Block copolymer self-assembly and supramolecular chemistry can be combined most naturally to prepare smart polymer nanomaterials. An attractive route is based on comb-shaped supramolecules, obtained by attaching side chains to (co)polymers by physical (non-covalent) interactions. Hydrogen bonding is a key element of our approach. It combines an ease of synthesis with other important approach-specific elements, such as hierarchical self-assembly, strongly enhanced processability, swelling, and cleaving. Functional properties discussed include anisotropic proton conductivity, switching proton conductivity, electronically conducting nanowires, polarized luminance, dielectric stacks (optical reflectivity), functional membranes, and nano objects.  相似文献

Abstract— The mechanism of action of psoralen plus UVA (PUVA) and photopheresis is not entirely understood. These therapies are assumed to be immunomodulating partly by gradually decreasing leukocyte viability. We investigated whether this delayed form of cell death was due to apoptosis. Untreated and treated (PUVA exposed) leukocytes obtained from six patients with systemic sclerosis and (untreated) leukocytes from healthy control individuals were studied. Qualitative gel electrophoresis and quantitative in situ nick translation analysis of DNA fragmentation was performed. Apoptosis of the treated cells did occur (gel electrophoresis) after 24 h. At t = 0 h, immediately after exposure to PUVA, there was no evidence of DNA fragmentation in the treated cells. The percentage of treated cells undergoing apoptosis was 20–55% at t = 24 h ( in situ nick translation). The untreated leukocytes of the patients and the healthy individuals showed no distinctive rise in apoptotic cells. Apoptosis of the leukocytes after PUVA or photopheresis treatment might be a mechanism of action and might explain the therapeutic response.  相似文献

Reversible addition‐fragmentation chain‐transfer (RAFT) polymerization was used to control the alternating copolymerization of styrene and 2,3,4,5,6‐pentaflurostyrene. The RAFT polymerization yields a high degree of control over the molecular weight of the polymers and does not significantly influence the reactivity ratios of the monomers. The controlled free‐radical polymerization could be initiated using AIBN at elevated temperatures or using a redox couple (benzoyl peroxide/N,N‐dimethylaniline) at room temperature, while maintaining control over molecular weight and dispersity. Spin-orbit (SO) heavy-atom on the light-atom (SO-HALA) effect is the largest relativistic effect caused by a heavy atom on its light-atom neighbors, leading, for example, to unexpected NMR chemical shifts of 1H, 13C, and 15N nuclei. In this study, a combined experimental and theoretical evidence for the SO-HALA effect transmitted through hydrogen bond is presented. Solid-state NMR data for a series of 4-dimethylaminopyridine salts containing I, Br and Cl counter ions were obtained experimentally and by theoretical calculations. A comparison of the experimental chemical shifts with those calculated by a standard DFT methodology without the SO contribution to the chemical shifts revealed a remarkable error of the calculated proton chemical shift of a hydrogen atom that is in close contact with the iodide anion. The addition of the relativistic SO correction in the calculations significantly improves overall agreement with the experiment and confirms the propagation of the SO-HALA effect through hydrogen bonds.  相似文献

The enantioselective synthesis of α-thiocarboxylic acids by biocatalytic dynamic kinetic resolution (DKR) of nitrile precursors exploiting nitrilase enzymes is described. A panel of 35 nitrilase biocatalysts were screened and enzymes Nit27 and Nit34 were found to catalyse the DKR of racemic α-thionitriles under mild conditions, affording the corresponding carboxylic acids with high conversions and good-to-excellent ee. The ammonia produced in situ during the biocatalytic transformation favours the racemization of the nitrile enantiomers and, in turn, the DKR without the need of any external additive base.  相似文献

Poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) has reached the second largest production volume of fluoropolymers in recent years, and its popularity can be ascribed to high thermal stability and chemical inertness combined with its ferroelectric behavior. Copolymerization of vinylidene fluoride with other monomers leads to a wide variety of products with modified or improved properties. Besides commercially available fluorinated random copolymers, well‐defined block‐, graft, and alternating copolymers based on PVDF received more attention in recent years. PVDF‐containing block copolymers that may self‐assemble into well‐ordered morphologies are of particular interest, being potential precursors for functional nanostructured materials applicable in membranes and electronics. This Highlight provides an overview of the routes developed towards these materials via conventional and controlled polymerization techniques. The theory of Gegenbauer (ultraspherical) polynomial approximation has received considerable attention in recent decades. In particular, the Gegenbauer polynomials have been applied extensively in the resolution of the Gibbs phenomenon, construction of numerical quadratures, solution of ordinary and partial differential equations, integral and integro-differential equations, optimal control problems, etc. To achieve better solution approximations, some methods presented in the literature apply the Gegenbauer operational matrix of integration for approximating the integral operations, and recast many of the aforementioned problems into unconstrained/constrained optimization problems. The Gegenbauer parameter α associated with the Gegenbauer polynomials is then added as an extra unknown variable to be optimized in the resulting optimization problem as an attempt to optimize its value rather than choosing a random value. This issue is addressed in this article as we prove theoretically that it is invalid. In particular, we provide a solid mathematical proof demonstrating that optimizing the Gegenbauer operational matrix of integration for the solution of various mathematical problems by recasting them into equivalent optimization problems with α added as an extra optimization variable violates the discrete Gegenbauer orthonormality relation, and may in turn produce false solution approximations.  相似文献
