different boron coordination. 相似文献

We calculate the net-baryon rapidity distribution in Au+Au collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) in the framework of the parton cascade model (PCM). Parton rescattering and fragmentation leads to a substantial increase in the net-baryon density at midrapidity over the density produced by initial primary parton-parton scatterings. The segregation of concurrent vocal signals is an auditory processing task faced by all vocal species. To segregate concurrent signals, the auditory system must encode the spectral and temporal features of the fused waveforms such that at least one signal can be individually detected. In the plainfin midshipman fish (Porichthys notatus), the overlapping mate calls of neighboring males produce acoustic beats with amplitude and phase modulations at the difference frequencies (dF) between spectral components. Prior studies in midshipman have shown that midbrain neurons provide a combinatorial code of the temporal and spectral characteristics of beats via synchronization of spike bursts to dF and changes in spike rate and interspike intervals with changes in spectral composition. In the present study we examine the effects of changes in signal parameters of beats (overall intensity level and depth of modulation) on the spike train outputs of midbrain neurons. The observed changes in spike train parameters further support the hypothesis that midbrain neurons provide a combinatorial code of the spectral and temporal features of concurrent vocal signals. 相似文献
