The magnetic susceptibility (κRT) and saturation magnetization (MS) of microbially synthesized magnetites were systematically examined. Transition metal (Cr, Mn, Co, Ni and Zn)- and lanthanide (Nd, Gd, Tb, Ho and Er)-substituted magnetites were microbially synthesized by the incubation of transition metal (TM)- and lanthanide (L)-mixed magnetite precursors with either thermophilic (TOR-39) or psychrotolerant (PV-4) metal-reducing bacteria (MRB). Zinc incorporated congruently into both the precursor and substituted magnetite, while Ni and Er predominantly did not. Microbially synthesized Mn- and Zn-substituted magnetites had higher κRT than pure biomagnetite depending on bacterial species and they exhibited a maximum κRT at 0.2 cationic mole fraction (CMF). Other TMs’ substitution linearly decreased the κRT with increasing substitution amount. Based on the MS values of TM- and L-substituted magnetite at 0.1 and 0.02 CMF, respectively, Zn (90.7 emu/g for TOR-39 and 93.2 emu/g for PV-4)- and Mn (88.3 emu/g by PV-4)-substituted magnetite exhibited higher MS than standard chemical magnetite (84.7 emu/g) or pure biomagnetite without metal substitution (76.6 emu/g for TOR-39 and 80.3 emu/g for PV-4). Lanthanides tended to decrease MS, with Gd- and Ho-substituted magnetites having the highest magnetization. The higher magnetization of microbially synthesized TM-substituted magnetites by the psychrotroph, PV-4 may be explained by the magnetite formation taking place at low temperatures slowing mechanics, which may alter the magnetic properties compared to the thermophile, through suppression of the random distribution of substituted cations. 相似文献

We report the identification of six new superdeformed (SD) bands in 197,198Pb observed with the EUROBALL IV spectrometer. The results are interpreted in the framework of cranked Hartree-Fock calculations
with approximate projection on the particle number by means of the Lipkin-Nogami method. A mixing between quasi-particle excitations
and an octupole vibration is suggested in the two SD isotopes. We have estimated the ordering of the neutron valence orbitals
and confirm indirectly a N = 118 SD gap.

Abstract The scattering of light by elementar excitations in the matter is results in two phenomena, discriminated by the zero wavevector frequency of the excitation: if this frequency is zero, one deals with Brillouin scattering, and with Raman scattering in the other case. Brillouin scattering results from the interaction of light with thermal excitations (acoustic phonons in a crystal) of a material, or, from a classical point of view, with density waves. Contrary to Raman scattering, the selection rules allow always the observation of at least one mode. It is a powerful technic in the study of rare gases under pressure: at ambient temperature, rare gases crystallize in the face centered cubic structure (except helium which structure was recently found to be hexagonal) and are therefore Raman and infrared inactive. Experimental results will be reviewed on rare gases and rare gas mixtures in the fluid phase, like He-Ne and He-H2. These results will be discussed in relation with recent measurements of the frequency of global oscillations of Jupiter. 相似文献

The absorption and fluorescence spectra of carbaryl (CB), carbofuran (CF) and carbendazim (MBC) have been studied. Fluorescence lifetime and fluorescence quantum yields are also reported as well as the influence of pH, solvent and presence of humic acids on fluorescence. The limit of detection (LD) of the three compounds has been measured by direct analysis by laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) using a pulsed YAG laser with an Optical Parametric Oscillator (OPO) as excitation source and an Intensified Charged Coupled Device (ICCD) camera for the fluorescence detection. Instrumental LD found for CB, for MBC and for CF are respectively 4, 50 and 1000 ng L−1. In tap water, the LD obtained is 800 ng L−1 for MBC and 20,000 ng L−1 for CF. For CB, the use of a time shift between excitation and emission allows to reach a LD of 20 ng L−1 in tap water. 相似文献

Two random-walk related problems which have been studied independently in the past, the expected maximum of a random walker
in one dimension and the flux to a spherical trap of particles undergoing discrete jumps in three dimensions, are shown to
be closely related to each other and are studied using a unified approach as a solution to a Wiener-Hopf problem. For the
flux problem, this work shows that a constant c = 0.29795219 which appeared in the context of the boundary extrapolation length, and was previously found only numerically,
can be derived analytically. The same constant enters in higher-order corrections to the expected-maximum asymptotics. As
a byproduct, we also prove a new universal result in the context of the flux problem which is an analogue of the Sparre Andersen

The gedanken experiment of the clock paradox is solved exactly using the general relativistic equations for a static homogeneous gravitational
field. We demonstrate that the general and special relativistic clock paradox solutions are identical and in particular that
they are identical for finite acceleration. Practical expressions are obtained for proper time and coordinate time by using the destination distance as
the key observable parameter. This solution provides a formal demonstration of the identity between the special and general
relativistic clock paradox with finite acceleration and where proper time is assumed to be the same in both formalisms. By
solving the equations of motion for a freely falling clock in a static homogeneous field elapsed times are calculated for
realistic journeys to the stars.

Heterogeneous Fenton or Fenton-like reagents consist of a mixture of an iron-containing solid matrix and a liquid medium with H2O2. The Fenton system is based on the reaction between Fe2?+? and H2O2 to produce highly reactive intermediate hydroxyl radicals (???OH), which are able to oxidize organic contaminants, whereas the Fenton-like reaction is based on the reaction between Fe3?+? and H2O2. These heterogeneous systems offer several advantages over their homogeneous counterparts, such as no sludge formation, operation at near-neutral pH and the possibility of recycling the iron promoter. Some doping transition cations in the iron oxide structure are believed to enhance the catalytic efficiency for the oxidation of organic substrates in water. In this work, goethites synthesized in presence of niobium served as precursors for the preparation of magnetites (niobian magnetites) via chemical reduction with hydrogen at 400°C. These materials were used as Fenton-like catalysts. Both groups of (Nb, Fe)-oxide samples were characterized by 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy at 298 K. The results show that increasing niobium contents raise the catalytic potential for decomposition of methylene blue, which was, in this work, used as a model molecule for organic substrates in water. 相似文献

The rheology of granular materials near an interface is investigated through proton magnetic resonance imaging. A new cylinder shear apparatus has been inserted in the magnetic resonance imaging device, which allows the control of the radial confining pressure exerted by the outer wall on the grains and the measurement of the torque on the inner shearing cylinder. A multi-layer velocimetry sequence has been developed for the simultaneous measurement of velocity profiles in different sample zones, while the measurement of the solid fraction profile is based on static imaging of the sample. This study describes the influence of the roughness of the shearing interface and of the transverse confining walls on the granular interface rheology. 相似文献
