Instrumental neutron activation analysis was used for determination of vanadium mass fraction in crystals of incipient ferroelectric strontium titanate and ferroelectric barium titanate. In order to improve vanadium limit of detection, discriminating gamma-ray spectrometry was used by inserting an absorption filter between the samples and an HPGe detector. The use of the absorption lead filter 6-mm thick yielded improvement of the vanadium limit of detection by a factor of two. The vanadium mass fraction determined in a quality control sample, which was NIST standard reference material SRM 1648 Urban Particulate Matter, was in close agreement with the certified value.

Coupling nucleic acid processing enzymes to nanoscale pores allows controlled movement of individual DNA or RNA strands that is reported as an ionic current/time series. Hundreds of individual enzyme complexes can be examined in single-file order at high bandwidth and spatial resolution. The bacteriophage phi29 DNA polymerase (phi29 DNAP) is an attractive candidate for this technology, due to its remarkable processivity and high affinity for DNA substrates. Here we show that phi29 DNAP-DNA complexes are stable when captured in an electric field across the α-hemolysin nanopore. DNA substrates were activated for replication at the nanopore orifice by exploiting the 3'-5' exonuclease activity of wild-type phi29 DNAP to excise a 3'-H terminal residue, yielding a primer strand 3'-OH. In the presence of deoxynucleoside triphosphates, DNA synthesis was initiated, allowing real-time detection of numerous sequential nucleotide additions that was limited only by DNA template length. Translocation of phi29 DNAP along DNA substrates was observed in real time at ?ngstrom-scale precision as the template strand was drawn through the nanopore lumen during replication. 相似文献

A method for the fast determination of yohimbine, a potent adrenoreceptor antagonist used for the treatment of sexual dysfunctions,
is proposed in this article. MEKC under basic and acidic conditions (sodium borate, pH 9.5 and sodium phosphate, pH 2.5) with
SDS was developed. The effect of the experimental parameters, e.g. pH, SDS concentration and injection time, on yohimbine
migration was also studied. Both methods were validated in terms of linearity, limits of detection and quantification, accuracy,
and precision using caffeine as an internal standard. The application for the determination of yohimbine in hand-made medicaments
is also investigated in this study.

The theory of Gegenbauer (ultraspherical) polynomial approximation has received considerable attention in recent decades. In particular, the Gegenbauer polynomials have been applied extensively in the resolution of the Gibbs phenomenon, construction of numerical quadratures, solution of ordinary and partial differential equations, integral and integro-differential equations, optimal control problems, etc. To achieve better solution approximations, some methods presented in the literature apply the Gegenbauer operational matrix of integration for approximating the integral operations, and recast many of the aforementioned problems into unconstrained/constrained optimization problems. The Gegenbauer parameter α associated with the Gegenbauer polynomials is then added as an extra unknown variable to be optimized in the resulting optimization problem as an attempt to optimize its value rather than choosing a random value. This issue is addressed in this article as we prove theoretically that it is invalid. In particular, we provide a solid mathematical proof demonstrating that optimizing the Gegenbauer operational matrix of integration for the solution of various mathematical problems by recasting them into equivalent optimization problems with α added as an extra optimization variable violates the discrete Gegenbauer orthonormality relation, and may in turn produce false solution approximations. 相似文献

The partial energies and entropies of O2in perovskite-type oxides La0.6Sr0.4Co1−yFeyO3−δ(y=0, 0.1, 0.25, 0.4, 0.6) were determined as a function of nonstoichiometryδby coulometric titration of oxygen in the temperature range 650–950°C. An absolute reference value ofδwas obtained by thermogravimetry in air. The nonstoichiometry at a given oxygen pressure and temperature decreases with iron contenty. At low nonstoichiometries the oxygen chemical potential decreases withδ. The observed behavior can be interpreted by assuming random distribution of oxygen vacancies, an electronic structure with both localized donor states on Fe, and a partially filled itinerant electron band, of which the density of states at the Fermi level scales with the Co content. The energy of the Fe states is close to the energy at the Fermi level in the conduction band. The observed trends of the thermodynamic quantities can be interpreted in terms of the itinerant electron model only when the iron content is small. At high values ofδthe chemical potential of O2becomes constant, indicating partial decomposition of the perovskite phase. A sequential injection analysis (SIA) system is coupled with dynamic surface tension detection (DSTD) for the purpose of studying the interfacial properties of surface-active samples. DSTD is a novel analyzer based upon a growing drop method, utilizing a pressure sensor measurement of drop pressure. The pressure signal depends on the surface tension properties of sample solution drops that grow and detach at the end of a capillary tip. In this work, SIA was used for creating a reagent concentration gradient, and for blending the reagent gradient with a steady-state sample. The sample, consisting of either sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) or poly(ethylene glycol) at 1470 g mol−1 (PEG 1470), elutes with a steady-state concentration at the center of the sample plug. Reagents such as Brij®35, tetrabutylammonium (TBA) hydroxide and β-cyclodextrin were introduced as a concentration gradient that begins after the sample plug has reached the steady-state concentration. By blending the reagent concentration gradient with the sample plug using SIA/DSTD, the kinetic surface pressure signal of samples mixed with various reagent concentrations is observed and evaluated in a high throughput fashion. It was found that the SIA/DSTD method consumes lesser reagent and required significantly less analysis time than traditional FIA/DSTD. Four unique chemical systems were studied with regard to how surface activity is influenced, as observed through the surface tension signal: surface activity addition, surface activity reduction due to competition, surface activity enhancement due to ion-pair formation, and surface activity reduction due to bulk phase binding chemistry. 相似文献

Many objects studied in biology, medicine or material sciences create spatial formations of random shape in which we can observe mutual interactions among those objects. In order to analyse the data composed of such patterns, we use the methods of spatial statistics. Recently, extended random-disc Quermass-interaction process was studied, simulated and consequently statistically analysed using MCMC maximum likelihood method (MCMC MLE). However, this analysis brought some problems. First, it was quite time-consuming, secondly, in some special cases, the parameter estimates may undervalue the real parameter values.
