Photoelectron Angular Distributions (PADs) resulting from nonperturbative excitation of potassium atoms using shaped femtosecond laser pulses are presented. We study control exerted by (1) the polarization of an unshaped, i.e., a bandwidth-limited light pulse, (2) shaped linearly polarized light, and (3) a combination of both degrees of freedom, i.e., polarization-shaped laser pulses. A theoretical approach to describe PADs from nonperturbative Resonance Enhanced Multi-Photon Ionization (REMPI) with ultrashort polarization-shaped laser pulses is presented and compared to experimental results. Applications of this technique to the generation and observation of atomic ring currents are discussed.  相似文献

Fe/Ce multilayers are magnetically soft with coercive fields of a few Oersteds. In this artificial system, the itinerant 5d electrons of Ce are magnetically polarized by hybridization with the spin–split 3d states of Fe. To obtain an insight into the magnetization reversal process, the element selectivity of X-ray magnetic circular dichroism was used to measure the magnetization of the Ce-5d electrons as a function of an applied magnetic field. Comparison with the magnetization curves studied by the magneto-optic Kerr effect, which averages over the whole system, revealed that the coercivity in the hysteresis of the ordered Ce-5d moments is reduced by 50%. We propose that this is an effect of the magnetically disturbed interface or of the complex non-collinear magnetic structure of the Ce layers detected by recent experiments of X-ray resonant magnetic scattering. The results are compared to the X-ray dichroic and Kerr hysteresis loops of the multilayers Fe/La/Ce/La and Fe/CeH2−δ. These systems are magnetically harder and their coercivities are identical.  相似文献

The fine structure of the ground state exciton has been studied by magnetophotoluminescence spectroscopy of self-assembled In0.60Ga0.40As single quantum dots. This was realized by using lithography for fabricating mesa structures which contain only a single dot. Due to a dot geometry-induced symmetry breaking we are able to observe the dark exciton states in magnetic field besides the bright excitons. From the spin-splitting data values for the corresponding exciton g-factors are obtained. In addition, the electron–hole exchange energies are determined, which are compared to detailed numerical calculations.  相似文献

We numerically calculate the collective amide I oscillations and the associated linear and two-dimensional infrared (2DIR) spectra for model antiparallel beta-sheets and study the effect of inhomogeneity. To visualize the collective vibrational exciton states, a new method is introduced, which proves very useful in classifying the optically dominant states with respect to their symmetry properties and phase relations, even in the absence of exact symmetries. We find that energy (diagonal) and interaction (off-diagonal) disorder may have profoundly different effects on the main peaks in the linear spectrum. We also show that in the 2DIR spectra energy disorder leads to diagonal stretching of the diagonal peaks, while the cross-peaks are typically stretched more horizontally. This offers an explanation for the recently observed overall Z-shape in experimental spectra. Finally, we find that the anharmonic splitting between associated positive and negative features in the 2DIR spectra scales inversely proportionally with the exciton delocalization size imposed by the disorder, thus offering a spectroscopic ruler for this size.  相似文献

While the in vitro selection of nucleic acid binding species (aptamers) requires numerous liquid-handling steps, these steps are relatively straightforward and the overall process is therefore amenable to automation. Here we demonstrate that automated selection techniques are capable of generating aptamers against a number of diverse protein targets. Automated selection techniques can be integrated with automated analytical methods, including sequencing, determination of binding constants, and structural analysis. The methods that have so far been developed can be further multiplexed, and it should soon be possible to attempt the selection of aptamers against organismal proteomes or metabolomes.  相似文献
