Forward-angle yields of 2≤Z≤11 isotopes in the reaction of 18O(35A MeV) with 9Be

A systematic investigation of the forward-angle inclusive yields of 2≤Z≤11 isotopes produced in collisions of ¹⁸O projectile nuclei with a ⁹Be target in the Fermi energy region (35A MeV) is performed. The measurements were based on the use of the COMBAS double achromatic kinematical separator in the spectrometry mode at the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, FLNR (JINR, Dubna). The velocity, isotopic, and element distributions are presented. There is no unique mechanism that would explain the total set of results obtained in this experiment. A dominant role of low-energy reaction mechanisms is observed. The intensity of secondary beams of halolike nuclei ¹¹Li, ¹²Be, and ¹⁴Be is determined.     

Quantum discreteness effects and flicker fluctuations in tunneling conductivity

An analysis of events in the tunneling junction shows that the interaction of one-electron processes in a many-electron system may be a source of scale-invariant low-frequency fluctuations of conductivity (the interaction consists in that the quantum probability of an electron transition depends on fast random changes in the environment in the course of the transition, including the changes caused by analogous transitions). The theory relates flicker fluctuations in the tunneling conductivity to the discrete character of the spectrum of electron states and explains the nonlinearity of the noise-current characteristic observed in nanocomposites.     

Chemical bonding in isolated molecules and crystals of zwitterionic pentacoordinate silicon chelates

The electronic structures of a number of zwitterionic pentacoordinate silicon chelates were investigated using the results of X-ray diffraction studies and quantum-chemical calculatoins by the MPW1PW91/6-311G(d) method. The topological analysis of the electron density distribution function and the study in the framework of the natural bond orbital partitioning scheme showed that the character of chemical bonding in the axial fragments of the molecules under consideration changes from dative to three-center, four-electron as the silicon atom assumes a trigonal-bipyramidal coordination.     

Quantum frequency standards based on the soliton state of a Bose-Einstein condensate

A method for stabilizing frequency based on using the soliton state of the Bose-Einstein condensate of alkali metal atoms as an atomic source was suggested. The critical total number of lithium condensate particles at which the existence of a quasi-one-dimensional soliton in the condensate was possible and the lifetime of such a soliton were estimated. The attainable accuracy of measuring reference transition frequencies in the suggested standard was shown to be substantially higher than with the known quantum frequency standards.

Development of a Simulation Model for Solid Objects Suspended in a Fluctuating Fluid

We introduce a new scheme for the future application of Real-coded Lattice Gas (RLG) to the numerical simulation of suspended solid objects in a fluctuating fluid environment. The reproduction of Brownian motion for a single solid object is verified through the Gaussian distribution of its displacements. The effectiveness of the solid–solid interaction model is also confirmed in an N-body simulation.     

Destruction of a solid film under the action of ultrashort laser pulse

Molecular-dynamics (MD) simulation of the destruction of a crystal film heated by a femtosecond laser pulse was carried out. Heating is assumed to be instantaneous, because there is no time for the material to be displaced during the pulse. Film destruction is caused by the interaction of unloading waves. It can be considered as a model of a more complex process of splitting out of a thin surface layer from a massive target in the case where the layer remains solid after heating. It was found that the crystal order is broken due to the stretching strains and to the strong anisotropy of residual stress, resulting in a bipartition of the layer separating from the target. The lattice stretching and the formation of anisotropic stresses are due to the expansion of a heated lattice.     

Explicit Formulas for Generalized Action–Angle Variables in a Neighborhood of an Isotropic Torus and Their Application

Different versions of the Darboux–Weinstein theorem guarantee the existence of action–angle-type variables and the harmonic-oscillator variables in a neighborhood of isotropic tori in the phase space. The procedure for constructing these variables is reduced to solving a rather complicated system of partial differential equations. We show that this system can be integrated in quadratures, which permits reducing the problem of constructing these variables to solving a system of quadratic equations. We discuss several applications of this purely geometric fact in problems of classical and quantum mechanics.     

Indeterminacy Criteria for the Stieltjes Matrix Moment Problem

In this paper, we obtain criteria for the indeterminacy of the Stieltjes matrix moment problem. We obtain explicit formulas for Stieltjes parameters and study the multiplicative structure of the resolvent matrix. In the indeterminate case, we study the analytic properties of the resolvent matrix of the moment problem. We describe the set of all matrix functions associated with the indeterminate Stieltjes moment problem in terms of linear fractional transformations over Stieltjes pairs.
