The chemical modification of Plantago psyllium mucilage (Psy), an anionic polysaccharide, was done by grafting polyacrylamide (PAM) chains to prepare a graft-copolymer (Psy-g-PAM). It was synthesized in the presence of nitrogen using ceric ammonium nitrate–nitric acid redox initiator and characterized by IR spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and viscosity measurements. This grafted copolymer was tested for its flocculation efficiency in textile wastewater by the standard Jar test method. The effects of polymer concentration, pH and contact time on the percentage removal of solid wastes [total dissolved solids (TDS) and suspended solids (SS)] and color from textile effluent are reported. The optimum dose was found to be 1.6 mg l–1, at which maximum solid removal (SS and TDS) was seen. The most suitable pH for TDS and color removal was neutral (7.0) and for SS removal alkaline pH (9.2) was found to be most suitable. The optimum treatment duration for solid waste removal was 5 h. The X-ray diffraction analysis of Psy-g-PAM and solid waste before and after treatment suggests the interaction of the solid waste and Psy-g-PAM copolymer. 相似文献

We report the measurement of coherence characteristics of light-emitting diodes (LEDs). Experiments were performed using red and green color LEDs directly illuminating the Young's double slit kept in the far-zone. Fourier transform fringe analysis technique was used for the measurement of the visibility of interference fringes from which the modulus of degree of spectral coherence was determined. Low degree of spectral coherence, typically 0.4 for red and 0.2 for green LED with double-slit separation of 400 μm was observed. A variable slit was then kept in front of the LEDs and the double slit was illuminated with the light coming out of the slit. Experiments were performed with various slit sizes and the visibility of the interference fringes was observed. It was found that visibility of the interference fringes changes drastically in presence of variable slit kept in front of LEDs and a high degree of spectral coherence, typically 0.85 for red and 0.8 for green LED with double-slit separation of 400 μm and rectangular slit opening of 500 μm was observed. The experimental results are compared with the theoretical counterparts. Coherence lengths of both the LEDs were also determined and it was obtained 5.8±2 and 24±4 μm for green and red LEDs, respectively. 相似文献

A large number of crystal forms, polymorphs and pseudopolymorphs, have been isolated in the phloroglucinol‐dipyridylethylene (PGL:DPE) and phloroglucinol‐phenazine (PGL:PHE) systems. An understanding of the intermolecular interactions and synthon preferences in these binary systems enables one to design a ternary molecular solid that consists of PGL, PHE, and DPE, and also others where DPE is replaced by other heterocycles. Clean isolation of these ternary cocrystals demonstrates synthon amplification during crystallization. These results point to the lesser likelihood of polymorphism in multicomponent crystals compared to single‐component crystals. The appearance of several crystal forms during crystallization of a multicomponent system can be viewed as combinatorial crystal synthesis with synthon selection from a solution library. The resulting polymorphs and pseudopolymorphs that are obtained constitute a crystal structure landscape. 相似文献

The asymmetric organocatalytic α-sulfenylation of substituted piperazine-2,5-diones is reported, with cinchona alkaloids as chiral Lewis bases and electrophilic sulfur transfer reagents. In this paper, multilayer structures of porous silicon were fabricated by using electrochemical etching and characterized for its optical properties and surface morphology. Samples of monolayer of porous silicon were grown to study the characteristics of porous layer formation with respect to applied current density, etching time and hydrofluoric acid concentrations. Photoluminescence peaks of red emission at wavelength 695 and 650 nm were observed from multilayer porous silicon structures. We revisit the well-known topics of self- and induced-screening in an otherwise isotropic neutral plasma/colloid. It is pointed out that the standard Debye-Hückel (DH) theory (ignoring finite size effects) suffers from many ambiguities related to net ionic numbers, total charge of the system, role of the electrostatic Gauss law, short-distance behaviour of the potential and incorrectly normalized pair correlation functions. We give a new formulation (incorporating finite size effects) such that ionic numbers are maintained, the total charge of the system has physically correct value, the Gauss law boundary conditions are rigorously obeyed, short-distance behaviour of the potential is guaranteed automatically, and correlation functions are correctly normalized. Numerical differences between the two approaches show up if the screening length μ−1 becomes comparable to the size R of the system. 相似文献
