Currently popular search strategies for supersymmetric particles may be significantly affected due to relatively light sneutrinos which decay dominantly into invisible channels. In certain cases the second lightest neutralino may also decay invisibly leading to two extra carriers of missing energy (in addition to the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) ) — the virtual LSPs (VLSPs). A tree lavel calculation shows that if the sneutrino mass happens to be in the small but experimentally allowed range (m ≈ν ≈ 45–55 GeV), these particles together with neutralino pairs may contribute significantly to the missing energy in the process e+e? → γ+ E at LEP-2 energies as an enhancement over the Standard Model or the conventional MSSM predictions. It is further shown that a much larger region of the parameter space can be scanned at a high luminosity e+e? collider at 500 GeV like the proposed NLC machine. Moreover, at both LEP-2 and NLC this process may play a complementary role to direct chargino searches, which may fail due to a near mass degeneracy of the chargino and the sneutrino. Formulae for the cross sections taking into account full mixings of the charginos and the neutralinos are derived. The signal remains observable even in the context of more restricted models based onN=1 SUGRA with common scalar and gaugino masses. A preliminary study of the QED radiative corrections due to soft multiple photon emission as well as hard collinear bremsstrahlung indicates that these corrections play a crucial role in estimating the background.  相似文献

We have measured the elastic properties of a glass at audiofrequencies (0.2–1.5 kHz) in the temperature interval 0.01 to 10 K. In the superducting glassy metal Cu60Zr40 (Tc=0.31 K) both the sound velocity and attenuation are similar to that of an insulating glass below 0.05 K. Above that temperature (Tc>T>0.05 K) the relaxation process is mainly governed by electrons which are thermally excited above the BCS gap. Above the superconducting transition we observed new features in the sound velocity which were not observed in high frequency measurements.  相似文献

There are numerous theories that offer cognitive processes of students of mathematics, all documenting various ways to describe knowledge acquisition leading to successful transitions from one stage to another, be it characterized by Dubinsky's encapsulation, Sfard's reification or Piaget's equilibration. We however are interested in the following question. Who succeeds at making the leap and can we describe the attributes that set them apart from the ones that do not? This paper presents the first scientific investigation on the musical pillars of the Vitthala Temple at Hampi, India. The solid stone columns in these pillars produce audible sound, when struck with a finger. Systematic investigations on the acoustic characteristics of the musical pillars of mahamandapam (great stage) of the Vitthala Temple have been carried out. The 11 most popular pillars that produce sounds of specific musical instruments are considered for the investigations. The sound produced from these 11 most popular musical pillars was recorded systematically and different nondestructive testing techniques such as low frequency ultrasonic testing, impact echo testing, and in situ metallography were employed on the musical columns of these pillars. The peak frequencies in the amplitude spectrum of the sound produced from various columns in these pillars are correlated with the dimensional measurements and ultrasonic velocity determined using impact echo technique. The peak frequencies obtained experimentally have been found to have excellent correlation with the calculated flexural frequencies based on the dimensional measurements and ultrasonic velocities of the columns.  相似文献
