Patterned growth of large oriented organic semiconductor single crystals on self-assembled monolayer templates

This work demonstrates a method for inducing site-specific nucleation and subsequent growth of large oriented organic semiconductor single crystals using micropatterned self-assembled monolayers (SAMs). We demonstrate growth of oriented, patterned, and large organic semiconductor single crystals for potential use in organic electronic devices. The control over multiple parameters in a single system has not yet been reported. The ability to control various aspects of crystal growth in one system provides a powerful technique for the bottom-up fabrication of organic single-crystal semiconductor devices.     

An abstract approach to Bohr's phenomenon

In 1914 Bohr discovered that there exists such that if a power series converges in the unit disk and its sum has modulus less than , then for the sum of absolute values of its terms is again less than . Recently analogous results were obtained for functions of several variables. Our aim here is to present an abstract approach to the problem and show that Bohr's phenomenon occurs under very general conditions.

     

Patterned colloidal deposition controlled by electrostatic and capillary forces

We use substrates chemically micropatterned with anionic and cationic regions to govern the deposition of charged colloidal particles. The direct observation of the colloidal assembly suggests that this process includes two steps: an initial patterned attachment of colloids to the substrate and an additional ordering of the structure upon drying. The driving forces of the process, i.e. , screened electrostatic and lateral capillary interactions, are discussed. This approach makes it possible to fabricate complex, high-resolution two-dimensional arrays of colloidal particles.     

Synthesis and thermochromatographic investigation of volatile hexafluoroacetyl-acetonate complexes of mendelevium and fermium

Volatile hexafluoroacetylacetonates of mendelevium and daughter fermium were first obtained by the interaction of hexafluoroacetylacetone with²⁵⁶Md radionuclide formed in the cyclotron under on-line conditions as well as by the heterophase exchange of ligands. Thermochromatographic behaviour of the complexes synthesized was studied in a flow of a carrier-gas saturated with ligand vapours.
