A rapid, selective and sensitive reversed-phase liquid chromatographic (LC) method was developed for the determination of piribedil in human serum, urine and pharmaceutical dosage form. LC analysis was carried out using reversed-phase isocratic elution with a C18 column and a mobile phase of 0.01 M phosphate buffer-acetonitrile (50:50, v/v). The chromatograms showed good resolution and sensitivity with no interference of human serum and urine. Piribedil concentrations were determined using diode array detection at 240 nm. Sildenafil citrate was used as internal standard. The limit of quantification (LOQ) and limit of detection (LOD) concentrations were 107.2 and 321.6 pg mL?1, 96.6 and 290.4 pg mL?1, 161.7 and 53.9 pg mL?1 for urine, serum and pharmaceutical dosage forms, respectively. The method was validated for its linearity, precision and accuracy and applied to the tablets, urine and human serum. A series of dye flow visualization experiments are carried out in water to study the visible flow features in the near field of turbulent jets and to assess their usefulness in estimating the discharge rate of a turbulent jet in a homogeneous medium. The jet Reynolds numbers are 0.3–2.2 × 105. The large eddies at the core of the flow and the smaller eddies at the edge show disparate, independent length scales. Their convection speeds are more than an order of magnitude apart. Discharge rate estimates based on large-scale core features are useful. However, their reliability depends on a priori knowledge of the state of the bulk flow upstream of the discharge location. In this paper, a novel method for extracting the values of the coefficients of time-varying ARMA processes is proposed. The approach discussed assumes solely that the orders of the numerator and the denominator polynomials are known. The algorithm is demonstrated to be stable in the sense of Lyapunov, furthermore, it is shown in the paper that the evolution in the parameter space takes place in a finite volume. The proposed method is cost effective and is based on the variable structure systems theory, which is well known with its robustness to uncertainties. In the simulation example, the coefficients of a second order ARMA process is extracted by the use of the algorithm presented.
