Rhenium and molybdenum poorly crystalline disulfides and their mesophases with hexadecylamine

Sulfides of molybdenum and rhenium poorly crystalline were prepared by solvothermal oxidative decarbonylation of the respective metal carbonyls with sulfur using p-xylene as solvent. The same reaction, but in presence of hexadecylamine (HDA), was used for preparing the nanocomposites MoS₂/HDA and ReS₂/HDA. The products were analyzed by X-ray diffraction analysis, scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. The products, MoS₂ and ReS₂, are structurally similar but morphologically different: small undefined particles (150–300 nm) and well-defined, almost perfect microspheres (0.4–2.8 μm), respectively. Preparations containing HDA lead to the corresponding layered nanocomposites. MoS₂/HDA is a dark solid easily separable from the reaction mixture, while ReS₂/HDA remains as a suspension in p-xylene, from which it is obtained by evaporating the solvent under vacuum. Both are layered species with basal spacing of 33.8?Å (Mo) and 30.4?Å (Re), respectively. The preparation of thin films of ReS₂/HDA from its suspension by evaporating the solvent in the air produces small cylindrical particles of about 0.4 × 1.0 μm in size. Differences in the behavior of Mo and Re derivatives are discussed considering the coordination of the metal and the electronic structures of both metal disulfides.     

On the classification of linear complementary dual codes

We give a complete classification of binary linear complementary dual codes of lengths up to 13 and ternary linear complementary dual codes of lengths up to 10.     

The Regioselective Bromination of 4,4-Dimethyl-5,8-Dihydroxy-4H-Naphthalen-1-One

Methods for the regioselective bromination of the title naphthalenone are described, which lead to isomeric hydroquinones 5 or 6.     

On the Left Perpendicular Category of the Modules of Finite Projective Dimension

In this article, we characterize several properties of commutative noetherian local rings in terms of the left perpendicular category of the category of finitely generated modules of finite projective dimension. As an application, we prove that a local ring is regular if (and only if) there exists a strong test module for projectivity having finite projective dimension. We also obtain corresponding results with respect to a semidualizing module.     

Synthesis of the metabolites of 4-(2-methyl-1H-imidazol-1-yl)-2,2-diphenylbutanamide (KRP-197/ONO-8025)

We synthesized the six presumed metabolites (2--7) of 4-(2-methyl-1H-imidazol-1-yl)-2,2-diphenylbutanamide [KRP-197/ONO-8025, 1], a urinary incontinence therapeutic agent, in order to confirm the structures of the metabolites. Metabolite (2) was synthesized via glucuronidaion of compound (1) and methyl 2,3,4-tri-O-benzoyl-1-methanesulfonyl-alpha-D-glucopyranuronate. Metabolite (3) was synthesized via 3-(tert-butoxycarbonyl)-2-methyl-1,3-imidazolidine-4,5-dione. Metabolites (4--7) were synthesized via 4-amino-2-diphenylbutanamide, respectively. The structures of the metabolites (2--7) in humans were identified by means of synthesis of the authentic compounds.

Although numerous investigations on the chemistry of organic sulfenamides, for example, studies on the S–N torsional barrier,¹ the electronic nature of the S–N bond² and some nucleophilic substitutions on sulfur or nitrogen atom³ have been known, no example of nucleophilic substitution on arylcarbon of aromatic sulfenamides has been reported.
