Hydrodynamic and molecular characteristics of graft copolymers of chitosan with acrylamide

The conformational properties of macromolecules of chitosan and its copolymers with acrylamide in a mixed solvent 0.33 M CH₃COOH + 0.3 M NaCl have been investigated by means of translation diffusion and viscometry. The copolymer macromolecules in a solvent suppressing polyelectrolyte effects possess a higher intracoil density (ρ_av = 0.010 g/cm³) than the chitosan macromolecules (ρ_av = 0.006 g/cm³), even though the hydrodynamic radius R _h of chitosan is smaller by a factor of ～1.5.

Poly(N-phenylenebenzimidazoles) as an alternative to classical polybenzimidazoles

A new thermally stable polybenzimidazole film has been synthesized by nucleophilic aromatic substitution, transformed into a complex with phosphoric acid and tested as a proton-conductive membrane.

Synthesis of 7,8‐Dihydrothieno[3′,2′:4,5]pyrrolo[1,2‐a]pyrazin‐5(6H)‐ones Using a Modification of Four‐Component Ugi Reaction

We describe an efficient synthesis of novel 7,8‐dihydrothieno [3′,2′:4,5]pyrrolo[1,2‐a]pyrazin‐5(6H)‐one heterocyclic structures. The target compounds were prepared by a novel modification of four‐component Ugi reaction of heterocyclic bifunctional keto acids, isonitriles, and amines. We demonstrate the usefulness and versatility of the developed approach, which is amenable to production of combinatorial libraries.     

A simple nitration of electrophilic alkenes with tetranitromethane in the presence of triethylamine. Synthesis of functionalized β-nitroalkenes

A convenient method for the preparation of functionalized β-nitroalkenes based on the nitration of α,α-di- and α,α,β-trisubstituted unsaturated aldehydes, ketones and esters with tetranitromethane in the presence of triethylamine is described. Series of substituted β-nitroalcohols and β-nitroalkenes are obtained in good yields under mild conditions.
