Equivalence Relation between Initial Values and Solutions for Evolution p-Laplacian Equation in Unbounded Space

In this paper,an equivalence relation between the ω-limit set of initial values and the ω-limit set of solutions is established for the Cauchy problem of evolution p-Laplacian equation in the unbounded space Yσ(RN).To overcome the difficulties caused by the nonlinearity of the equation and the unbounded solutions,we establish the propagation estimate and the growth estimate for the solutions.It will be demonstrated that the equivalence relation can be used to study the asymptotic behavior of solutions.

On a phase-change problem arising from inductive heating

In this paper we study a phase-change problem arising from induction heating. The mathematical model consists of time-harmonic Maxwell’s system in a quasi-stationary field coupled with nonlinear heat conduction. The enthalpy form is used to characterize the phase-change in the material. It is shown that the problem has a global solution. Moreover, it is shown that the solution is unique and regular in one-space dimension even with an unbounded resistivity. This work is supported in part by a NSF grant: DMS-0102261

Generation and characterization of millimeter-scale plasmas for the research of laser plasma interactions on Shenguang-III prototype

In order to produce millimeter-scale plasmas for the research of laser-plasma interactions （LPIs）, gasbag target is designed and tested on Shenguang-III prototype laser facility. The x-ray pinhole images show that millimeter-scale plasmas are produced with the gasbag. The electron temperature inferred from the stimulated Raman scattering （SRS） spectrum is about 1.6 keV. The SRS spectrum also indicates that the electron density has a fiat region within the duration of 200 ps. The obvious differences between the results of the gasbag and that of the void half hohlraum show the feasibility of the gasbag target in creating millimeter-scale plasmas. The LPIs in these millimeter-scale plasmas may partially mimic those in the ignition condition because the duration of the existence of a flat plasma density is much larger than the growth time of the two main instabilities, i.e., SRS and stimulated Brillouin scattering （SBS）. So we make the conclusion that the gasbag target can be used to research the large-scale LPIs.

A Multiobjective Hybrid Metaheuristic Approach for GIS-based Spatial Zoning Model

This paper presents a multiobjective hybrid metaheuristic approach for an intelligent spatial zoning model in order to draw territory line for geographical or spatial zone for the purpose of space control. The model employs a Geographic Information System (GIS) and uses multiobjective combinatorial optimization techniques as its components. The proposed hybrid metaheuristic consists of the symbiosis between tabu search and scatter search method and it is used heuristically to generate non-dominated alternatives. The approach works with a set of current solution, which through manipulation of weights are optimized towards the non-dominated frontier while at the same time, seek to disperse over the frontier by a strategic oscillation concept. The general procedure and its algorithms are given as well as its implementation in the GIS environment. The computation has resulted in tremendous improvements in spatial zoning.
