Spectral editing in solid-state MAS NMR of quadrupolar nuclei using selective satellite inversion

A sensitivity enhancement method based on selective adiabatic inversion of a satellite transition has been employed in a (pi/2)CT-(pi)ST1-(pi/2)CT spectral editing sequence to both enhance and resolve multisite NMR spectra of quadrupolar nuclei. In addition to a total enhancement of 2.5 times for spin 3/2 nuclei, enhancements up to 2.0 times is reported for the edited sites in a mixture of rubidium salts.     

Sets of uniqueness for spherically convergent multiple trigonometric series

A subset of the -dimensional torus is called a set of uniqueness, or -set, if every multiple trigonometric series spherically converging to outside vanishes identically. We show that all countable sets are -sets and also that sets are -sets for every . In particular, , where is the Cantor set, is an set and hence a -set. We will say that is a -set if every multiple trigonometric series spherically Abel summable to outside and having certain growth restrictions on its coefficients vanishes identically. The above-mentioned results hold also for sets. In addition, every -set has measure , and a countable union of closed -sets is a -set.

     

Log-normal distribution of pulse amplitudes due to Raman cross talk in wavelength division multiplexing soliton transmission

The effect of delayed Raman response on soliton collisions in wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) transmission systems is investigated. Taking into account the stochastic nature of pulse sequences in different frequency channels and the Raman-induced cross talk, it is shown that the soliton amplitude is a random variable with a log-normal distribution. Moreover, the Raman-induced self-frequency shift and cross-frequency shift are also random variables with log-normal-like distributions. These results imply that fluctuations in soliton amplitude and frequency induced by soliton collisions in the presence of delayed Raman response play an important role in massive WDM transmission.
