On two theorems for flat,affine group schemes over a discrete valuation ring

We include short and elementary proofs of two theorems that characterize reductive group schemes over a discrete valuation ring, in a slightly more general context.     

Pushing Squares Around

We study dynamic self-reconfiguration of modular metamorphic systems. We guarantee the feasibility of motion planning in a rectangular model consisting of square modules that are allowed to slide along or rotate about one another. That is, we show that any two connected configurations of the same number of modules can be transformed into each other by a sequence of moves so that all intermediate configurations are connected. This settles a conjecture formulated in [6].     

Baer orderings with noninvariant valuation ring

We construct division algebras with involution containing a Baer ordering with noninvariant order ring. This gives a negative answer to a question of Holland, whether the order ring is always invariant under inner automorphisms. Furthermore, we give examples of any index. Previously, the only known examples of division algebras containing Baer orderings were of index 2 ⁿ or of indexp forp a prime of the form 4m + 3. Click chemistry in materials synthesis. III. Metal‐adhesive polymers from Cu(I)‐catalyzed azide–alkyne cycloaddition

1,2,3‐Triazole‐based polymers generated from the Cu(I)‐catalyzed cycloaddition between multivalent azides and acetylenes are effective adhesive materials for metal surfaces. The adhesive capacities of candidate mixtures of azide and alkyne components were measured by a modified peel test, using a customized adhesive tester. A particularly effective tetravalent alkyne and trivalent azide combination was identified, giving exceptional strength that matches or exceeds the best commercial formulations. The addition of Cu catalyst was found to be important for the synthesis of stronger adhesive polymers when cured at room temperature. Heating also accelerated curing rates, but the maximum adhesive strengths achieved at both room temperature and high temperature were the same, suggesting that crosslinking reaches the same advanced point in all cases. Polytriazoles also form adhesives to aluminum, but copper is bound more effectively, presumably because active Cu(I) ions may be leached from the surface to promote crosslinking and adhesion. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The uniqueness of solutions of perturbed backward stochastic differential equations

We prove a result on the preservation of the pathwise uniqueness property for the adapted solution to backward stochastic differential equation under perturbations.     

Ground state parameters of BiH3 from infrared and millimeter-wave spectra: ground state and equilibrium structures

Unstable, short-lived BiH₃ has been synthesized and investigated by rotational spectroscopy in the range 158 (J=1-0) to 1280 GHz (J=8-7). Quadrupole and spin-rotation hyperfine structures (eQq=584.676(96) MHz), and the A₁A₂ splitting of the K=3 ground state level, have been resolved. By merging the pure rotational data with 1764 ground state combination differences obtained from the analysis of high resolution Fourier transform infrared spectra of the ν₁-ν₄ bands [J. Mol. Spectrosc. (2004) (in press)] spanning J and K values up to 16 and 14, respectively, with 0?ΔK?9, the ground state rotational and centrifugal distortion constants up to octic and sextic terms for reductions A and B, respectively, have been determined. Of the reductions of the ground state rovibrational Hamiltonian, reduction B including ε rather than h₃ as off-diagonal element is clearly favored. An experimental r₀ structure of the very-near spherical oblate symmetric top BiH₃, r(BiH)=178.82 pm and α(HBiH)=90.320°, has been deduced from the rotational constants B₀=2.64160172(18) and C₀=2.6010403(31) cm⁻¹. The derived experimental r_e structure, r_e(BiH)=177.834(50) pm and α_e(HBiH)=90.321(10)°, was determined. This is in excellent agreement with the most recent ab initio structure, r_e(BiH)=177.84 pm, and α_e(HBiH)=90.12°.
